What is the actual point of them anymore? I sent a small parcel 1st class 2 weeks ago and it's still not arrived...

Yes. All delivery drivers are desperate to see into your lovely nice house. Maybe see if you can log this with the police?

Batshit.

I didn't say "all". I wondered about a specific one who was making a particular effort to see in.

Don't make up strawman scenarios just to knock them down. At least use the actual facts of the particular situation at hand.

I just won't be relying on Royal Mail anymore. They've fucked themselves really, as who is going to use them moving forward.... out of necessity yes, but choice, no.

kernowpicklepie · 13/12/2022 13:01

Our Evri driver is brilliant, however I have a parcel that's been sat in their sorting office for nearly a week now so I'm guessing they aren't moving newer parcels round the country.
I haven't had any letters in 2 weeks but I did get a parcel last week via Royal Mail.
It's very frustrating but I guess that's the point of their strike.
Wouldn't be so bad if we had someone else to send letters with

DumpIing · 13/12/2022 13:03

It’s only going to get worse with more of an impact on parcels sent overseas.

Interesting article this morning around how UK post agencies aren’t fulfilling post-Brexit mandatory paperwork so thousands of parcels sent to Ireland have to be returned undelivered.

The same criteria will be rolled out in the other 26 EU member states next month.

It's estimated that the cost of businesses of not being able to service customers in Ireland is up to €200m, so imagine what that’s going to be like across 27 countries.

What’s Evri’s excuse?

They're shit?

MadisonAvenue · 13/12/2022 13:05

I received a parcel in the Midlands yesterday (Monday) which was sent 2nd class from Orkney on Thursday.

Yet things sent locally are taking a week or two.

Evri person brought a small parcel today. As I got to the door, he was on his tiptoes nebbing through the windows at the top of the door.

Unprompted, he made up something about stretching as he'd been working so hard.

I wouldn't have thought anything of it, except that he made that BS comment. Now I wonder if he was either being nosy or casing the joint. It's quite a nice house, you see. Could be either. Or maybe driving a van does do your legs in?

Unless you were standing right by the door and opened it within 1 second of the knock then I would guess they were just looking to see if someone was on the way. It's like knock a door run at the moment. I'm determined to make it on time to say thank you at least once but they are generally long gone by the time I get there!

Purplechicken207 · 13/12/2022 13:13

I've cut right back on Christmas cards, and just accepted what I do post later today will probably be late. We're still getting post most days (bank/car letters etc), though no Christmas cards yet so maybe it's all older things. It sucks for customers and it sucks for staff who want better conditions, and unfortunately when things are so run into the ground it's hard to ever dust them off and sort them out. No idea what the longterm answer is.

For us Evri has been great. Their driver at our old house (when it was hermes) was brilliant, even calling me (before even trying to deliver) when he knew we'd moved but something was accidentally ordered to the old address. Guy who delivers here isn't especially friendly but always polite and deliveries are on time. I guess it comes down to local areas?

I'm sure that's it. It was his BS story about stretching that threw me a little.

Next have refunded me for a dress that evri have had for 6 days as it hasn't moved
GP says they sent me a letter with results but can't give them over the phone Confused
I live 500m from the GP surgery, no sign of the letter and would have collected it but they've posted it!

MrTumblesSpottyHag · 13/12/2022 13:20

Evri are doing an even shitter job than usual because people are choosing to use them rather than RM and they can't cope. I had an Evri parcel delivered via RM the other day so it looks like they're feeding their overspill into RM anyway which is what Amazon do too when they can't keep up!

Vegetablesupreme · 13/12/2022 13:26

Posted dd 21st birthday presents (2 parcels) 5 days before her birthday via 1st Class (cost me £19!). One parcel arrived 4 days late and 2nd is nowhere to be seen!
Expecting a delivery of medication via dpd today (according to an email received yesterday) but not even received my I HR timeslot email from them let alone the actual parcel yet. It's not looking promising..... and I paid a lot extra in p&p to have a next day dpd delivery as needed the medication quickly. Am not a happy bunny☹

Summerhouse2013 · 13/12/2022 13:26

Funny with Evri how we all have different experiences.

I have had no problems at all with them. We have 2 gentlemen who deliver, I am always given a 2 hour slot via text as to when they will be delivering, and they're always on time. Polite & friendly too

If I'm not going to be in they always leave it in a 'safe place' that we've agreed on.

Florenz · 13/12/2022 13:34

I think this RM strike may kill off the mass sending of Christmas cards that some older people such as my parents still do.

Lovesnowforever · 13/12/2022 13:36

RM is absolutely snit and I don’t care of anyone defends them. I lost money on EBay as when the delivered parcels they didn’t scanned the parcel upon delivery and I had to refund money even the buyer later admitted they got the parcel.
what is the point paying for 1st class if it arrives 3 weeks later or never!!!!!

zen1 · 13/12/2022 13:40

I remember in the week running up to Christmas in the late 80s, our postie would be delivering cards 3-4 times a day (was only supposed to be two deliveries a day but they seemed to want to get everything delivered before 25th). Now I’m lucky if I see one delivery every 4 days.

LittleRen · 13/12/2022 13:42

People are slating Evri and DPD.. but RM deliver a huge amount of parcels, so many many small business are throwing things Evri / DPD's way, all those small volumes mount up and cause a huge amount of extra demand. Add in all the larger retails who are turning off RM and using Evri, makes the demand even higher. The courier companies are doing thier best. I have just had a parcel start moving again with Evri after 3 weeks, but in the mean time have had many 24 hour deliveries - it's the way they are feeding the backlogs into the daily traffic, to reduce the disruption to new parcels.

We have an online business with DPD trailors coming and going all day so I know all the ins and outs. Royal Mail and Black Friday and simply meant they have huge backlogs.

Royal Mail are destroying their business - the people striking won't have jobs to go back to.

Same. We have Royal Mail, Amazon, Evri, and DHL going in and out of our estate and the most we had was a redirection with Royal Mail but it was only a day or so that it was late.

Others on our estate have posted on Facebook having issues but I’m thinking it’s either driver or location on the estate. We’re on the intersection of two main roads that go through so many park in front of our house to do deliveries to other homes. Part of me wonders if I should just start a package holding business for the estate but I wouldn’t want someone getting irate at me if a delivery person delivers to the wrong home.

Blowyourowntrumpet · 13/12/2022 13:43

I had 34 items of mail delivered yesterday, the oldest was postmarked 15th November and was sent first class. It's a shambles

Wishawisha · 13/12/2022 13:45

DomesticShortHair · 13/12/2022 12:42

My. company has just changed a lot of it’s written communications to electronic (customer invoices, payslips etc.) because of the strikes. It’s quite an old fashioned company, so a lot of this change was probably overdue and going to happen anyway at some point. But the industrial action has been the catalyst.

It’s also now exclusively using DPD for our parcels rather than RM/Parcel force. I suspect we may not be the only company doing so. Regardless on your viewpoint of the strikes and whether they are reasonable, I can’t see how RM and the employees are going to recover well from this. The confidence/trust has been broken.

This.

So I get the strike action isn’t supposed to be for the benefit of the company but it seems so counter productive to strike for pay / conditions and destroy the company in the process - surely making more layoffs even more likely?

I used RM pretty much exclusively until I had to learn how to use Evri and lockers for selling on Vinted and it’s been a revelation. They aren’t 100% reliable but sadly more reliable than RM and I will now be sending even personal parcels - Christmas presents to friends and family etc - via the lockers and will not use Royal Mail again for anything other than letters/ cards with 1st/ 2nd class stamps as there is no viable other option (yet…). Obviously this isn’t where RM makes its money but why would companies not be reaching the exact same conclusion?

CandyflossKid · 13/12/2022 13:45

We hadn't had any post for over a week, then last Tuesday, 12 items were delivered, but haven't had anything delivered since then

Mistlewoeandwhine · 13/12/2022 13:49

I was a postie years ago. I worked in one of the biggest sorting offices in the U.K. The posties are the nicest people you could meet. If they are willing to go without pay for days at the time when a) they’d need the money most and b)theyd make the most money (they get a huge amount of overtime from the Christmas schedule) - does they not tell you something? People don’t give up much-needed money for no reason.

Since RM got privatised, it’s gone down the toilet as an employer. Stop moaning and support the posties! 🫶

Thecrackineverything · 13/12/2022 12:33

We are not receiving any parcels at all. Evri is apparently no longer delivering, which is tricky seeing as every retailer in the country appears to be using them.

I've had 2 Evri parcels, one on Saturday, and one yesterday?

PeekAtYou · 13/12/2022 14:11

Hermes rebranding to Evri seems to be the biggest waste of money ever. It is by far the most commonly moaned about courier imo. Things are so bad that they don't even have a Twitter account now.
