Hi! First thread here. I'm (F/29) attending a close friends hen do, there's 9 of us staying in a large, swanky cottage (pool, hot tub, sauna, etc.) The bedrooms are made up of multiple king size/double rooms and there's one small room with a bunk bed (designed for kids) and pull-out single (mattress on the floor). I can't express how different this room is to the others, imagine an empty room, with tiny kids bunks and a mattress, that's the extent of it. No wardrobe, no cosy lighting, etc.

Each person has paid approx. £300 for a 2 night stay, including a stripper at the venue and food. Alcohol will have to be purchased separately...
Everyone has been placed in double/king sized rooms (some are sharing, but others not), all with ensuits, however, I've been assigned (without discussion) the small room on my own, without bathroom (will use the "family" shared bathroom). I feel this anger, that I'm paying the same as everyone else, they're all in 5* luxury beds with their own bathrooms and I'm on a pull-out style frame/matress on the floor.

I'm most frustrated that it wasn't even discussed with me, just assigned/assumed I'd take that room. I've briefly raised it with the organiser and she's stated she offered the largest rooms to those sharing (mostly siblings/mums with daughters) and the other two people who aren't sharing (like me), one is pregnant and the other is mother of the stag. Am I unreasonable to still feel upset and not want to be in the tiny bedroom with mattress on the floor? If she feels too embarrassed to allocate that room to MIL, or to herself even, why should I be in there?
I'm really not sure where to go from here, but I'm feeling VERY bitter about it al.

Haven't RTFT but has anyone suggested if you don't get a refund, buy a much cheaper wedding present?

LoisLane22 · 21/11/2022 14:39

I'd rather have a basic room to myself than have to share one of the other rooms and a bed with another hen, potentially someone I don't even know very well.

Tanyaaah · 21/11/2022 14:40

At least you can fart in bed, that's priceless.

roarfeckingroarr · 21/11/2022 14:40

I think you're being really petty.

It's two nights. It's not a big deal. The reasoning makes total sense - you're not sharing a room, nor pregnant.

Iguanainanigloo · 21/11/2022 14:41

I understand the reasoning, but it's not fair this wasn't discussed prior to just allocating the rooms. A simple message in the group to say, one of the single rooms is actually smaller, no ensuite etc, so in light of this, whoever is happy to take the room, can have it at a reduced cost. You're currently subsidising their swanky rooms, by paying the same for a shit one. Whoever then was happy to take the "crap room", could have paid £100/£50 less which should have been chipped in for by the others, (£10/5 per person would cover this) so you're not subsidising their holiday.

rookiemere · 21/11/2022 14:42

As someone who has done shared properties before, it's not a great surprise to me that there is one rubbish room.

We used to go away with two other families to 6 bedroom villas, and as the family with an only DC, we always got the crap sixth bedroom for DS - paying the same as the other 2 families. Oh and paying the same at mealtimes as well. I enjoyed the holidays, but towards the last one I started to feel a bit hard done by.

In this case, it depends what you want the outcome to be. If someone asked me to pay extra and I was sharing a bed, I'd cheerfully offer to swap with you instead.

It's hard organising these things so everybody has exactly the same, so I probably would just go with the flow.

PickyEaters · 21/11/2022 14:44

She was wrong not to consult you beforehand but you need to take it in good grace, otherwise you are going to come out of this looking really bad!

Northe · 21/11/2022 14:44

Surely you should expect to pay more for a room alone than you would to share a (albeit swankier) room? It sounds like you have a good deal.

Thurst · 21/11/2022 14:45

You’ve said the people sharing are sharing with family so who is the ‘close friend’ you would have wanted to share with? If they are part of the mother daughter duo that’s ridiculous to expect them to share with you rather than their own family.
Does the organiser change less to those sharing? Less to those without an en-suite? What about someone whose room just not as nice? What percentage is given off the room fee for shit curtains? My point is it’s too hard to start offering different prices. She likely wasn’t aware quite how different the rooms were when they made the booking.
It’s a hen do, get pissed and take the stick out of your arse.

SherbetDips · 21/11/2022 14:46

At my friends hen I shared with the bride. We had mattress on the floor. We didn’t care we were too busy having fun.

CremeDeSudo · 21/11/2022 14:46

I'd be a bit miffed too, but you'll probably have a better sleep in that room on your own!

MissHavershamReturns · 21/11/2022 14:47

Allocating was fair. Her way of communication on it was not

CrampMcBastard · 21/11/2022 14:48

I thought this was going to be a thread about Jordan Henderson.

BoogieBoogieWoogie · 21/11/2022 14:48

BlackberryCat · 21/11/2022 14:11

If nobody wanted it, because it's so crap, the draw would decide who got it

But, didn't you say that a lot of people were sharing with family members?

The family members can share the bunk bed, as according to so many on here its no great hardship

notanothertakeaway · 21/11/2022 14:48

slavetoendo · 21/11/2022 14:30

I agree, all rooms should be of the same standard if you are all paying the same, the organiser should have booked accommodation accordingly.

@slavetoendo In an ideal world, yes all rooms would be same standard. But, unless you go to a hotel, rooms won't be identical

And it's really hard factoring in everyone's preferences for budget, location, quality of accommodation etc. If OP's room had been left empty, no doubt someone would complain that the organiser booked a house for 12 when there are only 10 people, and it's a waste to have a room that's not being used. Honestly, you just can't suit everybody all the time

fannyfartlet · 21/11/2022 14:49

Pull the stripper and take him back to your room to shag on the floor.

MorrisZapp · 21/11/2022 14:49

There is no bed configuration on earth where the bed is too small but the mattress that slides out from under it is a normal single.

How would that work?

LuciferRising · 21/11/2022 14:49

I don't understand why you think MIL should have the room? She is part of the wedding party and a special event for her. And the person who organised this, has put the effort in and is sharing. Did you make any of the arrangements or help out?

And you also mentioned others are sharing with family members. Would you prefer to share with them?

BabyMoonPie · 21/11/2022 14:52

CrampMcBastard · 21/11/2022 14:48

I thought this was going to be a thread about Jordan Henderson.

Me too!

PollyAmour · 21/11/2022 14:53

I thought it was about endometriosis.

I would hate to share a room with a random, and I would hate to go to a hen do that included a stripper 😱

Friendlyear22 · 21/11/2022 14:56

tbh - it’s annoying. But these things are a mare to organise. She is doing her best. It’s not your hen and a luxury bed is not why you are doing it. If you haven’t got anyone to share with.. then there aren’t many options it sounds. I would prioritise the hen and making sure she has fun

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 21/11/2022 14:57

I'd be more pissed off laying 300quid ans having to share a bed with someone.

Alohamo · 21/11/2022 14:59

Someone always ends up with the crap room unfortunately. At least you get your own space and don't have to share a bed or room with someone you don't know who could be a snorer! That said i was so unimpressed the time I went on a hen do when DS was 8 months old, it was my first night away from him and I was looking forward to a proper night of sleep and a lie to find that I was on a shared sofa bed in the main living room which couldn't be used until everyone else had gone to bed.

ExtraOnions · 21/11/2022 15:00

Hot Tub & Stripper … I’d give you £300 not to go

Alohamo · 21/11/2022 15:00

I said no to the hen do where they had hired a cottage which slept 6. I looked it up on line and asked where the other 12 people on the hen do would
