My husband is absolutely convinced that your average person in the Uk will not have heard of the band Crowded House. This is entirely based on the fact he can only name one song by them. Despite me listening to them on a weekly basis during 16 years I’ve been with him…
I’m equally convinced he’s wrong but I do have to admit I grew up in New Zealand and didn’t move back to the Uk until 1998 so probably fairly biased. I’m willing to concede they probably weren’t that popular here and I don’t think they had many big hits but I refuse to believe they were as unknown as he claims.
So who’s right?

I know of them. But like your husband I only know one song - Don’t dream it’s over. Which I imagine is what most will recognise from them

TaylorZwift · 07/12/2022 22:06

I loved Crowded House. Off to have a re-listen.

Youwillyouwill · 07/12/2022 22:08

Everywhere you go, always take the weather with you!

HomeRabbit · 07/12/2022 22:09

I feel really wistful reading the track names. Will listen tomorrow!

Split Enz, Neil & Tim Finn.

We actually drove past the Crowded House Museum in. NZ in the late 90s and my boyfriend wouldn't stop or alter our plans to go the next day.
I still feel I missed out, why did I marry him, have two kids and still together 24years later. This might be the push I need to ltb.

BabyOnBoard90 · 08/12/2022 00:00

Never heard of them

Florenz · 08/12/2022 00:03

They are a quite famous band. Most people aged about 40-60 would have heard of them. I don't know about those younger or older than that.

Freetodowhatiwant · 08/12/2022 00:10

Really love them! Late 40s. My first introduction to them, admittedly, was Weather With You when that came out (1990...?) but after that I bought an album or two (CD) and became a real fan. Have seen them a couple of times too, most recently Neil and son about 4 years ago.

Amblesidebadger · 08/12/2022 00:11

So famous amongst the middle aged that it's an Alan Partridge gag I'm going to wear a t shirt with 'Crowded House' written on it

I definitely had the best of CD and said t shirt! (40s)

SignOnTheWindow · 08/12/2022 00:20

Am 44. Loved them as a 19 year old! Must listen again...

ingenvillvetavardukoptdintroja · 08/12/2022 02:33

Maybe he's just a bit too young. I'm the same age but my sister is 6 years older and was obsessed. So their music always gives me a nostalgic vibe. Their Glastonbury set made me cry!

icegoose · 08/12/2022 02:41

Late 40's but yes definitely heard of them.

Strokethefurrywall · 08/12/2022 03:33

Early 40s -
Loved them and totally listened to them on repeat in the early 90s!

MumofSpud · 08/12/2022 04:16

Oblomov22 · 08/12/2022 04:17

BiBoop · 08/12/2022 04:47

They were great at Glastonbury this year, which no doubt will have opened them up to a newer generation again

Pineapple head! Love it

isthismylifenow · 08/12/2022 04:54

How has your dh taken the news that he is so very wrong? 😂

emptythelitterbox · 08/12/2022 04:56

Heard of them.
Probably because of my Aussie stbxh

KrystynaZ · 08/12/2022 04:59

Take the Weather.
Apart from that I can't name any of their songs even though I own one of their CDs.
They are all quite same-y.
