Went on a first date with a guy I met online last night, went out for dinner. When I got there I definitely found him attractive. However when it came to ordering drinks he ordered himself a glass of milk.

I've honestly never came across someone doing that in a restaurant and I just think it's really odd and really put me off him. I have tried to work out why this was such a turn off and I can't come up with a reason it just made me feel a bit yuck.

AIBU? It's just so odd on a first date I feel.

If I'm honest, I kind of judge an adult who drinks anything other than water, wine, beer alongside a meal. I'm more comfortable with milk than sweet fizzy drinks!

Same. This thread has made me realise that I have a short list of acceptable drinks with dinner. One learns so much about oneself on MN. 😂

See I love wine but wine with a meal is all kinds of wrong to me

Ittakesavineyard · 16/11/2022 13:44

That’s a bit odd, but maybe there’s a reason?

Jjones8 · 16/11/2022 13:47

It’s a bit odd but perhaps there’s a good reason? It’s certainly healthy!

Oysterbabe · 16/11/2022 13:48

I definitely would have asked him about it. It's an unusual choice and I doubt he'd have been offended if you'd said as much. There may well have been a reason beyond he just likes it. That said, milk is gross and he's definitely a psychopath.

Yes it's highly likely there's a reason! 🤔

Now for me that is one of the most incomprehensible sentences I have ever read on MN!!!! How can it be wrong? Wine is the drink to have with dinner. It is made for with food!! Apart from curry. With curry you can have beer. What do you drink with dinner in a restaurant?

TerraNostra · 16/11/2022 13:52

@HermioneKipper you prefer your blokes fat with rotten teeth then?

ShandaLear · 16/11/2022 13:53

I was once in an Italian restaurant in Ireland and the man at the table next to me ordered a lasagne and a cup of tea, and he looked EXACTLY like the kind of man you would expect to order a lasagne and a cup of tea!

Mamoun · 16/11/2022 13:53

This would put me off massively. Yuk. Gross. Milk is for babies and children.

Absolutely. Or every restaurant in the world missed the memo! Hopefully that poster realises she is being weird though?

You and the OP are both much weirder than the milk-drinking guy.

What's (all kinds of) wrong with wine with a meal?

2Twoandcounting · 16/11/2022 13:55

Ordered a glass of milk on a first date 🤣🤣 I laughed so much!

DanglyThings · 16/11/2022 13:55

I must admit my first reaction was to laugh, it seems kind of funny. But then I would probably order a glass of wine with a meal under duress when I don't even particularly want it, just to seem 'normal.' Good for him for ordering what he wants!!

Lockheart · 16/11/2022 13:55

I fucking love milk. I had no idea this was an option for me as an adult!

AryaStarkWolf · 16/11/2022 13:56

Why do people find it weird that he wanted a glass of milk? And what's so awful about it? I don't get it

theyoungishman · 16/11/2022 13:56

I think I would've found my perfect match! I'd join him in a glass of milk no problem, I love milk. I usually order a coffee or milkshake with dinner

Comedycook · 16/11/2022 13:56

I'm like this... especially with a McDonald's. I always order a milk with my burger and fries. When I ordered it once with an old boyfriend, he looked at me like I was mad!

Anyway, at least he will have strong bones op 😂

Vinylloving · 16/11/2022 13:57

Agree it's weird and I would find it off putting. In fact I would have laughed out loud I think!

PollyAmour · 16/11/2022 13:57

It wouldn't bother me but I would probably ask why he ordered milk. I bet the poor sod had heartburn and wanted to line his stomach before tackling his Cajun chicken.

Why do people need to give a reason for ordering milk though? It's a drink, maybe he just likes it, this is such a weird thread 😂

In any country with a wine producing/drinking tradition what you have just said is anathema.

Sewaccidentprone · 16/11/2022 14:03

You’re not in Bristol are you as this is something ds2 would do!

he usually drinks water or milk, and the occasional cup of tea.

ChocolateCakeYum · 16/11/2022 14:03

WilsonMilson · 16/11/2022 13:27

Red wine and milk? Together?? In the same glass???

No. I’d have made my excuses and left. The crazed lunatic.

Yes, all mixed together. He smacked his lips together like it was the best thing ever too.

There was no second date.
