To think the British royal family has had its day?

I had a lot of respect for the Queen, may she rest in peace… But now she has passed away I just feel like the UK Royal family/ establishment should just be abolished.

The younger generations are not the same standard as Queen Elizabeth was. There’s so many rumours and so much scandal in recent times. And what have these people really done in order to justify leeching of UK tax payer money to fund their privileged lifestyles?…

Am I the only one who thinks the members of the Royal family should give up their royal roles and get real jobs and earn their own living like anyone else in the country?

Righto - so referring to a generalised phenomenon of power corrupting is ‘vague, meaningless, waffle’? I thought it was a fairly well known trope but ok.

I’m not particularly fussed one way or another what process determines who takes up the role of head of state but I can’t take anyone seriously if they don’t recognise that there is no fool-proof method to ensure a leader of any description is incorruptible or morally superior.

Fwiw I find repeated calls for abolishment of institutions without clear plans or straight answers to potential pitfalls pretty vague and meaningless. You haven’t thought past the initial emotive reaction that made you in favour of abolishment have you? It’s just tearing something apart with nothing to replace the functions needed for a hit of serotonin. That’s how Brexit happened.

All the stepford wife's are out in force tonight for the Carol service. Kate and Beatrice scarily thin.

@Cornettoninja

There are plans .
Do you seriously think the UK will just abolish them - much as I'd like to see it ?

The House of Lords first - check the news .
But in many cases the ' but what will be put in their place !' argument is just another royalist argument wrapped in apathy
Precisely nothing will change when the royals go because they do precisely nothing .

Excuse me? What’s your basis for implying I’m unaware of Labours proposals to abolish the HoL?

Do you go into all conversations from a starting point that only you know anything? You may as well just interact with yourself and a mirror tbh.

Novella4 · 16/12/2022 10:57

@Cornettoninja
Wtf?
You said there were no plans re institutions .
I therefore assumed you were unaware
If you were aware , what are you talking about ?

Time this outdated tradition ended. But it won’t happen soon, there are too many people still willing to tug their forelocks and support the charade.

Blossomtoes · 16/12/2022 11:21

I’ve always been intrigued by all this forelock tugging that apparently goes on because I’ve never seen anyone do it. Likewise bowing and scraping and fawning.

Novella4 · 17/12/2022 11:51

@Blossomtoes
That because they are metaphors .
HTH

Cornettoninja · 17/12/2022 13:30

What exactly are you talking about @Novella4? or is it just random raging against the machine?

Looks like she's responding to the pp. Forelock tugging is probably a metaphor now, I'd be surprised if people still did that. Obviously the literal bowing to the royals still happens.

Labour have been talking about abolishing the HOL since their inception over 1000 years ago.

Goldpaw · 02/01/2023 18:14

100!!!!

Cinderellasslipper · 02/01/2023 18:40
