To think WTF is going on with Royal Mail?

What is the actual point of them anymore? I sent a small parcel 1st class 2 weeks ago and it's still not arrived...

I’ve got loads of stuff to eBay after Christmas, I’ll be using dpd for parcels.

thelobsterquadrille · 13/12/2022 14:15

It must be very area dependent because, despite strikes, we've had no issues here.

Post has come everyday (except for strike days) and 2nd class parcels are all arriving within a week. I sent two on Friday and both arrived on Monday without any problems.

Evri, on the other hand, are a disaster and haven't delivered since September as they don't have any drivers in our area.

Catspyjamas17 · 13/12/2022 14:15

Evri actually seems fine in my area. They've never been able to do next day delivery for toffee but you do actually get your parcel, maybe a day later. I got a parcel from Denmark within a week as I picked Evri not Royal Mail as I knew it was coming into their strike window. And Amazon continue to be amazing.

RM have been rubbish behind the scenes for years, though most postal delivery people do a great job - I well remember them continuing to deliver letters parcels in the snow a few years ago whereas the couriers wouldn't drive down our road (which is not steep or hazardous). My dad was a postman for 15 years, 20 years ago now and he said the management was rubbish then.

Menopausecankissmyass · 13/12/2022 13:54

I've had 2 Evri parcels, one on Saturday, and one yesterday?

It depends whether your area has any drivers.

Mummyoflittledragon · 13/12/2022 14:17

So far, I’ve had no issues with Royal Mail parcels or Evri. Just sent a couple more yesterday so will wait and see….

TheOGCCL · 13/12/2022 14:17

Business post is still getting through as there must be contracts in place. So you get retailer catalogues but not a birthday card from your mum. What a lovely world.

Seems a really dangerous game as Royal Mail has become increasingly redundant over the last 10 years and being totally hopeless just accelerates that.

I imagine Evri are straining to pick up all the additional parcels.

theresnolimits · 13/12/2022 14:19

We haven’t had one Christmas card through the post. Not one.

A parcel I paid for tracked delivery next day via Royal Mail got ‘lost’ in the sorting office two weeks ago and is now on reorder.

This is surely the end of RM.

DizzyRascal · 13/12/2022 14:24

What is going on with Royal Mail? They got privatised and it all went to shit. Basically.

Katkinsgreyy · 13/12/2022 14:28

I had a RM delivery on Saturday which I missed as I was out.
It said it would be delivered yesterday and it never turned up. I don't know if it will be delivered again. It's my secret bloody Santa gift as well 😅

If I had realised the parcel was going to come with RM, I would have done click and collect. My silly fault.

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 13/12/2022 14:30

@Lovesnowforever I'm having this too on bloody eBay. People just won't wait (and they're defo not Xmas present type things I've sold so no excuse for being a dick about a few extra days wait).
I know I'll end up being forced to pay out, can't get a refund from Royal Mail as I don't have the original purchase receipts for the items and they'll get the item as well as the refund.

MintsPi · 13/12/2022 14:34

I find Evri fine. I like having a timeslot so I can plan around delivery. It is very frustrating with RM as you never know what time things will arrive as you aren't given a proper timeslot.

I ordered something via Etsy on 30th November which the seller posted that day via RM. I keep getting asked to give a review of the item but it hasn't arrived yet! I don't want to contact the seller as it isn't their fault and I want to support a small business. I worry about the impact this is having on small businesses as there will be people who will complain or want refunds or give bad reviews due to not getting presents in time.

DontFeatureMeOnSocialMedia · 13/12/2022 14:35

As someone who works in social services, I really hope this is the catalyst for the NHS to get its shit together and stop using snail mail for referrals. It's 2022, and secure online systems exist.

I ended up hand delivering something last week to an NHS office because I knew it wouldn't get there any time soon with the strikes but they wouldn't accept it via secure email.

Lovemusic33 · 13/12/2022 14:36

I a. Waiting for a parcel that was sent special delivery (24h), it was sent ten days ago, apparently it’s out for delivery today but it’s now 2.30pm and unlikely it will turn up.

I use Evri a lot and have never had a issue, I would chose them over Royal Mail.

Lovemusic33 · 13/12/2022 14:36

Definitely. I never got any of my scan appointment letters in time. Luckily I called the hospital to check. I have an appointment with another hospital this week and they sent me a text link to the letter which is much more reliable.

girlmom21 · 13/12/2022 14:37

I sent a parcel with Royal Mail on Thursday on their cheapest, slowest service and it got delivered yesterday. I also had a parcel sent to me on Thursday that arrived on Friday. It seems to be luck of the draw.

TheChosenTwo · 13/12/2022 14:40

My only annoyance is that dh missed 2 medical appointments he had been waiting for due to the post informing him of the date/time/location etc arriving after the appointment itself. Frustrating for them because the appointments and their time were wasted, frustrating for him because he’s now been told off and has to join the back of the queue again. Frustrating for me because he keeps banging on about it non stop 😂
lack of Christmas cards makes me happy tbh, massive waste of time and resources imo. Not to mention clutter!

longtompot · 13/12/2022 15:01

We've had some RM deliveries, even had a medication one delivered on Sunday! Evri are also delivering here (Wilts). Not had the amount of cards we usually get but that could be either people aren't sending this year or they have but just not here yet.

ethelredonagoodday · 13/12/2022 15:08

We are getting post through, and some things ordered recently have arrived, but others ordered last month, and coming from further away appear to have been lost. 😬
This is not great. Especially when some items are presents.

But I still support those striking.

Vonniee7 · 13/12/2022 15:16

Support your local postie. They are not striking for fun, it's not about pay it's about RM basically ripping up their terms and conditions and trying to turn it into Uber like service with self employed drivers, no sick pay, annualized hours and so much more. This service will be destroyed if the CEO gets away with what he's trying to do.

Sartre · 13/12/2022 15:20

Haven’t had an issue personally aside from letters arriving 2 weeks after they were dated but not expecting anything ultra important so it doesn’t really matter. Had a parcel delivered today by them, just a bogstandard second class one from world of books which was posted on Saturday. So even with the strikes, it hasn’t really affected service here. Evri have delivered as usual too.

Maerchentante · 13/12/2022 15:21

At work I do get some mail through, but completely at random, so I may get a letter from Hamburg in two days, but the one from two weeks ago still hasn't arrived.
But it is a lot less than would be normal at this time of the month.

At home, I think there was one letter for the whole building in the last two weeks. And that was for people who we've never heard of.

LouLou789 · 13/12/2022 15:22

A medical letter was sent from our hospital to our GP (a journey of 7 miles) and we were sent a copy as well, posted 24th November. Neither has arrived.

At home we are getting one postal delivery per week. I appreciate there are strikes, but not 5 days a week. They must be massively short staffed and doing postal rounds in rotation

Ilikewinter · 13/12/2022 15:26

My RM parcels have turned up albeit 3 to 4 days later than due. Evri actually delivered today when parcel was due tomorrow...bloody shock horror!
My preference now is click and collect or DPD.

One hospital I go to sends me the letter on a text link then a paper copy
The other just does a paper copy
First one is so much better, I can screenshot and email straight to my boss, never lose it and have access to it immediately
