My husband is absolutely convinced that your average person in the Uk will not have heard of the band Crowded House. This is entirely based on the fact he can only name one song by them. Despite me listening to them on a weekly basis during 16 years I’ve been with him…
I’m equally convinced he’s wrong but I do have to admit I grew up in New Zealand and didn’t move back to the Uk until 1998 so probably fairly biased. I’m willing to concede they probably weren’t that popular here and I don’t think they had many big hits but I refuse to believe they were as unknown as he claims.
So who’s right?

Fall at your feet is one of the best songs in the world.
Other than that I only know weather with you and four seasons in one day. 44 from the UK.

ChilliMum · 08/12/2022 05:28

Love Crowded House, could definitely name more than 1 song. Distant Sun is probably my favourite. I am 48 though and I see quite a few replies are in the samish age bracket.

That said, I can't remember the last time I listened to their album so I am inspired to make them my playlist today and maybe a

crumbsneverdid · 08/12/2022 06:03

Definitely heard of them but wouldn't have been able to name a song, until I read a post on here. The weather one, I know well.

HollyDollyChristmas · 08/12/2022 06:14

I love them and this is one of my favourite playlists

iknowhimsowell · 08/12/2022 06:44

Loved them! I'm 42. Fall at your feet was the song that got me together with my first boyfriend at 17 😂

VoluptuaGoodshag · 08/12/2022 06:47

This thread is going to cause some uproar in the Spotify algorithms. Maybe we can get them to Xmas no.1. I’m Scottish, in my 50s. I think they are a band where you don’t realise how many songs of theirs you know until you hear them. Looking forward to my car journey this morning re-visiting happy memories. Remind me of an old flame

sorrynotathome · 08/12/2022 06:51

Your DH might not be able to name their hits but he would recognise them if he heard them. I’m also in my 50s and love their music. Also Finn Brothers’ “Everyone is Here” is a favourite album.

loislovesstewie · 08/12/2022 06:56

Nope, couldn't name any of their songs.

uncomplicatedish · 08/12/2022 06:59

I have though I'm really not a fan at all.

Sparklefoof · 08/12/2022 07:01

I bloody love Crowded House (im late 40s, in the UK). Might have to listen to Woodface today!

CheapFoodShits · 08/12/2022 07:01

I only know one song of theirs but have definitely heard of them!

RudsyFarmer · 08/12/2022 07:03

It’s going to be generational. I listened to them constantly as a teen, alongside REM.

megletthesecond · 08/12/2022 07:05

I do. But I'm 48 and had their greatest hits 25 years ago.
I doubt young people will know who they are.

EVHead · 08/12/2022 07:09

I’ve loved them since the early 90s. I’ve seen them (and various Finn combinations!) many times.

Someone once asked me if they were a “house” music band. 🤦🏽‍♀️

DD has only heard of them because I love them. 😊

OhAmBackAgain · 08/12/2022 07:11

yep, 40s here, and remember their sings in the charts and had an album given to me by a guy I was seeing briefly in the late 90s.

I've since rebought/downloaded or streamed that same album on so many different platforms 😂 I'm now going to add it to Spotify.

ByeByeMr · 08/12/2022 07:13

I have and I love them too. Can name many songs.

bigknickersbigknockers · 08/12/2022 07:16

Im 52 and i remember them

Rustyheart · 08/12/2022 07:18

I’ve followed the Finn’s career since 1980. Seen them more times than I could count. But I’m an Aus. They’re not nearly as well known here in U.K. not many Aus and NZ bands are known in the U.K. although having said that, a crowded house show here will still be sold out. I’ve seen them at the Roundhouse recently but also seen them at the Albert Hall.
also- they are so much better than those awful well known songs like Weather With You. That’s the sort of song that U.K. will know I think. The worst one!

ChessieFL · 08/12/2022 07:25

Yes, I watched their Glastonbury set this year (on TV!) and was
listening to their greatest hits a couple of weeks ago! Early 40s here.

HerReputationMadeItDifficultToProceed · 08/12/2022 07:29

I know them. They were brilliant and I definitely know more than one song. I also thought that they were British!

Also never think of them without thinking of this. Yes, I will buy that copy of 'Punch' magazine!

Buzzinwithbez · 08/12/2022 07:35

I loved crowded House when I was a teenager. They toured in the UK last year, but sadly I didn't manage to see them.

FatOaf · 08/12/2022 07:40

The only song of theirs that many people will have heard was a hit in 1991, so I'd assume most people under 40 and most people over 70 won't have heard of them.

loislovesstewie · 08/12/2022 07:49

I think it also depends on what sort of music you like. I mean lots of musicians have completely passed me by, because it's just not my thing.

loislovesstewie · 08/12/2022 07:50

I'm listening to the Grateful Dead at this actual minute, same as I was in 1991!

U2HasTheEdge · 08/12/2022 07:51

Love CH. I listen to them all the time in the car.
