Oceanmoonandstars · 17/11/2022 17:45

DH told me ds 2 yrs old helped him cook dinner while I was out

I asked what and he said he put raw salmon on the pan.

I asked if he washed his hands he just said yeah with a little bit of fairy liquid

I'm freaking out as surely he should of used anti bac??

Anyone's else's little one handle raw meat to help cooking?

I'm so upset but trying to not let it show. I know it's important for under 5s to avoid food poisoning. He's also had his hands in his mouth all evening..

@Christmashorse were you 2 years old? If not, your immune system wouldnt be as immature or as affected.

Your child touched salmon and washed his hands straight after.
he didn’t eat raw fish!

he’s had a bit of a upset tummy - could be a million things - it’s a normal part of childhood ailments and building immunity.
mad for mucous in his stools - a whole bunch of things can cause that.

He washed his hands, OP.

OP you really need to see your gp

TheOrigRights · 28/11/2022 17:24

OP, you need to address your anxiety.
Educating yourself about good (vs OTT/panic) hygiene would be a good way to make you feel more in control.

Did the swab come back OP?

Deep freeze it to kill off any potential bugs

Deep freezing stuff doesn't kill bacteria, simply puts into hibernation of sorts. It'll "wake up" once you defrost.

If it were positive it would be back by now

Handling uncooked foods with washing hands before and after is a good learning experience. Explain how to manage the task and your child will be fine. It’s good that they help with cooking.

But it will kill parasites in fish.

Magentax · 04/12/2022 16:24

Won’t cooking kill parasites too? Genuine question I’ve no idea.

Yes, but freezing is used to ensure fish is safe for sushi
