Things in RECENT times you can’t quite believe we’re seen as ‘ok’

The Jeremy Kyle Show. Middle class man shouts at poor people who aren’t terribly bright, for not being perfect humans. So pleased it ended.

On X Factor and BGT when they used to show ‘funny’ auditions of people who believed they had talent but really didn’t so got laughed at. They then brought them back for the final to do a humiliating routine live so they could be laughed at more.

Supernanny. Childless woman who can barely speak properly pulls lemon faces, tells parents they’re shit and Instills sudden and sharp changes in the child’s home where actual camera are focussing on them when they’re distraught and upset

Sun sea and suspicious parents. Mum and dad spying on their adult children from a rooftop in Greece whilst said child gets off with a stranger. CREEPY!

There was a smoking room in the staff room when I started teaching, in 2006! Unimaginable now- we don't even have a staff room 😂

We had a smoking room at 6th form college for us students ( late 80s)

Tiredallofthetime · 30/11/2022 18:23

I know what you mean with the TV shows.

I think we’ve moved to a gentler and kinder era of TV like GBBO.

Smacking - I know some people do it but by and large it is disapproved of.

caroleanboneparte · 30/11/2022 18:23

Honey, we're killing the kids.

Unsurprisingly it's never repeated.

They used tech at the time to show what the kids would look like as adults if they kept eating junk/ not exercising.

The families actually seemed better off by the end but those images of the kids will stick forever. It was very poverty shaming.

latetothefisting · 30/11/2022 18:27

It's ok to mock people with strong regional accents and suggest that means they shouldn't be on TV, then, OP?

Nottodaysausage · 30/11/2022 18:28

Only fans - pornography used to be raggedy old magazines stuffed under hedges.
Mixed toilets - my year 5 and year six dd have to share with the boys in their class because 'discrimination' apparently

Walkbyall · 30/11/2022 18:30

People eating kangaroos penis etc etc on I’m a Celebrity for our entertainment

Aishah231 · 30/11/2022 18:32

People being demonised and banned from travelling because they won't agree to being injected with an untested experimental and totally pointless (unless you're CEV) drug.

maddiemookins16mum · 30/11/2022 18:34

Tbf Jo Frost has many, many years experience and a lot of the parents were fecking ridiculous. Just because she hasn’t pushed a wain out of her fanjo doesn’t mean she does not speak common sense.

Rowthe · 30/11/2022 18:34

Visible thongs

It used to be fashionable to let the top of your thong be on show when you bent over.

Redandblue96 · 30/11/2022 18:36

@CraigDavid Years ago they were perceived to be common if on show.

I remember thinking when the Russians shot down that passenger plane on the border of Ukraine in 2014 how on earth they got away with murdering all those people. Maybe if someone had stood up to them then, or even when they annexed Crimea, then they wouldn't have felt emboldened enough to invade properly.

Davros · 30/11/2022 18:37

When I worked in a hospital 2001-2003, there was a smoking room in the canteen. All glass so you could see all the doctors and nurses in there 🚬

RambamThankyouMam · 30/11/2022 18:38

Letting teenage girls have their breasts removed in the name of gender ideology.

100ML · 30/11/2022 18:38

Has it ever occurred to you that in 20 or 30 years time, people may be looking back at you and all of your opinions and thinking something similar?

Same. My mum had flown that flight number/route with Malaysian Airlines only a few weeks earlier. I kept thinking how easily it could’ve been her, and felt heartbroken for the relatives. It’s outrageous that the bastards did it are still at large.

Currently that rich people can buy a baby from a poorer ‘surrogate’ (who IMO is the actual mother regardless of where the egg came from, since her body built every single cell in the baby’s body) or pressure female family members into doing it for them. Vile.

DrekIsLonelikk · 30/11/2022 18:40

Weekly magazines that had a “ring of shame”, shaming celebrities for having (gasp) belly rolls, cellulite and stretch marks.

And him making some of the kids sit on his knee! Eurgh!

...waits to hear what's wrong with visible bra straps...

Bras are underwear, emphasis on the ‘under’. Ie. They were worn beneath your clothing, not being on shown.

Confused Obviously. Society is always evolving. Why would it still be the same in 20 years from now?

TerribleLanding · 30/11/2022 18:41

Telling boys they can be girls and girls they can be boys. And boys and girls that they can be neither a boy or a girl. And everyone being told it’s transphobic if they don’t go along with that. Puberty blockers, hormones, trans ideology. The amount of people who go along with it all. 🤯

Parents being allowed to vlog their children’s every waking hour. Children can’t give consent no matter how much these parents tell us the kids want to do it and be all over YouTube or tiktok.

I’m a celeb. They used to eat live bugs. They still exploit the creatures they use, some must be scared or hurt.

The way farm animals are treated.

Chris Moyles countdown to Charlotte Church being 16 and the comments he made. Lots of people found it funny. 🤔

Benefit Street type programmes that exploit people.

DrekIsLonelikk · 30/11/2022 18:41

Paparazzi being able to take photos up young women’s skirts.

Ringmaster27 · 30/11/2022 18:41

Using hairspray to set make up!
When I was 17/18, four or five girls all getting ready together, the bedroom would be like a hot box of toxic, flammable fumes while everyone had a cheeky fag out of the window. 😳🤯

donttellmehesalive · 30/11/2022 18:42

I remember smoking in planes. Back three rows I think. People in the fourth row were magically immune.

Other things include your boss slapping your bum, casually dropping litter (even from say a whole picnic) and sending little kids out to play from dawn til dusk.
