What is the actual point of them anymore? I sent a small parcel 1st class 2 weeks ago and it's still not arrived...

Business post is still getting through as there must be contracts in place. So you get retailer catalogues but not a birthday card from your mum. What a lovely world.

Seems a really dangerous game as Royal Mail has become increasingly redundant over the last 10 years and being totally hopeless just accelerates that.

I imagine Evri are straining to pick up all the additional parcels.

Not ALL business post that is quite random too and generally down to luck when it hits the sorting office after being collected. We are a reasonably large user of Royal Mail as many of our deliveries are small, letterbox sized and not only is the price reasonable it is more environmentally friendly and easier for the recipient than couriers who want you to be in so they can deliver. Plus couriers have always been shit in December so add in the excess Royal Mail deliveries and some snow and there is little chance.
We have multiple sacks per day collected, recently some have made it into the system, others .. well you guess is as good as mine but I assume they are sitting in a yard somewhere getting cold and wet.
I am scheduled to receive 5 orders today, so far I have seen 1 DPD driver and UPS have been down the street. That is it, no post, no EVRI, no Amazon.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/12/2022 15:40

I've had to rearrange a blood test as the form hasn't arrived and they can't do it without the form. But I still support the posties on this one.

Lovesnowforever · 13/12/2022 15:45

@PissedOffNeighbour22 yep, absolutely nightmare.
I actually have to pay£16 admin fee as the buyer opened chargeback and I can’t provide the delivery proof even it was delivered a week ago and the stupid RoyalMail did not scanned it! It’s a joke!
and on the top of my other parcels I posted most of them have no delivery scanned either so when I track it it still says pending or in progress even I already received feedbacks from the buyers.
Any if these buyers could easily claim and open : Items not received as RM doesn’t scan upon delivery! Absolutely mess…

Evri person brought a small parcel today. As I got to the door, he was on his tiptoes nebbing through the windows at the top of the door.

Unprompted, he made up something about stretching as he'd been working so hard.

I wouldn't have thought anything of it, except that he made that BS comment. Now I wonder if he was either being nosy or casing the joint. It's quite a nice house, you see. Could be either. Or maybe driving a van does do your legs in?

The insane undercurrent of snobbery here is totally, utterly batshit. Lay off the Xmas sherry and leave some for Father Christmas.

Rachelsmachel · 13/12/2022 16:18

We used to rely on RM for everything and Evri was shit. But recently Evri have stepped up and now RM haven't delivered to ours for 2 weeks.

Our entire street are in agreement that we can live without the RM now. A letter from hospital was delivered promptly by DX and it was brilliant.

Not really sure how long the RM will last. Will the posties be out of work? I used to be one in 2010 ish and the bullying was awful - the union was forced upon you.

Blergh. I guess the Posties who lose their jobs may have to become DPD and Evri drivers. Maybe.

Who knows!

(I know it's all very regional too!)

If they do end up working for one of the parcel firms, they will realise how good they had it.

I bet the parcel drivers have limited sympathy for them.

AtomicRitual · 13/12/2022 16:44

I placed an M&S order last Friday and got notified that it had been handed to Evri with a delivery date of today.

They delivered it on Sunday! No idea what's going on, but I thought I'd share a random tale of Evri actually turning up before they were expected!

AtomicRitual · 13/12/2022 16:46

Oh, and apparently with Royal Mail/Post Office, if you send off old stamps that are going out of circulation, they send you new first class stamps.

Which is great, but when my colleague sent off about 50 stamps, of which 30 were penny stamps, he was mighty surprised to be given 50 first class stamps in return!

They're literally giving money away at the moment. Their next financial statements will likely make for dire reading...

He chapped your door, he was clearly looking to see if you were in.... to deliver your parcel.

Maverickess · 13/12/2022 16:50

ILoveeCakes · 13/12/2022 13:14

I'm sure that's it. It was his BS story about stretching that threw me a little.

Maybe because he's well aware of the low esteem he's held in by just about everyone for doing the job he does?

Anyone in low paid, customer facing and sadly some essential roles have been told for the last 10 years how shit they are because they're 'unskilled' and don't earn much and how they should do better, or how they should just accept it because they chose a 'vocation' and are in the wrong job if they don't, to justify paying them a pittance and treating them like a necessary evil rather than being the people that actually get the work done and ensure the business or service is able to deliver what they're supposed to.

We idolise and hold up those who created these conditions as the results of someone else's 'hard work', while denigrating those who do the actual work.

If they're so low value, why is the country falling apart when they withdraw such low value service?

StressedToTheMaxxx · 13/12/2022 16:50

RM are a shitshow. I literally stood watching the post come through the door along with a "sorry you were out" card. He hadn't knocked at all. By the time I unlocked the door and opened it, the postie had scarpered down the stairs. Luckily I managed to catch him out the back window and he stuttered an excuse before returning with my parcel. They know that parcels at this time of year are likely christmas presents ans my collection office is difficult to get to. They are looking for piblic support eith their strikes, lerhaps they should revise rhe service that they are giving.

OhmygodDont · 13/12/2022 16:51

Haven’t had post for ages. All my parcel have been coming evri dpd or Amazon. All I time or actually early. I won’t use Royal Mail for any parcels and I don’t send letters. Kinda shooting their own feet here with everyone pulling away from their service.

StressedToTheMaxxx · 13/12/2022 16:52

Oh, and Evri are fab in my area!

milveycrohn · 13/12/2022 16:59

I have sent some xmas cards, but am aware that they may not be received before christmas.
Next year, I will send a lot earlier, I think.
Not much I can do about it, so I dont think about it.

Lejuge28 · 13/12/2022 17:01

Never had issues with Evri being delivered in my area. I Ebay a lot and always used RM but moving to the other delivery companies as at this point RM are trustworthy anymore to get things to destination on time and Evri are cheaper & I have more trust in them.

I understand why posties are striking but ultimately If the other delivery companies step up, this could be end for RM.

Loics · 13/12/2022 17:04

We must be one of the only areas still getting deliveries in good time.

That said, delays with TM are for a good cause, so I wouldn't be too fussed with things being late.

DrMarciaFieldstone · 13/12/2022 17:06

I’ve had three Evri deliveries this week, all arrived on time, including the major snow day in the SE.

I haven’t had any post in at least 10 days, and awaiting 3 Royal Mail packages from John Lewis. I won’t use JL again. RM are not a proper courier service.

Wakeywake · 13/12/2022 17:10

Today I received one parcel that was sent on Friday - great. I'm still waiting for another one that was sent on November 22nd. God knows how they prioritise their backlog.

Daffodilis · 13/12/2022 17:12

I've had two meat hampers sent one week after the other and both were returned to sender as dpd left them too long to deliver. The farm was so apologetic and refunded me, I felt so sorry for them, loads of sales down the drain.

Scarecrowrowboat · 13/12/2022 17:17

It's bizarre and seems really region dependent I actually got a parcel on the last strike day from RM, was surprised to see the postie at the door.

ICanHideButICantRun · 13/12/2022 17:18

Thecrackineverything · 13/12/2022 12:33

We are not receiving any parcels at all. Evri is apparently no longer delivering, which is tricky seeing as every retailer in the country appears to be using them.

Are Evri really not delivering at all? I'm expecting some clothes and will be going away at the weekend - I don't know now whether to go to a physical shop - ugh - or what.

earsup · 13/12/2022 17:23

All ok here in east london..items arriving on time !

CaramelizedNuts · 13/12/2022 17:23

My post turned up today (some it ) with a postie I'd not seen before driving a rental van (it was a brand of rentals so obvious)
They are clearly trying at my end but it's still rubbish

Why are you unloading all this onto me?

PeonyRose80 · 13/12/2022 17:43

Just had 2 parcels delivered by Evri and Next gave a time slot for Evri and it was only 10 mins later, so definitely delivering still.
