Is your heating on yet?

It’s Saturday night, I’m bored so I thought a quick poll would be fun.

We’ve still not put our heating on yet this year. We’ve got gloves, thick fuzzy blankets and socks on in bed. I’m not sure why.

I think my other half asked whether we should put the heating on in mid-September and my response was, “Well, I’m plenty warm still but if you’re cold, then just put it on.”

Now we’re stuck in some sort of detente, in the Yorkshire Dales, where neither of us wants to be the first one that breaks. 😂

How about you guys? Toasty warm with the heating on or styling it out with Snuggies and hot chocolate?

YABU - We’re sane. The heating is on.
YANBU - WE are the gods of winter! Heating off.

It's been on for weeks, usually set at 23 degrees.

girlmom21 · 19/11/2022 21:44

We keep the house at about 18 degrees

ImHavingACrisis · 19/11/2022 21:45

I don’t get this question. Don’t people just put their heating on as and when they feel cold or do some people actually have their heating on everyday all day long?

I started turning my heating on a few weeks ago but only usually in the morning and evenings to warm the living room up a bit

YouCantBeSadHoldingACupcake · 19/11/2022 21:45

Ours is off, but we're in the south east so it hasn't really been that cold yet.

InTheMiddle23 · 19/11/2022 21:45

We're the same. I can't see us putting it on before December. It's still pretty mild.

dementedpixie · 19/11/2022 21:46

We have a timer and thermostat so it has kicked in every so often. I dont have a tumble drier so need heat sometimes to dry washing

Wowzel · 19/11/2022 21:46

It comes on and off as required - set to 19.

It's 3 degrees outside and so the heating has come on

Lcb123 · 19/11/2022 21:46

Had it on low (18)a few times to get laundry dry. Haven’t felt the need for it on otherwise! Luckily well insulated flat in london, don’t like it being too warm

ThisMeetingCouldHaveBeenAnEmail · 19/11/2022 21:47

Off but south west of England

Michiru · 19/11/2022 21:48

Of course it has been. Outside today was 4C at night and 8C during the day. Clothes were on the washing line outside all day but, for the first time, some bits were still damp when I took them in.

The house got down to 14C three times during the day, so yes, it got heated.

I usually get it back up to 17-18C.

dementedpixie · 19/11/2022 21:48

I'm in Scotland so sometimes it's been under 10⁰C outside so the heating has sometimes been triggered to go on

TheDuchessOfMN · 19/11/2022 21:48

Yes, since mid October or so

NewBootsAndRanty · 19/11/2022 21:49

Its been on since the end of September, mostly at 18°.

For the first time in a decade, the flat underneath mine is vacant this autumn/winter - I'm realising how much I used to benefit from my neighbour having the heating on full whack 24/7.

FiveShelties · 19/11/2022 21:49

I would rather give in than have gloves, socks and fuzzy blankets on in bed.

JackTorrance · 19/11/2022 21:50

Yes for weeks now. I've been having it lower than I'd ideally like though but I can't bear being cold at home.

Oysterbabe · 19/11/2022 21:50

Ours is never really 'off'. If it's cold enough it clicks on.

Marmite27 · 19/11/2022 21:50

We’ve not had the heating on, but today have discovered the condensation on the external front walls. The dehumidifier has been plugged in, and the heating will probably need to be on longer and higher.

BakedTattie · 19/11/2022 21:51

“I’m in the north east/west engerland and I’ve got ice on the inside of windows, despite my dh smoking in bed, 4 million blankets, going to McDonald’s for hours on end. It’s the facking government not insulating my windaws”

but yea. North Scotland. Got my heating on at 19.

babysgotthespends · 19/11/2022 21:51

Today. I was feeling cold and miserable all day. Then I put the central heating and everything felt better Smile

Reluctantadult · 19/11/2022 21:51

Our house is 16 or 17 degrees without it and I find it unpleasant. Working from home I already have a jumper, wool poncho, fingerless gloves, plug in heater if needed. In bed have winter duvet, blanket, hot water bottle, decent pj's. No where else to go really! So heating set on 19 degrees and put the wood burner on a few times in the evenings. Heating cost is offset against savings of commuting though for me.

WeAreAllLionesses · 19/11/2022 21:51

No - we are under blankets or heated blankets here.

I think we'll turn it on when we need to dry clothes.

kitcat15 · 19/11/2022 21:52

Had it on once since last winter.....we have a l9g burner that heats the back room and kitchen ( we get free logs) ....Will put it on Christmas day and the days my mum is here ( shes 86) .....other than that it will have to get a lot colder before we turn radiators on ...I'm NW

Doobydoo · 19/11/2022 21:52

We have a coal fire that heats radiators and provides hot water. We do have an an electric boiler for hot water in summer. Yes it has been on.

Fireballxl5 · 19/11/2022 21:52

We have a log burner, it gets lit late afternoon atm and has done for 2 weeks.
However I live in France where a m3 of logs is only €65. We don’t have mains gas.
In August we buy 8m3 of logs which is ample to keep warm for the winter.

edwinbear · 19/11/2022 21:53

Ours is off, not sure what the temp is in the house, but London so I expect milder than lots of places. I do have a ski base layer, fleece and an old sailing jumper on though - plus a blanket.
