AIBU?

To refuse to take DD to the cinema to see this film

Because I don’t want to see it. DD is absolutely dying to see the new Matilda the Musical film but none of her friends also want to see and she doesn’t want to go alone so she’s begging me to go with her but I don’t really want to see the film to be honest. DD is 16. I know why she really wants to see it, because years ago she played Matilda in the west end musical show.

Am I being unreasonable?

It's such a pain when this happens. My DD wanted to watch The Crown because she used to be Kate Middleton.

😂😂

So many teenagers wouldn't be seen dead with their mums so a lot of women would jump at this chance! (I would anyway) Doesn't matter if the film is shite, just relish this quality time with your child because she'll be flying the nest soon!

Of course you should go . I sit through many a film just for my Ds and I even end up enjoying some of them . Even those I don’t , it’s worth it to make him happy .

Unless you’re going to drip-feed that it will be triggering to you because you’re not over the trauma of her living away when she played Matilda or something, just be nice to your teen and take her.

You don’t need to love the movie, you only need to love your DD.

It’s what two hours of your life that would bring her joy.
We did it when they were babies, they still need this as teens.

Just go and don’t complain.

Your 16 year old want to do something with you? Do it! It won't be long u till she doesnt and you will miss these opportunities. Its a few hours out of your life I cant see any real reason for you to say no.

My youngest wanted to see Wicked for 16th Birthday, it wasn't my thing at all, but as said it was nice that she wanted to do something with me. At 18 she still wanted to go away with me, but since then (now 25), other than the odd shopping/movie day, I've been ditched.

I don't believe this is real. What kind of absolute misery wouldn't want to go to the movies with their kid? Is there a drip feed?

I'd like to see this, I'll go with her.

You must be really proud of her op.

I’ll go with her, I’d love to see it.

I'm so sorry that it looks like you're being strong-armed into watching a musical. I would hate it too... but you probably should go. Take earplugs and an eyemask and try to sleep?

Why can't she go by herself, if she is 16? You could drop her off and pick her up if cinema is out of town. I wouldn't go to see it either; I thought the book was utter tripe.

Awww you sound like such a ray of sunshine, OP.

Why wouldn’t you want to spend time with your daughter? This is so sad. Even if you can’t stand it, it’s 2 hours out your life. Who cares if it’s full of kids. It probably won’t be, but so what if it is?!

WeeOrcadian · 26/11/2022 17:10

Don't take her. She won't want to even give you the time of day soon enough, fuck her.

I wonder how often the OP mentioned the fact the her DD was in Matilda at the time!

I can’t see any reason for you starting this thread other than to say “ my daughter used to be in Matilda you know!”

At our cinema they have the comfy recliner seats so I’d take her and have a good snooze!

She wants to go to the odeon luxe further away just for these seats as the nearer cinema has normal seats and not recliner.

I saw it today with my 7 year old- it was great. You sound really harsh, your poor dd

Your 16 year old wants to do something with you and spend time with you and instead of just doing it, you’re going to waste the same amount of time posting about it on an Internet forum for attention. Get off your phone and go to the film.

I can't believe this is a real post. But then my 17 year old niece is waiting to hear if her mum has passed away or survived traumatic surgery, so my viewpoint might be a bit skewed
