Things in RECENT times you can’t quite believe we’re seen as ‘ok’

The Jeremy Kyle Show. Middle class man shouts at poor people who aren’t terribly bright, for not being perfect humans. So pleased it ended.

On X Factor and BGT when they used to show ‘funny’ auditions of people who believed they had talent but really didn’t so got laughed at. They then brought them back for the final to do a humiliating routine live so they could be laughed at more.

Supernanny. Childless woman who can barely speak properly pulls lemon faces, tells parents they’re shit and Instills sudden and sharp changes in the child’s home where actual camera are focussing on them when they’re distraught and upset

Sun sea and suspicious parents. Mum and dad spying on their adult children from a rooftop in Greece whilst said child gets off with a stranger. CREEPY!

Sun In.

Bleached your hair to a dry crispy frizz. Did not give you subtle sun-kissed highlights.

😂😂,I never actually used it but seeing the results on those that did put me off for life!

lurchermummy · 30/11/2022 18:52

@AttilaTheUOkHun it is to me

LuluBlakey1 · 30/11/2022 18:53

As recent as this year- absolute tv dross- I'm a celebrity, Love Island, Loose Women, now Loose Men, the Kardashions, anything with Katie Price, or ex-Towie people - they are programmes designed for the thick and brain dead.

A fair bit of current trans ideology and the promotion of gender-reassignment surgery for kids under 18 despite statistics showing that many girls in particular regret gender reassignment surgery later on in life. There's a reason we don't let kids make these kinds of major decisions in most areas of life, they can hang fire til 18 and they're legally adults then do what they like.

Boris Johnson apparently being loved by so many people despite being an absolute amoral shitshow of a human being who lies and lies over and over again to feed his own arrogant delusions.

In 2019, Mr Justice Hayden who observed: ‘I cannot think of any more obviously fundamental human right than the right of a man to have sex with his wife,’ when presiding over a case where a man wanted to be able to have sex with his mentally ill wife even if she was unable to give her consent (and some people defended this statement and took umbrage when female MPs pointed out that it's the same as legitimising marital rape).

Anyone fancy a sweet in the shape of a cigarette??

I was just thinking about this earlier today, words that stil seemed acceptable in around the 80s in my childhood (with warning these might be upsetting for some people) - I remember people using 'half caste' for people with some black heritage and 'mongul' for people with Down Syndrome - and not intended insultingly, just as a descriptor.

Also that people used to laugh and joke about paedophiles as simply 'dirty old men', and just a bit of a joke and 'lucky' (if their targets were teenage girls). I remember the news stories about Bill Wyman dating 13 year old Patsy Smith and they were all 'Phwoar the lucky old devil' and not 'OMG this is appalling!' 😮

Though of course the 80s is ages ago now!

Half caste is still very common in Cornwall! I didn’t even realise it wasn’t ok until I moved away and I’m mixed race myself!

one day we will be saying this about 'Naked Attraction' i'm sure!

antelopevalley · 30/11/2022 18:56

That many people still think it is fine to laugh at people with speech impediments.

SweetSakura · 30/11/2022 18:56

FlissyPaps · 30/11/2022 18:50

I’m not saying it was normal. I’m saying it was seen as ‘ok’ since most of my family members and their friends would drive around uninsured and without licenses before the 21st century.

I questioned my mum about it once and she said “oh everyone did it back then”.

I really don't think this was ever seen as ok?

We had a smoking room at 6th form college for us students ( late 80s)

Same here in late 70s. Though you had to have a note from your parents to say you were allowed to smoke before you could use it.

I remember people smoking in restaurants when I was a child. The parents in Pizza Hut would be blowing their fag smoke over the table next to them. Didn't want to ruin their own little darlings' pizza!

Yes, it's surreal to me. I would be struggling and wheezing and it didn't seem to bother the smokers at all.

We had a smoking room at 6th form college for us students ( late 80s)

We had a mobile for our common room, the teachers didn't go in there and kids would just smoke weed/ take acid all day long possibly leaving to go to the odd lesson, if they could be arsed. Friends 30 year old drug dealer boyfriend would turn up to sell weed to the students.

Lost my innocent in that common room I did! Mid 90s

I don't think anyone apart from Gillian and her agent thought that was OK at any point in time...💩

Just realised I'd better clarify lost my innocence. I didn't shag anyone there. I did smoke a spliff for the first time.

Weekly magazines that had a “ring of shame”, shaming celebrities for having (gasp) belly rolls, cellulite and stretch marks.

Do you remember when Heat did a set of free stickers and one of them was “Help! Harvey’s going to eat me!” about Jordan’s son? They were pulled up on it at the time but amazing it even got to print

It was not seen as okay. Your mum is lying to you.

Tigofigo · 30/11/2022 19:03

Matt Hancock on IACGMOOH (and coming third)

The way disabled children are treated at school and often have to fight for an appropriate education and support

Giving young children access to screens as a default

Politicians breaking their own rules and lying with zero accountability

Normalisation of drinking 1-2 bottles of wine a night

FancyFanny · 30/11/2022 19:03

Oh dear, OP- looks like the thread didn't go as planned. You might know that MNetters these days can't keep anything light-hearted...what a shame- it could have been quite a fun whimsical threa

antelopevalley · 30/11/2022 19:03

Cramming kids into the back of the car, the more the merrier.
Young kids driving tractors and balancing on farm machinery. How none of my cousins got killed is a miracle.
