AIBU to be grinchy about Christmas guestlist

My siblings and I are all in our twenties. I still live at home.

My 24yo DB has a LOT of work to do on himself as to why his relationships are so toxic, why he's so controlling etc. It's been a revolving door of girlfriends and the common pattern is they're isolated here. For example there was a woman on working holiday visa. Now it's a Ukranian refugee that none of us have met. They've only been together for a few months.

I was really looking forward to Christmas Day at our house with just our family.

Apparently DB is bringing his GF. AIBU to not feel comfortable spending Christmas lunch with someone who is a stranger to me?

I know the answer is - it's my mum's house and totally up to her who attends. But am I grinchy to be unhappy about it? Family think I'm really horrible as she's a Ukrainian refugee.

Seems to me like the problem is more your brother never helping out, rather than him bringing his girlfriend, who has no other alternatives on the day.

Thats the issue.

@stuntbubbles Hehehehheh.

And that's very true.

"Because in all honestly I wouldn't have an issue if it was a colleague or elderly neighbour or someone we'd met through a charity etc"

I think I'm getting a clearer picture of the situation now and can see how you feel.

But you still need to welcome her unfortunately - as PPs have said, it's the season of goodwill to all men after all.

Many years ago I spent New Year with my now DH's family. We had been seeing each other a matter of weeks and I was in a different country and didn't speak their language.

It was awkward! But the point is that I became part of that family and this girl may too.

She may not but even my brother in law who went through girlfriend after girlfriend for 20 years settle down eventually (it became a joke, is this the one? How long will this one last?)
