They sent me a tea towel in the post today. I didn’t ask them too. I neither need or want it. It’s cotton, made in China and is hand wash only. I went on twitter to enquire as to the ethical sourcing of it and whether I could return it to store and they wanted photos? How many tea towel mail shots are they sending that they need a photo? I try to shop ethically and only buy what I need, this got me so cross today!

It’s get worse…. Florida Disney land, Holland, South of France!

Great work, their carbon footprint must be up there!

Clearly I’m in a minority. I try so hard to minimise my impact and waste. Even if I recycle it that’s still an unnecessary waste of resources, I wonder how many they sent out and the environmental impact of it all.

It's not your impact if you didn't pay for the towel. I'd just give the towel away or donate it to a charity shop. Or use it yourself (after all, it already exists).

If you return it to Sainsbury's, they're likely to dispose of it rather than giving it to someone else, which is the most wasteful option.

"It gets better.

check out the OP’s history…. AHe talks about her Disney holiday in Florida, a wedding in the SA, her husband flying back from Amsterdam…. It would seem the OP’s stance on this tea towel is rather at odds with her stance on air travel!"

Nice work @Feef83 ! I think the OP has disappeared to do a quick name change and disappear backwards into the hedge Homer style.

Well, this awkward, isn't it, OP? How's that 'minimising impact' going for you? 😂😂😂

(Another loyal Sainsbury’s customer here who is mighty pissed off at the lack of free tea towel!)

Greenfairydust · 03/12/2022 17:42

Can't stand this company.

Horrible stores.

I used to have a friend who worked in their head office. Was not impressed with what I heard in term of the company ethos and staff behaviour.

The company also bombard me with constant junk mail although I already complained about it and asked them to stop mailing me.

This just sound like the silliest marketing idea ever. They should send their customers an additional discount for Christmas, not a silly tea towel.

I am moving to a new area soon and hope I can make sure I never use any of their shops again. Only used them until because it was the nearest supermarket to my current location.

Mrsphilmiller · 03/12/2022 17:46

they sent a clean tea towel? And not one smeared in shit? because THEN i would complain. 🙄

Notanotherone6 · 03/12/2022 17:47

Do you realise how ridiculous you sound? People surely don't think like this, do they?!

I'm sure they'll miss your custom! 🤣

Another one here who spends a fortune in Sainsburys. Where's my tea towel?

Adding my voice to the chorus of tea towel disappointment. What makes OP special? What have the rest of us done not to get an unwanted tea towel? Perhaps we spend too much (I'm thousands too) and are thus taken for granted.

I considered sending a strong email but cannot face the rejection of being confirmed not tea towel worthy.

StressedToTheMaxxx · 03/12/2022 17:55

YellowTreeHouse · 03/12/2022 16:26

Yeah, see that doesn’t bother me. If I want to buy something, I buy it. If somethings broken I chuck it and get a new one.

Life’s too short to be pissing about in some sort of meaningless crusade.

And life will be even shorter for youur childrens childrens children....if you keep up that attitude!

MsDianaBarry · 03/12/2022 18:00

Talking about posting history @YellowTreeHouse could start an argument in an empty room.

velvetiserenthusiast · 03/12/2022 18:01

How do people like OP get through life? I can't imagine having time to be annoyed about something like this. Life must be so stressful with this outlook..

SkylightSkylight · 03/12/2022 18:03

girlmom21 · 03/12/2022 16:01

Why would you not?

Oh God don't start her off again. If you want to know just AS & read one of threads where she winds everyone up.

I’m a loyal sainsburys shopper. Where’s my fucking tea towel!!

We had one - or at least DH did 😡 where's mine? It's my nectar card

I'd take the hand washing with a pinch of salt. Ours is going in the machine with everything else. An extra tea towel for free is always welcome.

TwoMonthsOff · 03/12/2022 18:06

I love sainsburys they sell chestnut Maran eggs, gran luchito nachos and send me money off vouchers all the time. I would also have loved a free tea towel, some people don’t know they are born ! 😭

mam0918 · 03/12/2022 18:06

I didnt get a free tea towel :(

Honestly dont see how anyone could be this furious over a practical free gift.

pocketvenuss · 03/12/2022 18:08

A tea towel that needs to be hand washed?

I was going to say I don't spend thousands, and then with a sad realisation it dawned on me that I do.

If only we didn't have to buy food. Xmas Grin

SkylightSkylight · 03/12/2022 18:11

Athenen0ctua · 03/12/2022 16:15

You do it as you go, you don't need to 'sort' it. If I finish a punnet of mushrooms I rinse and put the punnet on the side of the sink to be taken out. Are you saying you would put it in your rubbish? What about cardboard food packaging where there is plastic containing the food inside, do you not put that in your recycling bin/box/bag?

@Athenen0ctua The Goady One reportedly recycles nothing, absolutely nothing.

i'd put a mushroom punnet in my bin because HART council doesn't recycle them. (The only plastic they take is bottles), it's annoying, but given our recycling is communal & my neighbours put all manner of shit in there, I suspect none of it gets recycled anyway.

MsFannySqueers · 03/12/2022 16:25

Tea towels you say? I love a tea towel. I am with PP’s. Where’s mine? When we cleared my late MIL’s house we found her tea towel collection. Every time her and late FIL visited somewhere they bought a tea towel from that place. I love using them. Especially the well washed ones they are the best for drying. Sorry just realised that I am coming over as somewhat of a tea towel obsessive.

You're in good company!!!

Oh, the professional contrarian is back I see! Very boring, they seem to think not recycling is worth reporting to everyone.

Dutchesss · 03/12/2022 18:15

Why would I? Confused I’m not sorting through my rubbish. It’s easier and more hygienic to just put it all in one bin.

😂😂The irony. I'm just glad most people are much smarter than this.

SkylightSkylight · 03/12/2022 18:16

PuppyMonkey · 03/12/2022 16:26

Well that’s terrible OP but now I’m really invested in @YellowTreeHouse and her not recycling anything stance.Grin

@PuppyMonkey

oh just AS & you can read all about her her landfill ways, nothing donated to charity shop or anything, everything just to landfill.

Ok, I've picked up now that they have done this before!

It's annoying that your council doesn't take basic things like that. I'm not a recycling fanatic, if people don't want to wash their individual yoghurt pots I totally get that, and I don't trust that it all gets recycled either, but not bothering at all seems crazy.

SkylightSkylight · 03/12/2022 18:21

mrsfeatherbottom · 03/12/2022 16:31

I got mine today - thought it was nice. Will ignore the label and bung it in the normal wash.

@mrsfeatherbottom

any chance of a photo? I'm trying to decide how muffed to be??

Depending on how much I liked it, it would go in the pile of cloths to line trays, pot holder etc or in the ' it'll get washed with the others & take its chances!
