Does anyone remember a show called 'The Swan?' It took perfectly normal looking but insecure women, locked them in a house with no mirrors for a few weeks and gave them a shitload of surgery, dental treatment, hair extensions and so on and put them on a diet. Then after all that they let them look in a mirror and they'd be like THEN they had a big reveal to their families who would also be like AND at the end of a series they had the swan pageant and whoever won the pageant 'won' the series.

I’m not saying it was normal. I’m saying it was seen as ‘ok’ since most of my family members and their friends would drive around uninsured and without licenses before the 21st century.

I questioned my mum about it once and she said “oh everyone did it back then”.

In my first weekend job there was a smoking room for people to use during the week, but it was closed at weekends as there were no cleaners. So people were allowed to smoke at their desks.

15 year old asthmatic me was given a desk next to the window after having an asthma attack.

After decades of asking the question (and many MNers will identify with this) "does my bum look big in this?"
It now seems that young women are striving to have a bum the size of a small town, coupled with a microscopic waist.....
