To think the British royal family has had its day?

I had a lot of respect for the Queen, may she rest in peace… But now she has passed away I just feel like the UK Royal family/ establishment should just be abolished.

The younger generations are not the same standard as Queen Elizabeth was. There’s so many rumours and so much scandal in recent times. And what have these people really done in order to justify leeching of UK tax payer money to fund their privileged lifestyles?…

Am I the only one who thinks the members of the Royal family should give up their royal roles and get real jobs and earn their own living like anyone else in the country?

@Blossomtoes
I don't wish to pick on you - I think you must be having an off day

Sweden hasn't had a coronation since 1873!

I think you must mean some sort of inauguration.

🙄

Tollumi · 14/12/2022 17:00

Yes of course. The whole thing is ludicrous.

rumship · 14/12/2022 17:06

He declared himself king the moment Elizabeth took her last breath .

😂As some one who is defending the markles you certainly proved you know ZERO about how the RF work.

darisdet · 14/12/2022 17:15

I can't see those stats down thread, or the source, without registering/subscribing.

greenhousegal · 14/12/2022 19:04

The new Monarch steps into the shoes of the deceased one immediately. That is to ensure that the peasants don't have time to revolt.

Blossomtoes · 14/12/2022 11:27

Statista isn’t the Daily Mail 😂

No shit Sherlock. The point was actually that the Guardian doesn’t report much on the monarchy.

boatahoy · 14/12/2022 19:15

The RF have had their day and the sooner they go the better.

Sigh.
Ok I'll bite . He doesn't say 'I am king ' but the minute Elizabeth breathed her last- he 'is' king
By what process ?? That was my point
And I don't mean privy council announcements and scrolls and some geezer in a Disney outfit ( before the royalist jump to entirely miss the point as usual )
Who says he's king?

Nothing but he and the nonsense surrounding him -that and people who shrug and don't question anything and go along
Fine- go along with the Andrew protectors if you want.

More and more people are asking questions about this rotten lot of 'royals' and they won't stop

Duchess of Cambridge in the daily mail today being fawned over for hanging a Christmas bauble on a tree. Ridiculous.

She's doing a TV show and has released two images for it. The press are the fawners here, but let's be honest, she's not done anything odd - a TV show requires some level of publicity. They've released two images. That's it.

Right ....

Fair enough, Jamaica's moving onward and upward. What are your thoughts on the other 13 commonwealth countries with the king as head of state? What should they do?

We're already an ex-EU country. Do we want to instigate the dismantling of the commonwealth, or do we think they'd figure out a way to carry on without us?

What they should do is adopt the same model as other similar nations without a monarch. It really wouldn’t be a big deal.

Novella4 · 15/12/2022 08:07

On the topic of 'proclaiming makes it so' you'll remember Symon Hill arrested in Oxford ( then released when asked on what grounds he was arrested) for asking ' who elected him' when passing a 'proclamation'

Just for asking the question .
Saying - sorry 'proclaiming ' he's king doesn't make it so

Fawning? The papers have printed a picture. 🙄

Novella4 · 15/12/2022 08:45

Way to miss the point ...

Blossomtoes · 15/12/2022 08:48

Way to invent a point where there isn’t one.

monkeysmum21 · 15/12/2022 09:02

The fact that an elderly has been hired to do the job (at apprentice level) really shows how pointless the King is.

This! The OP and people with the same views are hilariously deluded if they think ANYONE ruling the country/at the top of the food chain in the country won't be over-privileged ... This 'The Royals Need To GO' mantra that some posters keep spouting is tired and tedious and boring. It's been said a thousand times on here, no-one is taking any notice of you, and it's NEVER going to happen. The Royal Family are here to stay. Sorry and all that. Wink

The Irish President Michael D Higgins doesn’t come across as overprivileged to me. An Irish friend met him walking along the beach and they had a lovely chat.

Cornettoninja · 15/12/2022 10:45

I’m sure he’s a very affable man in person@KimberleyClark, most politicians are, but you don’t have to look far to find people who do have issues with him/his privileges.

www.thejournal.ie/michael-d-higgins-the-candidate-podcast-4299349-Oct2018/

I’m don’t know the ins and outs of Irish politics but the higher someone is exalted the higher the test of the morality and ethics. Power corrupts and all that. The closest modern example I can think of someone who has resisted that is Munjica in Uruguay. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/José_Mujica

KimberleyClark · 15/12/2022 10:55

Interesting article. The Irish President’s expenses seem like a drop in the ocean compared to those of the royal family though - an allowance of €317k a year? Mujica does seem a one off though.

Novella4 · 15/12/2022 10:58

@Cornettoninja
You really don't know anything re presidents if you've chosen Miggedly to attack !😂

Cornettoninja · 15/12/2022 12:46

@Novella4 Who’s attacking? I’m just pointing out that hardly anyone is universally acceptable to everybody in elevated positions and it’s loosely the same issues that crop up everywhere.

@KimberleyClark But then if you go past the article to the comments there are various points about other financial ‘perks’ of the position. Again, not that I’m an expert in Irish politics, but there are seemingly valid questions about his expenses and position. On the face of it I don’t think he’s exactly representative of the ‘common man’.

@Blossomtoes 'showing off her creative side' by hanging a bauble 🙄🙄

Novella4 · 15/12/2022 18:15

@Cornettoninja
Waffle like 'the same issues crop up' is so vague as to be meaningless

Compare the literally institutionalised corruption and sleaze in the so called 'royal ' family and look at the Irish presidents .
Worlds apart .
