Is your heating on yet?

It’s Saturday night, I’m bored so I thought a quick poll would be fun.

We’ve still not put our heating on yet this year. We’ve got gloves, thick fuzzy blankets and socks on in bed. I’m not sure why.

I think my other half asked whether we should put the heating on in mid-September and my response was, “Well, I’m plenty warm still but if you’re cold, then just put it on.”

Now we’re stuck in some sort of detente, in the Yorkshire Dales, where neither of us wants to be the first one that breaks. 😂

How about you guys? Toasty warm with the heating on or styling it out with Snuggies and hot chocolate?

YABU - We’re sane. The heating is on.
YANBU - WE are the gods of winter! Heating off.

Yes, 20 during the day and 18 at night.

This article was on the BBC today showing the effects of a cold room on your body. Increases heart rate and blood pressure, decreases brain function. Very bad for anyone susceptible to strokes, heart disease, dementia, etc.

Ours is never really 'off'. If it's cold enough it clicks on.

Same here. I don't get the interest in other people's heating, especially as temperatures vary geographically.

plinkplinkfizzer · 19/11/2022 21:54

Funnily enough we've just agreed to put it on for 1/2 hr . Watching the pennies in this house . We have not really had it on in the evening 'til now .

LaughingCat · 19/11/2022 21:54

Ooohhh…glad to see some are still holding out due to the mildness! I’ve just tested with the digital thermometer and it reckons it is 15.6 degrees here in the kitchen…I still think that‘s plenty high enough to hold out! We’ve still got the hot water bottle stage to get through, right?

Ours is off, but I am sat infront of a coal fire and the Rayburn is keeping the kitchen warm plus supplying hot water.

duvetdeb · 19/11/2022 21:55

its still 18 inside here without heating on. i'm fine, dh is not, he can put the heating on if he wants. i grew up layering up before the heating was allowed to go on, his life was a bit easier.

NewBootsAndRanty · 19/11/2022 21:56

It's 6° outside at the moment (the bbc weather page says it feels like 3°) and forecast to go down to 2° here tomorrow night.

Spoodee · 19/11/2022 21:56

Nope. Can't afford it. My electric has gone mental.

We are all in pj's, blankets, Oodies, hot water bottles, 3 pairs of socks...

justanotherlaura · 19/11/2022 21:56

We wouldn't usually have it on but we have a 3 week old baby. The house gets down to 14 sometimes, far too cold for baby and he can't use the electric blanket like we usually do!

XenoBitch · 19/11/2022 21:56

I just caved and put it on for 30 min. House now 16, but I am comfortable in that.

AppleandSpice · 19/11/2022 21:56

Today was the first day I’ve had it on for a few hours. I just couldn’t get warm my legs were like ice despite moving around. Up until today we’ve just put it on for half hour or so, now and again just to take the chill off.

vcameob · 19/11/2022 21:56

Been on since mid sept

TalkisChips · 19/11/2022 21:57

Yes as at times it’s got down to 13° and be been cold. I turn it on for a couple of hours in the evening maybe up to 16/17 then turn it off.

No - it shows the effects of a cold room when you're not wearing enough clothes.

feministqueen · 19/11/2022 21:58

Midlands here. Ours comes on for an hour or so in the morning and same in the evening. It's not cold here yet. I have a blanket when I'm working at home or sitting on the sofa which is no different than any other winter. Our thermostat is set at 19c - any warmer than that is too warm for me

BamBamBilla · 19/11/2022 21:58

Yes has been for weeks. I can manage the bills but if it came to it I'd go into debt before I go cold.

lightand · 19/11/2022 21:58

Definitely on.

I would give up just about anything before i give up on heat.

I would get ill quite quickly without it.
And cant function properly without it.

LaughingCat · 19/11/2022 21:58

Definitely too cold for a little one! If we had kids or we were older, we wouldn’t stint on the heating. Absolutely the right thing to do!

Honeyroar · 19/11/2022 21:59

We put it on the odd hour or so to dry clothes if we need to. But we’re lucky we have a log burner and I’m menopausal, so boiling in bed!

Sorry, that was a response to @justanotherlaura!

Our boiler is off during the week as we really aren't at home much and by the time we get home the people in the flat below have theirs on which seems to take the chill off.

We did put the heating on last weekend and this weekend from around 4-9 and cost about £1 a day for that time. Not too bad considering you can't really buy anything for £1 nowadays.

2pinkginsplease · 19/11/2022 22:00

Our heating has been on for a few weeks, I refuse to be cold in my own home.

Haaaa!!! I’m the same - my other half calls me a thermonuclear reactor. Which just means we get to snuggle more as he tries to leach my heat! Quite liking that side effect 😁

Also Yorkshire dales and not even considering it yet. It's been a bit chilly this evening but we've wrapped ourselves in fleecy blankets. We've still got the 4 tog duvet on (with patchwork quilt over the top) and am plenty warm enough

webuiltthiscityonrockandwheat · 19/11/2022 22:01

We don't usually use the central heating (oil) but we've had the wood burner on. I have RA and my joints hate cold. I'm miserable if I can't warm up and we're lucky we can take the hit on the increase in the price of oil
