England Taking The Knee

Thoughts on the team taking the knee??

I'm in no way racist, I don't care what colour someone's skin is, I have and always will judge people as people, but this really gets to me and I don't agree with the whole knee thing.

What do you think?

I wish I could show all of you the smile on my son's face when I told him that the reason they were on their knees was because they want his bullies to know that it's not OK to say horrible things about his skin. Football is part of our culture. It's huge. Racism has also sadly become part of our culture and is a massive issue, particularly when it comes to football. I can't believe people are even arguing about it. It's perfectly fine to think it is a pointless gesture. If that's how you feel, then fine, but it shouldn't be 'getting to people' or upsetting people to the point that they're attacking others because of it. I really despair sometimes.

This shows absolutely the worth of people with influence showing where they stand on an issue.

I couldn't give a toss what all of the people-who-like-to-call-others-snowflakes-whilst-acting-totally-butthurt-themselves think, if it makes just one child feel better about the World, it's worth doing.

This!!

If it was meaningless why does it create so many discussions

if it’s meaningless it wouldn’t bother you

it means something that’s why it bothers you, it means something that it has raised awareness, it means something when people show unity against an issue many never have to give a second thought to

Mapletreelane · 21/11/2022 20:09

I really cannot understand why people feel offended about it.

They are taking a stand against something awful and highlighting the issue globally. It's not hurting anyone by taking the knee.

If you have a problem with it you are part of the problem.

Exactly. It's a 5 second, peaceful protest.

Where's the harm?

Out of curiosity, how do you judge people?

candywoo · 21/11/2022 21:12

PurpleButterflyWings · 21/11/2022 16:29

YANBU @JimmyKrankie .

I disagree with it too, because the original idea of it came about after what happened with George Floyd. It was for white people to beg forgiveness, and apologise, for every bad thing that white people have ever done to non-white people.

I have never done anything bad, or said anything bad, to any non-white person, and I have never treated them any differently to a white person - because of the colour of their skin.

So I will NEVER 'take the knee,' because I have never done anything to apologise for. I will not beg forgiveness for something I haven't done.

Agreed

I certainly do think white lives matter as my children, my parents and my husband are white. So, yes white lives matter just as much as any black life. Not more, not less but the same.

👏👏

...

You think only the white players are forced to bow down to the black players. Yep, no black players doing it. They just make the white ones get down and all the black players stand up.Hmm
Way to make it about yourself, nobody wants your forgiveness.

Plus this was around long before George floyd. Not sure if the relevance of that anyway, and why that makes it so terribly off-putting.

Lonelycrab · 21/11/2022 21:37

Pretty much sums up all the apologists on this thread.

Lndnmummy · 21/11/2022 21:47

@MNHQ of all the posts on this thread, you delete
mine. Could you explain why? And as per my previous messages to you. Are there any black moderators of this thread?

I don't understand why taking the knee is allowed but wearing an armband isn't

Ah. You dont follow football..do you?

Alex Scott - A Black woman - is wearing a One Love Rainbow Armband.

Do you know who Alex Scott is...?

No.one

MNMH · 21/11/2022 22:04

So because you'd stand for the flag, everyone else should? Does freedom of expression only apply when it's in your favour?

Hont1986 · 21/11/2022 22:58

Did you even read the page you linked? It says in literally the first paragraph "This unorthodox practice, taking a knee, was sparked by Colin Kaepernick, the former San Francisco 49ers quarterback, who took a knee." It mentions Martin Luther King kneeling to pray, which is not the same thing as this. Yes, other people have kneeled at various points in history, Colin did not invent the concept of kneeling.

JimmyKrankie · 21/11/2022 15:14

To me, it's just virtue signalling.

Virtue signalling? As opposed to signalling no virtues or morals?

Why is virtue 'signalling' a bad thing?

I read people all the time going on about 'virtue signalling' as if it's somehow a 'bad' thing to signal morals and virtues. I'd rather virtue signal than not virtue signal. Same as the term 'do gooder'. I'd rather be a do gooder than a do badder.

I agree, people on here trot out the "virtue signalling" line whenever anyone makes a stand or speaks out against something without instantly solving the problem all by themselves.

Babdoc · 21/11/2022 18:45

I think it is a nice gesture of solidarity from the white team members to their black colleagues, and makes clear that they disapprove of any racist chants by fans.
However, I was more impressed by the brave Iranian team refusing to sing their own national anthem in protest at the oppressive regime killing unarmed women and children. They will face the wrath of the mullahs and possible arrest when they get home.

I agree. They were brave. I don't think there's much real point to taking the knee, but it's harmless, so it makes no odds.

To be honest, if England continue to get that sort of score line , I wouldn't think most supporters could care less what they do prior to a match.⚽️

🤮🤮

Why does it make you sick if I say my white children's lives matter equally to a black life?

Don't come out with shite like White Privilege because that is a lazy, sloppy and -many time-s plain untrue slogan to shut people down who ask why black lives matter more than white.

My white life, my child's white life, my mother's white life, my husband's white life, my friends' white lives are equally important and no shitty slogan will make me think otherwise and it is distressing to see that saying white and black lives matter equally make you sick.

What is your agenda?
