The Lady Hussey racism thing

Tiiiiiiiiiiired · 01/12/2022 10:58

I am really conflicted about this.

If went to live in Japan (I did live there for 3 years several years ago) I would be expected to be asked about where I'm from because I don't look Japanese (and in fact I was asked many times! I didn't mind at all, it was my choice to be in Japan and I knew I didn't look japanese). If I chose to stay in that country and have children, I'd expect my children would be asked the same, and their children and that although they would be Japanese by birth, I would hope they would be happy to talk about their heritage and where they are from and not mind being asked why they don't look Japanese and what the history is. I wouldnt think it racist and wouldn't want such questions to be stopped because we only learn from others, and about others, by talking and feeling safe to ask questions.

So why in the UK does everyone have to be sooo careful with what they say? This woman has a non English name, was wearing some non western clothing, as was asked about her heritage. Why is this abuse?

We need to stop being so sensitive and allow dialogue.

Where have I said she's a poor misunderstood innocent? I haven't. In actual fact I suspect a large part of her motivation for resigning was more to preserve the reputation of the royal family than because she truly believed she'd said anything wrong.

Your posts paint her as a self sacrificing Joan of Arc, giving up her good name to help God help the Royal Family.

If people would pull their noses out of Hussey’s arse, they’d see she is a bully.

So if you suspect she didn't say anything wrong (and from your comments that appears to be founded on the fact she is an elderly white upper class woman who does things the 'right' way and therefore can do no wrong) you are actually saying you think NF and the witnesses are lying (which appears to be based on the fact that NF went on social media and didn't do things the 'right' way)

So NF and unrelated witnesses are lying but the Palace and LS are apologising because LS thinks that the right thing to do to preserve the reputation of a family that is happy to shelter a pedophile. I mean if it was true that would make LS a better person than the late Queen!

It was not a transcript

Would you need a transcript if you had a grievance with someone at work? Can you imagine it?

I appreciate it sounded like a good idea before you posted but hey ho.

Lndnmummy · 02/12/2022 00:01

Sorry my quote thing wasnt working. Eyeroll for the "dignified and loyal lady".

Do you think it would be sensible to listen to what black people have to say on this topic? Those with lived experiences of systemic racism in Britain?

Surely one needs to analyse each alleged incident individually. You cannot apply a blanket rationale and make judgements and decisions based on 'what x group have to say' . Also opinions from different people in the same group vary, not everyone is in complete agreement

They can’t, they’ve already decided Ngozi can’t have an Igbo name, that her dress is deliberately ‘African’ and that she’s a reactionary.

Can’t let a black prison’s view ruin all that.

I don't view her a Joan of Arc but I think she as worked for the RF for 60 + years and is rightly or wrongly exceedingly loyal to them and when the chips are down will do anything to save their reputation. I didn't say she was right or wrong to do this or that I admire her for doing this but I strongly suspect this is why she did it.
Frankly I would get rid of the lot of them I think its an outdated institution but Im old enough to accept that many don't share my views especially someone who's worked for them for 60+ years.

FFS, they can't even listen to what the RF said wrt SH's disgraceful, embarrassing and racist behaviour.🙄 They will invent crazy conspiracies involving the RF and multiple representatives from charities to avoid the fact that what happened is racist.😂😂😂🤯

They don't care what black people say. They don't believe what black people say. Even when that black person has witnesses and the result of a Palace investigation to prove it.

They are racists.

Lampshadered · 02/12/2022 00:05

A white person being born in an African country wouldn't be 'the norm', wouldn't be 'a problem'. Just a fact

So you do see Britain as being a white country and black people living here not the norm.

Lampshadered · 02/12/2022 00:08

It is rather surprising that someone so supposedly traumatised can come up with a fairly lengthy and seemingly coherent account

Said every rapist's defence lawyer.

I didn't say it. Someone mentioned it upthread and why it was 'a problem' in this instance.

Britain is a majority white country though, that's a fact and not a problem.

Let's not forget -

she didn't behave in a dignified enough way (with undertones of angry black woman)
white people get asked where they come from too so that's okay
we must be nice to old people (but not NF, she's not old enough, or white enough for her age to be a reason to be nice to her)
she can't be believed because she apparently changed her name and that makes her untrustworthy
she has previously said something mean about the royal family so she must have forced LS to be racist to her

I mean come on, as a seminar on Reasons it's okay to be racist, this thread is doing well!

Ah we aren't allowed to mention rape in this thread, some people get very indignant about it

Cakemonger · 02/12/2022 00:17

I meant 'the norm' in a loaded sense, not as a statement of who is or isn't within an ethnic majority in a given country, which is factual, but as to who is seen as belonging and fully British. The very idea that race is linked to national belonging is racist.

Look as I have said previously I believe she said the wrong thing and behaved inappropriately, I don't think she is a "poor misunderstood innocent". I'm not sure why she behaved in the way she did as I don't know her. Maybe she is an inveterate racist and she was being intentionally offensive, maybe she thought fuck it Im tired of pressing the flesh of all these people and making small talk its time I said what I really think and hope no one says anything or as a privileged "white upper class women" she is totally out of touch with the world, or maybe she has had a 60 year history of impeccable behaviour and had an out of character moment or for all we know she's got dementia and and just spouts crap all day and has lost insight into how offensive she's being and the royal family had some sort of loyalty to her as she's served them faithfully for 60 years and she's Williams godmother and hoped it would be ok who knows? No one unless she actually comes out a gives a completely honest interview and puts her side of the story which I very much doubt she's going to do.
Personally because she is highly unlikely to come out a give her side of the story I don't like the generally one sided trial by media of this women be it the press or social media.

Beautifully summarised! They’ll be trying to convince us the Earth is flat next. How dare we question their intellectual superiority that allows them to see Hussey is innocent and Ngozi is a hussy.

Ah she's schrodingers racist, she both said something racist, but is also falling on her sword for the honour of the royal family, unless she comes out and makes a speech about it. Got it.

All about those white women words in the press to give the story authority.

Lunar270 · 02/12/2022 00:30

Personally I think this was her Cristiano Ronaldo moment. Sick of being stuck at the old club and desperate to transfer out.

Let's face it. After 60 years of public facing roles and meeting people from all round the world, she's not some old woman who randomly walked into the event. She'll be a highly trained member of the team, used to dealing with anyone and everyone. This wasn't a mistake but a deliberate move.

I wish MN would let us at posting data. I want to see the cross over between:

'she didn't mean to be racist she's just old'

'you should take your husband to the doctors he's probably not abusive he just has a MH condition'

'oh you cant have kids, thats a shame, you should just adopt'

I feel like I would build a beautiful Venn diagram if only MN would give me the data

She was being evasive, that's why Lady Susan Hussey pursued the matter. How is it that there is a word for word transcript of the conversation. Was someone recording it in order to cause trouble? Hint: yes.

You should take it as a compliment he wanted to feel your arse/cat-called you.

This isn't a funny topic but it's been a long day, my insomnia and migraine are battling it out and I found this funnier than I should have done

"60 bloody years I've been doing this for. You would have thought they would have let me retire when old Lizzie died but no here I am shaking hands and wearing high heels like my bunions aren't killing me. There's only one option left, channel Prince Philip and hope Twitter can save me before Elon Musk has totally destroyed it..."

FedUpwithItToday · 01/12/2022 11:51

I think she is being totally disingenuous.

On the website Future Hackney the first line of her profile says this:

Ngozi Fulani
My parent’s came to London from the Caribbean and most of their children were born here. Seven children...

The she goes on to describe how her father discussed and taught her about her African heritage.

She was pretending not to understand Lady H.

Why have a web page about yourself and the very first thing you mention is your parent's Caribbean heritage, yet you pretend not to understand someone asking you about your family roots?

*Why have a web page about yourself and the very first thing you mention is your parent's Caribbean heritage, yet you pretend not to understand someone asking you about your family roots?

What are you on about? Her website is for her charity, Sistah Space, and it doesn’t mention her parents at all.

On the home page it says ‘SUPPORTING AFRICAN & CARIBBEAN
HERITAGE WOMEN AFFECTED BY DOMESTIC & SEXUAL ABUSE’

As it’s a charity for African and Caribbean heritage women, it would be remiss of them not to signpost that.
