Really busy in M&S today, I just had a couple of items to buy. I glanced down the queues and picked the one that looked quickest. There was a big shop on the belt but only one person queuing with one item in her hand.
Just as there was room for her to put her item on the belt her partner turned up with a trolley. I’m not exaggerating to say this trolley was loaded as high as it was possible to load it.
So Aibu to think it is not ok to hold a place in a queue like this?

No one has ever 'pushed' passed anyone so you'll be fine on the pushing front. Don't worry your pretty little head about it anymore.

Your story has a lot of twists and turns. So tell us do you wait near a till and you and your husband then join the back of a queue or are you in the queue and expecting the people behind you to let him past with his trolley to join you?

So are you waiting by a till or are you in the queue and expecting your husband to join you in front of people who are waiting in the queue? The thread is about someone "saving" a place in the queue so their husband can push past people who have been queuing, it isn't about people waiting near a till.

Waiting by the till. If someone with a few items comes I move myself out the way. Normally then dp is in sight so if someone comes with a massive trolley I've pointed dp out and I have never had a word said other than no problem.

I can't twist and turn so it really hasn't. I also haven't got a husband. HTH!

So nothing like the OP was asking about then? Good job they never have queues where you live.

Why? I save a space. That's exactly what the person was doing. They may have let someone with a couple of items in front of them.. though we'll never know

So you were standing in a queue and your PARTNER was expecting to go in front of other people who had been waiting? Not you are just waiting near a till and get out of other people's way?

I think you are trying to justify that you and your partner don't think he (or she) should have to wait their turn.

It's me that can't wait not my partner. I don't stand there tapping my feet. I've explained myself to you now. If it's not good enough then I'm sorry it'll just have to do. I'm not wasting anymore brain space with this absolutely pointless conversation. Hope you have a lovely evening.

I don't think they did anything wrong by only one of them waiting in te queue, but I would definitely expect them to let you go ahead with your couple of items.

One person in the queue with one item in theor hand then the other comes along with a mile high trolley, that is a-hole entitlement right there.

I was in a checkout queue yesterday, I was third in the queue. Checkout next to us opened and before No 1 person could get their trolley out No 2 in the queue jumped in and took the place. No 1 didn't look happy, the person being served at our checkout was slow and the No 2 person finished first and the assistant called for someone to come round, No 1 person didn't hear and I tapped her on the shoulder and said the next till was free, she was very nice and thanked me for letting her know.

Today I was waiting to be served at the newsagents, man in front of me was next to be served but he told me to go first. I was also very happy that he had done that and thanked him.

Civilised behaviour is so much more pleasant for everyone.
