to consider letting my 8 year odl leave school early today - for no good reason?

We had dental appt at 3. Dentist is in the next county (yes, COUNTY) along a horrible A road. When weather bad, lorries regularly tip over and the raod is often closed due to weather.

It is extremely windy/haily today and so I've rearranged appt for next week. However - school think she's leaving at 2 to go to dentist, now I've cancelled I'm toying with still collecting her at 2 and bringing her home to bake chocolate muffins with me an DS (age 3) and snuggle up in front of the fire.

Its a bad idea isn't it

I think its a great idea. Its that hour with you she will remember, not another hours spent at school

georgedontdothat · 31/01/2008 13:41

No not at all

Yanbu

lazarou · 31/01/2008 13:41

That is a brilliant idea, do it.

BabiesEverywhere · 31/01/2008 13:42

Sounds lovely thing to do with your children...send any spare chocolate muffins my way

ibelieveindreaming · 31/01/2008 13:45

YANBU, I'm sure she will be very pleased.

NAB3wishesfor2008 · 31/01/2008 13:45

How will you explain another dentist appointment next week?

MamaG · 31/01/2008 13:45

oh thats surprising! THought I'd get jumped on

Right-o, muffins it is

OP posts:
IdrisTheDragon · 31/01/2008 13:46

Might the school wonder why she has another appointment next week?

MamaG · 31/01/2008 13:46

oh yes NAB, good point.

Ummmm I think I'll just tell them we couldn't get there due to weather. That we set off and then changed our minds (or something)

OR I'll jsut send another note in and not expalin anything

OP posts:
Alambil · 31/01/2008 13:50

call it a "follow up" !

Brilliant idea IMO; get baking!

NAB3wishesfor2008 · 31/01/2008 13:52

But then your child will have to lie.

MamaG · 31/01/2008 13:52

oh bum. What shall I say then NAB?

OP posts:
NAB3wishesfor2008 · 31/01/2008 13:53

Ring the school and say the appointment has been moved until next week and enjoy another hour of MN.

MamaG · 31/01/2008 13:53

I think I'll just send a note in next wek saying "appt at dentist etc etc"

I'll tell DD to say we didn't go becuase of the weather. She won't be lying then!

OP posts:
LadyMuck · 31/01/2008 13:55

But if she leaves school at 3:30 or whenever, can't she still come home and bake chocolate muffins? They don't take that long?

Seems odd that it is an either/or really?

LardyMardyDaisy · 31/01/2008 13:55

Not unreasonable at all....tell them it's a follow up and get baking!

I kept my DS off for two days last week as I'd said he'd be off all week as we were away at a family funeral. We got home a few days earlier than anticipated but I didn't send him in as they weren't expecting him. We had a couple pof nice days curled in front of the TV, baking, making and playing PS2 games. It was great fun!

MaryAnnSingleton · 31/01/2008 13:57

sorry, but bad idea - it shows that school doesn't matter and you can waft off and do something else if you like...

TREBUCHET · 31/01/2008 13:59

Kids lie all the time anyway, whats one more?! Enjoy yourselves x

ok ok you got me
I've phoned school and we will bake AFTER school

OP posts:
amidaiwish · 31/01/2008 14:01

she is 8, not 13.

do it.
have fun!
you don't have to make a big deal/secret of it with her so you're not showing her "school doesn't matter" imo.

MaryAnnSingleton · 31/01/2008 14:02

good - well done and happy baking - they'll taste nicer for it !

Wisteria · 31/01/2008 14:03

MamaG- well done, it would have been unreasonable and given your dd the wrong message about work ethics and honesty etc IMHO.

Am also amazed you didn't get shot down in flames

MaryAnnSingleton · 31/01/2008 14:04

it does show that school doesn't matter if you can just leave whenever you feel like it - even though op didn't deliberately decide to do it
