To not like him calling me Mummy...

My Husband calls me Mummy around the house while my kids are around, so for example he might shout 'Mummy, do you know where are DS's socks are'...etc
If I have given the kids a snack he will say 'Mummy is there one for me!'
I didn't mind when the kids were really young and he was talking with them but I find it a bit creepy he is using it to directly ask me questions.... am I being unreasonable? Is it me thats overthinking it?

OMFG I would not be able to cope with that.

Does he think he’s your child?

LateAF · 15/11/2022 20:23

I draw the line at that. Don’t mind my husband saying “ask mummy” etc directly in response to the kids’ questions- but if he is addressing me he must use my name.

Easy fix though. Let him know you want him to call you by your name only. And once you’ve told him this, respond to him if he addresses you as mummy. Just act like you haven’t heard. He’ll get the hang of it soon enough.

LateAF · 15/11/2022 20:24

*Dont respond to him if he addresses you as mummy

JohnLapsleyParlabane · 15/11/2022 20:25

Ick. Referring to you as Mummy is one thing, but actually calling you Mummy directly is weird.

BeardieWeirdie · 15/11/2022 20:25

Ugh my fanny would seal shut if I ever heard my husband doing that. Yanbu

icelollycraving · 15/11/2022 20:25

I had a boyfriend who wanted to call me mummy in bed. Odd old business.

SavingsThreads · 15/11/2022 20:26

Gosh it's like bad sisters

Singlebutmarried · 15/11/2022 20:27

Mr DHs parents still called each other mummy and daddy. DH was in his 30s at the time.

bellac11 · 15/11/2022 20:27

Used to be very common didnt it, calling people mother and father, or mather and father if oop north.

RosesAndHellebores · 15/11/2022 20:29

YABU
Almost as bad as nurses who refer to the female parent as mum.

I have a name. I expect everyone except my children to use it. My dil uses my name and I use my Mil's name.

I did used to be common. But calling each other mother and father isn’t as bad as mummy.

RosesAndHellebores · 15/11/2022 20:29

Sorry op. YANBU. YANBU at all.

Dontbelieveawordofit · 15/11/2022 20:29

Creepy AF. Why haven't you told him to stop ffs? How old are the kids now, 18 & 21???

BabyofMine · 15/11/2022 20:29

Oh no me and my other half call each other Mummy and Daddy 🙈 We even catch ourselves doing it while DD is at school and we’re both wfh! Doesn’t bother me and he’s never said it bothers him.

LoopDiL00p · 15/11/2022 20:30

How old are your kids?

We call each other mummy and daddy if we're speaking to our 3 year old but never directly.

StickySnotBalls · 15/11/2022 20:30

Refer to him as daddy every time, EVERY TIME ! See what shrivel up Grin

alexdgr8 · 15/11/2022 20:30

this was quite the norm when i was young.
i rather liked it.
it's something to do with respect.
also addressing any older woman as mother.

Thepeopleversuswork · 15/11/2022 20:31

My parents used to do that to each other but tongue in cheek. It made me want to vom then tbh.

Yes!! I actually had one of my sons teachers do this the other day. She said "thank you mum!" I was a bit 😱

stclair · 15/11/2022 20:32

My DH calls me mummy. So I call him father. He’s not too keen on that

Dontbelieveawordofit · 15/11/2022 20:34

@alexdgr8 how is it showing respect? They are husband and wife, not mother and child. She has a name, using that would be respectful.
Calling her mummy makes me think of those men who pay women to dress them in nappies and stick a dummy in their mouth...or up their arse. But at least those women are getting paid for it!

Far worse imo.

nurses probably meet multiple mums and kids a day so find it easier to default to 'mum' rather than check their notes for a name. A husband has no such excuse.

My romantic partner calling me mummy would be a real fanny dehydrator.

angelikacpickles · 15/11/2022 20:34

YANBU. I remember being out for dinner once for a friend's birthday and her aunt (who would have been in her 40s at the time) kept referring to her husband as daddy. It was night time and her children were not there. It was so odd and creepy.
