AIBU?

To refuse to take DD to the cinema to see this film

Because I don’t want to see it. DD is absolutely dying to see the new Matilda the Musical film but none of her friends also want to see and she doesn’t want to go alone so she’s begging me to go with her but I don’t really want to see the film to be honest. DD is 16. I know why she really wants to see it, because years ago she played Matilda in the west end musical show.

Am I being unreasonable?

I’m taking my 17 nearly 18 year old we hardly get time together. Why wouldn’t you take her?

Stealth boast, OP? 😉

I’d take her.

You might even enjoy it!

Just started a thread about this exact thing 😂

Do you really only go to kids films you enjoy? 😂

I’ve lost count of the films I took my DD to when she was younger that weren’t my thing.

Surely as a parent that’s just what you do.

Next time your daughter wants to do ANYTHING with you, just stop and think about how fucking lucky you are.

This is quite clearly a troll. What a load of crap.

Wait until you have grandchildren and you have to sit/sleep through some horrendous stuff, I actually did fall asleep during Beauty and the Beast! I also recall going with a daughter to see Titanic, For God's sake, just bloody sink, I was thinking after half and hour.

It's lovely that she wants to go with her. I don't understand why you don't want to, isn't it nice that she wants to go with you? Enjoy her company even if you don't want to see the film . I think it looks very good though!

Same thing here today with Dd also 16 and I’d take her except I want to watch the footie.
Her dad’s taking her at 8 😆

Did you particularly want to watch any kids movies that you took them to see at the cinema in the past?

Report

TheatreTaxi · 26/11/2022 19:04

Children don't just end up as a lead in a West End show without an over-invested stage mum right behind them.

Actually they do. The over-invested stage mums are a minority, thankfully.

@DinosaursCanDance if your DD is 16 and played Matilda years ago she was probably in it around the same time as my DS, so we may well know each other 😂

If this is fake, you have some significant problems.

if this is real, you have some significant problems.

I have sat through hours of bloody Marvel films because my DS loves them and asks me to go with him. He hasn't even been in the stage version 😁.

What a strange post! A better one would have been, “My daughter played Matilda in the West End years ago and I was so proud. She’s 16 now and we’re going to see the film tonight, so excited!”

Glad you decided to go!

@antelopevalley @MissBattleaxe I have teenagers. Getting enough sleep is no longer an issue. I wouldn't nap in a cinema now.

Mine are too. Didn't stop me nodding off in the middle of Grindlewald and the Secrets of Dumbledore or whatever it was. Belly full of Ben & Jerrys. Fab!

Report

antelopevalley · 26/11/2022 19:35

@MissBattleaxe Glad you enjoyed it.
I can't nap unless I am sleep deprived.

I just had to endure it with my daughter this evening. So much singing. Song after song. Nowhere near as good as the original. I'm hungover. BUT my daughter was desperate to watch it so I sucked it up and took her

Ifyoudreamofsanddunes · 26/11/2022 19:38

Oh sorry, just seen you've booked for tonight. Should have read the full thread 🙄 Well done, get a seat by the wall and hopefully you can have a little nap through it. Second to last song is good

Fantastic parent you are aren’t you? There’s plenty of things I didn’t want to do with my boys but would I post on mumsnet about the fact that I didn’t want to go? No I would take them in a heartbeat. Grow up and be a mom

It is sad you don’t want to spend time with your daughter and do something she wants to do

Report

Solonge · 26/11/2022 19:42

Just do it.....Jeez.....I would go with my forty something daughter if she wanted to see it....be selfless.
