I’m Scottish, I was brought up to be anti English, SNP mad household, despite having English grandparents. I’ve always thought it made no sense, England is part of the UK like we are. I now have an English dp who is step- parent to my child, I support England in football as does my dc, every match my social media is filled with support for any country playing against England, I don’t get it! Can someone explain the logic to me, I can’t be the only one surely!

I'm English and find the attitude of the media around England/other nations tiresome at times. England is the biggest nation, but not the most important, we're supposed to be equals. So I can understand the attitude of ABE from some.

I want any country of the U.K. to do well. If England and Wales were playing each other then I would be supporting England being English, but apart from that I would be supporting any country team that makes up the U.K. playing in any international tournaments.

My husbands colleague is English, born to Danish parents, he supports Denmark as well as ABE. I don't get THAT! I get that he supports Denmark, but I don't get how he supports ABE!

ABE sentiment was always very strong in Ireland unsurprisingly and it’s so tiresome now. In truth, I think most people don’t mean it anymore. Aside from politics, the current England team and management seem thoroughly decent and their diversity represents a different kind of England. But ABE persists because it’s a cheap and easy joke for a comedian or media presenter and anyone can join in a conversation about football by saying ‘I hope England loose’. (I think people still mean it when it comes to rugby though).

I think it's the sheer arrogance that turns other countries of the UK against them.
We all need a little bit of self belief but England footballers have it in spades but unfortunately do not have the talent to back it up.

I didn’t think England and wales should have been in the same group. Yea they pick it randomly but it’s FIFA so we know it’s randomly random when necessary.

Living in the US I often hear ABE and it’s rude. The game today against France, I’m embarrassed that we have a team who seemingly can’t stay upright. You look at how Morocco play, they keep going and play with a passion for their country. The England team did a much better job this time compared to the Euro’s where their behavior was nothing short of embarrassing.

Nah. It’s well known the Scots , Irish and Welsh support any other country when it comes to Football other than England. They hate us and we know it.

We are in Scotland at the moment and were in a restaurant ( use that term loosely as it was Nando’s) when France scored and the whole place erupted in cheers, including the staff. I did ask the guy who took out plates away when Scotland s next match in the tournament was. Her wasnt impressed but if you can’t take it don’t dish it out.
