To not like him calling me Mummy...

My Husband calls me Mummy around the house while my kids are around, so for example he might shout 'Mummy, do you know where are DS's socks are'...etc
If I have given the kids a snack he will say 'Mummy is there one for me!'
I didn't mind when the kids were really young and he was talking with them but I find it a bit creepy he is using it to directly ask me questions.... am I being unreasonable? Is it me thats overthinking it?

I did used to be common. But calling each other mother and father isn’t as bad as mummy.

Whats the difference?

WoolyMammoth55 · 15/11/2022 20:41

Ha ha we do this! Not for a sex thing, but on the advice of a speech and language therapist - our LO has speech delay, related to lockdowns they think, and she said it's helpful for us to mirror the good pronunciation to him...

We only do it in front of the kids, not after they're asleep or when they're not there. But I wouldn't freak out too much if DH did it then out of habit/exhaustion, honestly.

To me, personally, mummy is what you are called by a child. Mother is different, is infers status. Like motherland, or ‘shall I be mother’.

libraryday · 15/11/2022 20:46

YANBU, This is so bloody creepy. My mum used to do this and I had to have a word. Obviously I don't mind if my husband or other adult is talking to the kids about me e.g ask mummy.
Only the kids are actually allowed to call me mummy though.
It makes my skin crawl just thinking about it.

motleymop · 15/11/2022 20:47

It doesn't really bother me. I'd find it odd to find my OH creepy though - I'd be saying something before it got to that stage.

I know 75 year old with grown up children who sometimes still says it to his wife when his children are about - I've always found it quite sweet.

littlepeas · 15/11/2022 20:47

My grandparents did this (except it was ‘mother’ and ‘father’) - I never heard either of them called by their first name.

bellac11 · 15/11/2022 20:49

I wonder why people find it 'creepy' and what they mean by this

As lots of us have pointed out, its not that unusual in the past

PragmaticWench · 15/11/2022 20:49

That would make me feel sick. There would be no sex EVER again. Creepy as fuck.

tunthebloodyalarmoff · 15/11/2022 20:49

No no no put a stop that

Pompomsfantastix · 15/11/2022 20:51

People seem to think there's some underlying problem with the man having mummy issues / wanting to shag his mum. It's just a thing some people do, and very unlikely to be creepy.

There were a lot of things in the past that were considered 'normal' but you could probably get arrested for nowadays!

Luredbyapomegranate · 15/11/2022 20:54

God no CREEPYVILLE

Would telling him it makes your vagina close up help?

Do whatever it takes to stop him doing it

it's creepy because only people who exit your vagina should call you mummy. not people who enter.

bellac11 · 15/11/2022 20:59

I think its more creepy that posters keep emphasising their vaginas to make their point, I dont get it?

butterfliedtwo · 15/11/2022 20:59

My god, instant ick. Just absolutely not.

clearly.

georgarina · 15/11/2022 21:00

So funny, I posted a thread ages ago about my dad doing this.
I hate it! It makes my skin crawl, and it's dehumanising - I'm no one's Mummy but my children's, and they're the only ones allowed to call me that.

DeliberatelyObtuse · 15/11/2022 21:02

Ick

If you find our comments creepy or offensive, feel free to stop reading.

carbedup · 15/11/2022 21:03

wtf??!!
I do wonder if he has just made a habit of it. But you need to put a stop to this! Does he call you by your name if kids not around?
Either way...he needs to stop.

It's repulsive and puerile, but you see it on here all the same. I think it's supposed to be funny?
