The Jeremy Kyle Show. Middle class man shouts at poor people who aren’t terribly bright, for not being perfect humans. So pleased it ended.

On X Factor and BGT when they used to show ‘funny’ auditions of people who believed they had talent but really didn’t so got laughed at. They then brought them back for the final to do a humiliating routine live so they could be laughed at more.

Supernanny. Childless woman who can barely speak properly pulls lemon faces, tells parents they’re shit and Instills sudden and sharp changes in the child’s home where actual camera are focussing on them when they’re distraught and upset

Sun sea and suspicious parents. Mum and dad spying on their adult children from a rooftop in Greece whilst said child gets off with a stranger. CREEPY!

Gok Wan filling an empty swimming pool with women in their underwear and turning firehoses on them.

Grim as fuck.

Wasn't he always grabbing womens' fabulous pairs of knockers as well?

upfucked · 30/11/2022 18:08

The show " It ain't half hot mum" . Outrageous racism. They would kick and Insult the Indians , and treated them as less worthy than any white person..

I absolutely loved that programme when I was young. It does seem shocking now.

SweetSakura · 30/11/2022 18:09

Vaping.

Pumping your face /lips full of toxins.

Zofloraqueen27 · 30/11/2022 18:09

Smoking on aeroplanes and in the cinema - you came out of both absolutely stinking.

Lostatseawithnolighthouse · 30/11/2022 18:09

That one of our recent prime minister's described Muslim women as letter boxes as well as his other racist and homophobic diatribes such as tank top bum boys. Vile specimen of a human being.

There was a smoking room in the staff room when I started teaching, in 2006! Unimaginable now- we don't even have a staff room 😂

When I started in 1994 the HeadTeacher openly disapproved of women wearing trousers. Of course I made a point of buying new trousers suits - so I was super, super smart and he couldn't complain about professionalism- and parading past him at every opportunity. Go that 22 year old me! 👏

What does Jo Frost’s lack of children have to do with anything? It doesn’t make her any less qualified a nanny.

I Agree. I think lots of parents could learn from her, plus many teachers don’t have children!

Ted27 · 30/11/2022 18:12

@JenniferAllisonPhillipaSue

ahh - the deoderant thing. Before lockdown, when our office was full to busting and the men in my team were spaying themselves several times a day - someone with asthma was nearly asphixiated by the fumes - I initiated a ban in my team on doing this, to be fair I also asked that if you were going to spend 15 minutes applying full face make up, it should be done in the ladies in your own time - This so incensed the younger people in my team that it led to an allegation of bullying against me

OhYouSillySod · 30/11/2022 18:12

Little Britain, yes agree! Let’s add David Walliams in general to the list..

OneFrenchEgg · 30/11/2022 18:12

Smoking at the back of the plane in the 90s. Wow. Always tried to book a smoking seat! Can't imagine it now.

Snnowflake · 30/11/2022 18:12

the past was sexist and dodgy ( Benny Hill/ Jimmy Saville ) but todays bad imv.

When my eldest was a baby it was still legal to smoke in restaurants etc. Family pubs/restaurants/cafes had a non-smoking section that was just a few tables with no actual barriers etc.

Currently, I can't believe that some people/politicians think it's OK that full time wages are not enough to cover basic rent/bills/food and many working people in the UK rely on food banks to feed their families. And that MPs earning 80k plus have all their travel expenses/parking etc paid and heavily subsidised meals whilst nurses working night shifts have to pay £££ to park at hospitals and we're told we can't afford to extend free school meals to families who are barely getting by.

Discoh · 30/11/2022 18:15

Yup to Supernanny, made even worse when you consider that a lot of the children quite obviously were neurodivergent

BamBamBilla · 30/11/2022 18:17

No fault divorces only allowed since April 2022.

Tiny2018 · 30/11/2022 18:17

Ricky Gervais Extras Christmas special covers a lot of what you mentioned OP, his character Andy Millman is put in the Big Brother house and states that the Victorian Freakshow never went away, how we still drag put the vulnerable and bewildered to be angered at. Excellent series if anyone hasn't seen it.

I'll say the fact that so many people appear apathetic towards the homeless, ignore or even abuse those sleeping rough. I cant get my head around it. I can rarely give them any change anymore as can't really afford to, but even when I cant I still acknowledge them and say I'm sorry I dont have anything.

That there are still homeless people in a Western country in 2022.

Tiny2018 · 30/11/2022 18:18

Echobelly · 30/11/2022 18:18

I was just thinking about this earlier today, words that stil seemed acceptable in around the 80s in my childhood (with warning these might be upsetting for some people) - I remember people using 'half caste' for people with some black heritage and 'mongul' for people with Down Syndrome - and not intended insultingly, just as a descriptor.

Also that people used to laugh and joke about paedophiles as simply 'dirty old men', and just a bit of a joke and 'lucky' (if their targets were teenage girls). I remember the news stories about Bill Wyman dating 13 year old Patsy Smith and they were all 'Phwoar the lucky old devil' and not 'OMG this is appalling!' 😮

Though of course the 80s is ages ago now!

ThatshallotBaby · 30/11/2022 18:19

That naked date show on Channel 4. Naked attraction?
I still can’t quite get my head round that.

Avrenim · 30/11/2022 18:19

Currently....

I'm a celebrity

Venal politicians

Rampant nepotism/cronyism even when people are utterly rubbish at their jobs

That it's just fine for the rich to get richer by the second while the poor can't afford decent food/heating/housing/education and are being told subliminally every second that they don't deserve to exist

Pre-Victorian levels of semi-literacy and numeracy

Unilaterally ignoring the UN warnings about poverty levels in the country

Disregarding the comments of the torture committee at Marston (which I'm fairly sure the government will do)

Worship of money corruption and materialism

Jacob Rees Mogg

Acceptance of levels of vicious cruelty that even Thatcher would have balked at

Just for starters

MooFroo · 30/11/2022 18:19

twerking and ‘modern day’ dance moves in secondary school performance with girls in crop tops and some in very short shorts - older teenage pupils.
lots of men in the audience.

why not have a dress code that preserves modesty and dignity?

Clarabellawilliamson · 30/11/2022 18:05

There was a smoking room in the staff room when I started teaching, in 2006! Unimaginable now- we don't even have a staff room 😂

I can do better (worse?!) than that!

When smoking was banned at our school, in the late 90s, the cleaners were employed by someone else and most of them smoked. So their store room was subject to a different vote, and they voted to allow smoking. All the kids that smoked used to go to the cleaners storeroom at break and the teachers allowed it!!

I think the thing that bothers me most is that kids - especially girls - being regarded as promiscuous / 'leading on' grown men when actually, they were being groomed and abused. Often in plain sight and no one taking any action to safeguard them. And it still happens.
