Were couple in M&S queue cunty fuckers?

DeeofDenmark · 02/12/2022 15:12

Really busy in M&S today, I just had a couple of items to buy. I glanced down the queues and picked the one that looked quickest. There was a big shop on the belt but only one person queuing with one item in her hand.
Just as there was room for her to put her item on the belt her partner turned up with a trolley. I’m not exaggerating to say this trolley was loaded as high as it was possible to load it.
So Aibu to think it is not ok to hold a place in a queue like this?

I am really interested to read how many people would not only ask to skip the queue if they only have a few items, but assume the answer should be yes, and react badly if not.

What did they say when you challenged them?

I am so f’ing sick of this passive aggressiveswhite! Got something to say pal? Say it.

PussGirl · 02/12/2022 16:26

Hard to erase the mental image of two women playing tug-of-war with a turkey on Christmas Eve in M&S in the Metro Centre some years ago - just unbelievable.

One of them had grabbed it from the other's trolley when her back was turned.

TheTeddyBears · 02/12/2022 16:28

It's not only cheeky but it's very rude and especially not to at least acknowledge it by saying oh sorry he was meant to be just behind me or that you cld go infront.

I wldnt have been able to hide my rage, I hate waiting I'd have picked my stuff up and went to another check out or self service.

PurBal · 02/12/2022 16:29

No one is ever in so much of a rush that they can’t let the person with 6 items instead of 60 go first.

Always4Brenner · 02/12/2022 16:30

I had basket full today so happy to let a couple of people go through with only a couple of items. I’m slow at packing so don’t mind doing this.

ChimbarasiKotapaxi · 02/12/2022 16:32

I agree OP To save a place with one item for a huge shop is cheating and misleading to the next person who joins the queue They should have let you through

GimmeBiscuits · 02/12/2022 16:34

I'd have very pointedly put the divider down behind my item and, if challenged, pointed out that it was rude to do what they'd done, and they'd have to wait to buy the rest of their items, or let you go in front. But I've lost a lot of patience with people in general.

soupmaker · 02/12/2022 16:34

What I don't understand OP is why you didn't say anything. The only reason these CFs carry on behaving like this is because they're not actually challenged. Huffing and puffing and drawing looks is absolutely pointless.

I always let folk with a few bits ahead of me in the massive till queues and challenge anyone who try's to push in or queue jump, they've always retreated because they've been called out for being dicks.

UnbearableLoss · 02/12/2022 16:35

I'm sure their bank card wouldn't have melted after one use in chip and pin, there is no good reason why anyone should do this. Either queue at the same time or separately

soupmaker · 02/12/2022 16:36

Being menopausal helps in these situations as I no longer give two fucks.

So I'm not the only one who reads CF as Cunty Fucker 😂

I always do too!

Blossomtoes · 02/12/2022 15:46

Cheeky fuckery at its finest.

Just to restore faith in human nature, a woman in Tesco’s today with a huge trolley packed to the brim waved the woman behind her with a couple of items ahead. It was a lovely thing to see.

I love it when people do this and I also do the same. What goes around comes around and all that!

Taxistaxing · 02/12/2022 16:40

As a single person/parent holding a place in any queue is unreasonable imo.

I hate it too, such a smug twat response

LookItsMeAgain · 02/12/2022 16:43

I would have had to say "Oh, I didn't realise that you had your whole Christmas shopping to go through. You won't mind then if I go ahead as I've got fewer than 15 items here, thanks ever so much" and make as though I'm actually going to go past the person that has been 'reserving' a spot in the queue.

Jesus! I mean with all of the queuing that we all had to do during lockdowns, I really thought we had perfected the queuing system and the amount of cheeky fuckery that people got away with in the past was actually a thing of the past. Clearly not!

AttilaTheUOkHun · 02/12/2022 16:45

Craver · 02/12/2022 15:15

Have been known to fire my shopping on floor in this situation and stomp out... Difficult to return the next day as relative is the store manager.

Hmm Are you 2 years old?

What did they say when you challenged them?

Why would OP do that? These people hadn't done anything techically wrong - no crime had been committed - it was just very annoying.

LikeTearsInRain · 02/12/2022 16:45

This is a really clever idea I might use it in future. If you take too long getting round the shop your partner can just let other people behind in the queue skip ahead and when you’re done you can just go nip straight in with no long queues.

Thanks for the tip!

fyn · 02/12/2022 16:15

Don’t bother waiting for the self check out, you can scan it all on the sparks app and then just pay on your phone and leave, no queuing necessary.

My phone is nearly as old as me and doesn't do apps. It does do phone calls and texts.

HotChoxs · 02/12/2022 16:51

I would have just pushed ahead of them and let them say something about it

FirstnameSuesecondnamePerb · 02/12/2022 16:51

You'd just move queues surely? Or ask nicely if you put your 2 items through first.
Mind you, our local Mark's it is quicker to queue at the tills than attempt the self serve, which literally has no staff. So if it doesn't work or you want to buy booze, you have to give up. Twice I have just walked away and I'm not alone. You often see abandoned shopping at the till there.

HarvestThyme · 02/12/2022 16:53

GlitteryGreen · 02/12/2022 15:45

I don't think they did anything wrong by only one of them waiting in te queue, but I would definitely expect them to let you go ahead with your couple of items.

Yes, they did. You cannot send one person to queue while the other fills a massive trolley. People in the queue are choosing lanes based on how much people in front are buying.

It is okay to have a huge trolley in the queue, then one person nips off to to grab the 2 or 3 things you forgot. As long as you don't hold up the queue doing so.

VivX · 02/12/2022 16:53

It's a staggering breach of unspoken British queuing etiquette.

But the correct British response would have been to stare crossly at the back of their head, possibly with an just-about-audible sigh, if you were feeling particularly assertive and got completely carried away in the moment.
