To think the Prince of Wales is being inappropriate and tone deaf to be so vocally supportive of England

At the World Cup. “The whole country is behind you”. Is it too much to ask that as Prince of Wales he supports Wales at their first ever World Cup?

He must be aware that a significant proportion of the people of Wales are a bit miffed at the speed with which he was given the title. Just goes to show the bubble he’s in.

His rich white grown up kids shook hands with low income little black kids through wire fencing very recently on a very bad taste colonial tour leading to probably the grimmest photo op in recent history - then blamed it on 'bad advisors' as if having brain cells wasn't required of them - so calling this lot out for being out of touch is a bit like saying the Pope is Catholic. They've spent a life being waited on hand and foot as if they are Gods and if they do anything nasty, no matter how nasty (Andrew), they get protected. So of cours they have no idea about anything related to normality, and of course I am sure they always think they are right and take any criticism or questioning extremely badly. I find it grotesque. The idea of a Royal Family is so bizarre to me.

I don't blame him for supporting England. He is English after all. That's why he shouldn't be Prince of Wales.

👏👏👏

The Prince of Wales has grown up children???
That's a scoop the gutter press have missed.

KimberleyClark · 17/11/2022 09:00

I actually had a look at the Prince of Wales official website to see if I could find anything about the role specifically in promoting Wales and Welsh interests and there was nothing. Nada. Neither has the site been updated since the death of the Queen, so it’s still showing Charles as PoW. That might be a matter of protocol but it still looks like they don’t give a shit.

When given the Welsh title the Welsh where furious 🤣🤣🤣 damned if he so damned if he dont

Quincythequince · 17/11/2022 09:04

We’ll presumably he is talking about English people being behind the England team.

If he dare spoke on behalf of Welsh people, he’d get it both barrels and you know it.

KimberleyClark · 16/11/2022 09:32

And if he 'supported Wales' we'd probably find you here complaining that an English man was 'supporting Wales'.

Anyone can support Wales as far as I am concerned! The more the merrier.

Why would English people support Wales when England is still in the same competition?

Don’t be ridiculous.

Personally I don’t care how Wales does. Sick to the back teeth of the hate that English people get about practically everything from Scots and Welsh people.

I won’t enjoy seeing Wales lose in the same way I do Scotland though.

That's exactly the point. If he's English, why is he Prince of Wales?

watcherintherye · 17/11/2022 09:15

It’s never struck me that Charles is much of a football fan, unless he’s told he has to be on certain occasions - does he even know Wales qualified?

I agree. It’s bizarre.
All this principality shot from yesteryear is madness quite frankly.

But if he were to dare speak on behalf of Wales, he’s be lambasted for it. So it’s a moot point in the OP really.

Should be noted he often does support Wales in major sporting events - rugby being a big example. You also see the Royals supporting Scotland too - bet the Scots love that 🤣

Charles is not the Prince of Wales.

He’s king now in case you hadn’t heard.

Madamecastafiore · 17/11/2022 09:21

There was a piece on bbc yesterday with Gareth Bale about them getting into the comp for the first time in years, Wakes, that is.

What more do you want them to say/do?

No point bigging them up too much as they'll be out soon 😉

JassyRadlett · 17/11/2022 09:22

Do you get this pissy every time a member of the royal family wishes the Welsh/English/Scottish rugby team well when they're playing against Australia or New Zealand?

PeekAtYou · 17/11/2022 09:28

He can't win with this.

If he promoted the Welsh team then some people in Wales would scoff at the hypocrisy of an English man thinking that he could speak for Wales after being Prince of Wales for 10 minutes. There would be people calling for
a Welsh person to lead the send off or complaining about the World Cup taking over the TV schedules. Complaints about how Qatar was chosen, worker conditions and LGBT issues are valid imo- I mean the usual bashing of football in general that I see on here

Yep!
People love to have something to moan about. I mean, it’s not as if there aren’t enough shitty things at the moment to mom about already.

And FWIW - I take far more issue with Slebs (Beckham in particular) for making money out of this, given the human rights abuses that are ongoing over there.

Appalling!

1001Daffodils · 16/11/2022 11:57

Well he lied when he said "The whole country is behind you" because the whole of the UK is most certainly not behind them.

A fairer and less contentious comment would be to say "All of England is behind you" at least then he's clearly only speaking in his capacity as an English man, an English football fan and patron of the FA.

As heir to the throne and Prince of Wales saying "country" implies the United Kingdom rather than just one part of it. He lives an incredibly privileged life and has people on hand to advise what would be good words to use - zero excuses for this. Thoughtless as always.

England is a country though?
So it stands to reason that when he said ‘the country’, he was talking about England, not the UK.
Its so funny because I’m sure you’d be the type of person who’d point out ‘The UK is more than just England’, yet when people mention England, you’re assuming they should be including you as well too?

He’s an English bloke, supporting England, and referring to England as a country. It’s not a big deal really

antelopevalley · 17/11/2022 09:48

The idea he is Prince of Wales is a total insult to Welsh people. He has not learned Welsh and lets be honest does not give a fuck about Wales.

People always say stuff like this. But since no one has ever tried it we do not actually know.
The Royal Family like the government supports England first and foremost.

I’m assuming they thought you were referring to Charles being the POW, as he was the old one. Probably crossed wires if that’s not what you meant, and we’re just talking about Charles in general

Not sure I understand that explanation either! I just said ‘Charles’ with no reference to his titles at all, only a query as to his football fan credentials! Some posters must get so taken up with their own train of thought that they assume every other post is also following it. Mine wasn’t.

ShimmeringShirts · 17/11/2022 10:14

Can people not support the team they like best? Why does nationality have to come in to it? I’m Scottish and was over the moon when englands Womens team won, they played fantastic. Or should I have stood and booed just because they’re English and I’m Scottish? Same principle with the Prince of wales.

antelopevalley · 17/11/2022 10:22

He si the King. He can do whatever he wants in private, but in public he has a job.
Dio you think Prime Ministers can say, I do not care who wins the World Cup? Even if they do not care a jot about football they have to support it as part of their job.
