They sent me a tea towel in the post today. I didn’t ask them too. I neither need or want it. It’s cotton, made in China and is hand wash only. I went on twitter to enquire as to the ethical sourcing of it and whether I could return it to store and they wanted photos? How many tea towel mail shots are they sending that they need a photo? I try to shop ethically and only buy what I need, this got me so cross today!

Why would I? Confused I’m not sorting through my rubbish. It’s easier and more hygienic to just put it all in one bin.

You do it as you go, you don't need to 'sort' it. If I finish a punnet of mushrooms I rinse and put the punnet on the side of the sink to be taken out. Are you saying you would put it in your rubbish? What about cardboard food packaging where there is plastic containing the food inside, do you not put that in your recycling bin/box/bag?

amiold · 03/12/2022 16:18

You need a hobby

TheGrimSqueakersFlea · 03/12/2022 16:19

Bet you wouldn't be very cross if it was an expensive tea towel.

Everything goes into the same kitchen bin, because it’s just much easier. I’m not leaving stuff on the side to take out later.

Our recycling bins remain in the garden untouched.

MsFannySqueers · 03/12/2022 16:25

Tea towels you say? I love a tea towel. I am with PP’s. Where’s mine? When we cleared my late MIL’s house we found her tea towel collection. Every time her and late FIL visited somewhere they bought a tea towel from that place. I love using them. Especially the well washed ones they are the best for drying. Sorry just realised that I am coming over as somewhat of a tea towel obsessive.

PuppyMonkey · 03/12/2022 16:26

Well that’s terrible OP but now I’m really invested in @YellowTreeHouse and her not recycling anything stance.Grin

wonderstuff · 03/12/2022 16:04

I think recycling, while important, gives a false sense of sustainability. What’s better is generating less waste to start with.

Yeah, see that doesn’t bother me. If I want to buy something, I buy it. If somethings broken I chuck it and get a new one.

Life’s too short to be pissing about in some sort of meaningless crusade.

Yesthatismychildsigh · 03/12/2022 16:27

Hand wash tea towel 😂
obviously sourced by someone clueless in the kitchen or laundry department.

AngelinaFibres · 03/12/2022 16:28

wonderstuff · 03/12/2022 15:57

Clearly I’m in a minority. I try so hard to minimise my impact and waste. Even if I recycle it that’s still an unnecessary waste of resources, I wonder how many they sent out and the environmental impact of it all.

You are being completely extreme.

Peedoffo · 03/12/2022 16:29

Where's my bloody tea towel ? I spend 1000s there every year 🤣🤣🤣🤣😩

stuntbubbles · 03/12/2022 16:29

I’m currently annoyed at Boots for adding unwanted gallons of antibacterial hand wash, something I have no use for, to my order of stuff I do. At least a tea towel you can give to charity, what can I do with these vast plastic bottles of slime?

jtaeapa · 03/12/2022 16:31

A hand wash only tea towel is about as useful as a chocolate teapot. Ridiculous. Lots of people would just bin that in landfill, so really irresponsible of Sainsburys to send useless shite out.

mrsfeatherbottom · 03/12/2022 16:31

I got mine today - thought it was nice. Will ignore the label and bung it in the normal wash.

Ramble0n · 03/12/2022 16:32

Waaaaaaah I want a free tea towel.

jtaeapa · 03/12/2022 16:32

I got some ceravie (?) moisturiser sachets in my hello fresh order. I binned it as I don’t use moisturiser and haven’t got time to find somewhere to get rid of it.

lap90 · 03/12/2022 16:32

Hardly something to be really annoyed about - can always give it away!!

angelikacpickles · 03/12/2022 16:33

Given that it has already been created and sent to you, which is admittedly wasteful, would you not just use it? Surely that is the most sustainable thing to do in the circumstances?

LadyPenelope68 · 03/12/2022 16:33

Well aren’t you lucky that the issue of a tea towel is your biggest issue today. Have a Biscuit

Doesn't it fill up quickly so you are raking rubbish out more often anyway? Mine lasts a week to a fortnight and it's a small bin. It takes seconds to run the recycling out every few days and my paper/cardboard box just lives under the stairs.

Ramble0n · 03/12/2022 16:34

I never get free stuff. I've had some of my tea towels for years. I feel I've done my bit for tea towel conservation so deserve a new one from Sainsburys.

Boooooot · 03/12/2022 16:36

@YellowTreeHouse we never recycled at our old house either as everything needed sorting into Speer are bags and it was a pain in the ass. We do (mostly) now though it all just gets chucked in a wheely bin.

It's just a teatowel not a cashmere jumper. I'd just throw it in a normal wash. If it shrinks who cares?

Feef83 · 03/12/2022 16:38

i LOVE the fact that last month the OP started a thread about….

Taking her kids to Tenerife on an All inclusive

Sounds like a very green holiday 😂

WhiteFire · 03/12/2022 16:39

I, too, am a loyal Sainsbury's customer and no tea towel here. Maybe i am not a target customer for the Finest range.
