What is the actual point of them anymore? I sent a small parcel 1st class 2 weeks ago and it's still not arrived...

My daughters Xmas present (bubble tea kit) has been sat at my local RM delivery office since last Wednesday. They are back on strike tomorrow and Thursday so I have no idea if I'll even get it this week. But the did deliver items sent after that today, so I do not understand what's going on.. Can't see how they can recover unfortunately. I am totally with them but everyone seems to be using other couriers now.

MaryToft · 13/12/2022 17:45

Our local Evri courier quit because they said the company were so awful to work for. Doesn't seem that they've found a replacement driver as my package has been sat at the depot since the third.

StressedToTheMaxxx · 13/12/2022 16:46

He chapped your door, he was clearly looking to see if you were in.... to deliver your parcel.

they get about 50p a parcel so he can’t wait long between drops or he won’t cover his fuel let alone earn anything

Our brilliant one quit after asking for more money to cover the fuel increase earlier in the year.
they said no.

I’m waiting for my degree cert while they all drink coffee at the end of the high street and complain about their income. I would feel sorry for them, but the rise they have been offered is more than I have had in over ten years in social care, and our wages are frozen again.

Icanseeclearlynow12 · 13/12/2022 17:54

We’ve had no post or letters for around 3 weeks now. Waiting on birthday cards for my daughter, letters due from various services for my son plus an important prescription which cannot be tracked for some reason. Have received no Christmas cards either. I’m guessing a big pile of post will arrive in one go at some point!

ILoveeCakes · 13/12/2022 17:27

Why are you unloading all this onto me?

You typed the comment(s) I was quoting to illustrate the point I made, I gave an alternative reason for his 'BS comment'.

He probably was looking to see if anyone was coming, but also felt he needed to make a 'BS excuse' as to what he was doing because of the reasons I went on to say.

I used the term 'we' as in meaning society in general, if you choose to take all that on your shoulders then that's down to you, stop trying to feel all picked on because I made an observation in response to something you typed.
If you don't agree with it then say so, but don't make out like it's a personal attack because it's not.

Go and play the "White Knight" elsewhere - riding to the rescue of the low paid. I'm not interested.

Perhaps we should all be entitled refunds. I paid 1st class service and I haven't got that.

Funny they still take your money.

Funny that you have expected the same service despite the industrial action began in August

WorriedandScared93 · 13/12/2022 12:34

Worse time of year as well! I've sent Xmas cards to family and they think I'm snubbing them off as they haven't arrived yet ... is this all down to the strikes?

Yes

Plus volumes are often heavy at this time of year

Plaidparty · 13/12/2022 18:18

People seem to fail to understand that strikes are meant to cause disruption.

Don’t blame your postie for wanting a pay increase or refusing to accept new terms and conditions that will put them in line with evri working conditions. Blame Royal Mail management for this, putting profits above people.

Nogbreaks · 13/12/2022 18:20

They’re committing suicide. There are other delivery services cheaper and far more reliable, and they’re encouraging ordinary people to seek those out…

As I'm one of the low paid that you think I'm riding to the rescue of, I'm entitled to say what I think on an open forum, I'm one of the people living with the reality of it and as strikes and lack of recruitment and retention are showing in many of these industries, largely imo because of the way they're treated by who they work for and the wider public, you can be as disinterested as you want while you whine about how poor service is, it isn't going to change unless the culture of treating workers with such contempt does.
Dismissing me won't change that 🤷🏼‍♀️

SnackSizeRaisin · 13/12/2022 18:24

YourMommaWasASnowblower · 13/12/2022 12:38

We have received nothing either and waiting on cards and 2 parcels. We haven’t even received general letters that are due now. We have had nothing since the beginning of December. They were useless before the strikes they are way beyond useless now. They don’t deserve the pay rises they are demanding. It’s a completely unreliable service.

Have you stopped to think about why the service is poor? Or why the CEO gets paid millions? Individual postmen are not responsible for bad management which prioritises profit at the expense of both workers and customers

Yeah and they've built up to this. Not like there was no warning.

OhmygodDont · 13/12/2022 18:26

Thing is I’m not really being disrupted because I’ve just changed who I used. I might be missing a few cards a guess and maybe some spam Mail that they now seem to deliver but I’ve just moved everything I order or send away from Royal Mail.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 13/12/2022 18:27

2 recent orders have arrived quite quickly courtesy of RM - maybe a couple of days longer than usual, but no big deal. And I’m reasonably confident that an item ordered last night will arrive before I need it on the evening of the 20th - but that’s partly because the company in question is reliably quick at dispatching goods.

So they are meant to just accept the loss of contractual employee benefits and change their working hours including working Sundays, for worse pay, just because people working for some other company have worse conditions? It's not a race to the bottom.
Do some research into what they are actually striking about and think about how you would feel if your employer tried to do similar. Would you just accept because a competitor company has worse conditions?

This.

Maybe if everyone stood up for what they believed in and for workers rights, we wouldn’t be in a race to the bottom.

SpinningFloppa · 13/12/2022 18:35

I need a new bank card as mine is damaged doubt I will get it before Xmas 😡

OhmygodDont · 13/12/2022 18:35

It’s not a race to the bottom to expect to get the service you pay for though is it. Royal Mail while striking are not providing the service they are charging for so people will not use them.

I saw a meme unsure how true, that made more sense. In some country or whatever bus drivers went on strike but they still worked they just didn’t charge the customer so the company itself took the direct hit. Not those who pay to use the service. It’s not us the customer causing the problem
its the managers/owners piss off the customer and they just leave.

SomethingOriginal2 · 13/12/2022 18:37

Just tried to book a redelivery of a parcel and I can get it in another week. The sorting office is, obviously, closed. Absolute shit show. But so are evri. Does anyone know a decent one?

SnackSizeRaisin · 13/12/2022 18:39

ILoveeCakes · 13/12/2022 16:20

If they do end up working for one of the parcel firms, they will realise how good they had it.

I bet the parcel drivers have limited sympathy for them.

They do realise how good they have it. That's exactly why they want to keep their current conditions. Did you think they were going on strike just for a laugh?

MermaidEyes · 13/12/2022 18:42

I've had a Christmas card from abroad but none that have been posted in this country. Some parcels arriving within a couple of days, some taking 2 weeks....The other day postie turned up twice with two huge lots of post which had probably been sat around somewhere!

AppleDumplingWithCustard · 13/12/2022 18:46

Thecrackineverything · 13/12/2022 12:33

We are not receiving any parcels at all. Evri is apparently no longer delivering, which is tricky seeing as every retailer in the country appears to be using them.

I had an Evri delivery today.
