What is the actual point of them anymore? I sent a small parcel 1st class 2 weeks ago and it's still not arrived...

Email servers go down sometimes or make mysterious choices about what goes to spam. Peoples devices break. Letters used to be a reliable way of ensuring that information was delivered.

And with all the extra security online now, it gets more and more difficult to access accounts.

There must already be an option on the system for "communication by braille" so just add one for "communication by letter" for people that require it, and everyone else just gets a text and an email. Far quicker and cheaper than sending out countless thousands of letters which can get lost, stolen, delayed due to strikes etc.

You're just not getting the point that we need a letters service to handle the minority of patients who need it (by the way, my GP does use text). But to judge by your postings you'd happily "modernise" it out of existence.

Tbf most people with visual impairments have embraced technologies that make printed material more accessible to them (magnifiers, readers etc).

The world moves on. If you chose not to move on with it, or can't move on with it, then life does get more difficult.

And what about those who can't? As I said in an earlier post DM wasn't able to, and she's not the only one. Should those people just forgo medical treatment? Whatever some people think, there is still a place for letters.

zingally · 19/12/2022 12:44

I sent a first class christmas card to my mum 9 days ago, and she still hasn't received it.
I've only received 3 cards through the post myself. Normally by this point in the month I'd have 15-20.

PeonyRose80 · 19/12/2022 13:03

I sent a parcel today special delivery- I wonder if it will get there before Thu? I wrongfully assumed it would but after posting remembered more strikes this week for RM

Lovesnowforever · 19/12/2022 16:24

It’s absolutely shit show.
I sell bits on EBay, my own stuff and one of my parcel I sent on 30th Nov hasn’t arrived yet.
Obviously buyer opened a dispute an item not received and wants refund immediately.
The tracking says they haven’t attempted to deliver yet .
It was £25 item, so I can’t really afford to lose the money as out of job.

Only today I received my own parcel sent to me on 29 of Nov by 1st class by well known company. Wtaf..

Sadly I'd be doubt it. My letter was special delivery 2 weeks ago. And to my awareness they strike again on 23rd Nd 24th

OhmygodDont · 19/12/2022 16:53

Letters for those who need it can still be issued but the majority could be emails/texts.

We don’t need a letter delivery 6 days a week. We could cut it down to mon/weds/fri if they would actually deliver the post haha.

ChecoPerez · 19/12/2022 17:40

No mail again today for us - despite me waiting for many parcels! Another neighbour asked in the estate Facebook page and not one person (in a large estate of over 100+ houses) got mail.

kernowpicklepie · 19/12/2022 19:39

This week will be 4 weeks since I received any letters. It's ridiculous!

ShakeYourFeathers · 19/12/2022 20:12

I two posted parcels on Saturday 10/12. Going to similar places in England from another part of England. One was second class (Christmas present) one was first class (birthday present for last Friday )the second class parcel arrived the following Tuesday (13/12) the first class parcel arrived today!!!

blebbleb · 20/12/2022 18:40

Finally got some post today for the first time in a couple of weeks!

ChecoPerez · 20/12/2022 19:09

Almost fell off my chair at work today when I saw on the ring app notification that RM not only delivered once, but TWICE today...!!!

Still waiting on a few things ordered in Black Friday though...

Haruka · 21/12/2022 16:36

Well, my order has arrived and the only one left is one delivered by Yuan Express, which delivers via RM in the UK and which has been "lost" since the end of November.

I got a few bits of mail through today. A job offer sent out at the beginning of the month... I phoned them straight away but they're closed now and by the time I'll be able to ring in again it will have been a month since the offer. Thanks RM for that...

A letter delivered to me when the actual recipient lives two boroughs away... I dropped that one off today in person (their post code AND address were fine, so why on Earth it was delivered to me - not even close!)

Two urgent letters for the previous occupier. Not my concern.

So, only 1 item of post that should have arrived two weeks ago latest, and 1 blatanly posted to the wrong address. One Christmas gift still missing.

I will avoid RM as much as I can now. Sod letters, I will send every document via scan and email, just because. I wonder whether anyone got a Christmas card meant for me... 🙄

angela99999 · 21/12/2022 21:25

I had a parcel via Royal Mail which was only ordered yesterday, 48 hour delivery but here in less than 24.
I'd rather have my letters and cards, hardly any of which have arrived. Weirdly I seem to be receiving things posted very recently but not the order ones.

Willowswood · 21/12/2022 21:29

I've started getting everything I need on Amazon, they aren't on strike and as I pay for Prime, I get everything I need next day.

Luckily I haven't needed to send any parcels, if I did I would just explain to the recipient it's not possible, or use Amazon and get it sent to their address via Amazon Prime.

Nat6999 · 21/12/2022 21:31

DPD are limiting the number of parcels per customer, I placed an order 12 days ago, paid for priority delivery & the company I ordered on had to refund the delivery charges as they couldn't get DPD to take the order, it took a week to get to me.

Yeah Amazon treat their staff like shit, avoid tax and are an awful company,

Well done, you must be super proud of yourself!

Yes, of course she should be proud of herself for using a rare business that actually hardly ever lets you down and not wasting her time with others who are unreliable and shit.

Oysterbabe · 22/12/2022 07:56

I've been contacted by the company I bought my snails from. He's having to resend all recent orders with a different carrier and won't be going back to Royal Mail. I imagine many businesses will do the same.

Oh no are the snails dead?

Oysterbabe · 22/12/2022 07:59

They haven't arrived yet! I imagine so, they need food.

Oh that's so sad! Poor snailys 🐌

That will be sad if they do turn up.

PeonyRose80 · 22/12/2022 08:05

Well goodish news is parcel I sent special delivery on Monday morning made it to the recipient in 48hrs which is better than I expected.

ChecoPerez · 22/12/2022 09:03

I sent various parcels off on Friday 24hr. 4 of them all delivered fine no later than Tuesday, but one of them still sitting at the recipients main Warrington depot and has been since Sunday. Looks like it's not moving today either so someone not receiving a Christmas present :(
