To shower every day or not?

Do you shower every day or not?

I am not showering every day and I come from a country that very few people shower every day!

I dislike being wet and as a kid I didn’t shower everyday too. Maybe I don’t do it because I was not taught to do it as kid.

Those who shower every day do you also shower your kids everyday?

And those you shower every day do you get your hair wet or shampoo them everyday?

I wouldn’t be able to do this everyday!!!! Many British people I know shower every day (either morning or night) and I find it so hard mentally and physically to invest time on that on a daily basis given everything is in such a fast pace.

I would never sacrifice time from my sleep to shower in the morning!

Travelling on London Underground every day you definitely need a shower or bath twice a day. 3 if you travel on the met line as everyone is always Ill. 😷

You also get skin tags with the pollution if your not washing enough. I found Liverpool Street pollution very bad!

Depends how you shower though, which can be quite individual. Turn on water, get wet, wet flannel water off lather, water on rinse, out, 2mins 45 seconds of water running. We’re still trying to work out how not to waste the first 25 seconds of cold to lukewarm water.

If you wanted to be mega green you could put a bucket under the shower to catch the water and use it to water plants/flush the loo/clean with

solvendie · 14/11/2022 23:54

I shower every day as I think having a basin wash is more hassle and takes just as long

Did this during the heatwave, managed to keep a few plants alive

shared water too

@Purplebunnie

People did smell more than they do now.

Showers were rare but a lot of people would have bathed far more than once a week by the 60s. For those who didn't/couldn't afford to, strip washing was common between baths, especially if you did a physical job.

Anti perspirants make a difference nowadays. There's a reason talc was so popular a few generations ago!

Whenisthisgoingtoend · 15/11/2022 00:01

Shower every morning to feel awake and fresh, hair wash every 2nd day.
Body shower before bed every night just don’t feel clean going to bed without one.
Shower after gym or swimming also.
My showers are quick, in lather rinse out and feel so much better getting fresh before bed and have a good sleep.
Bedding still fresh as were fresh.
This was how I was brought up by my parents.

pippieham123 · 15/11/2022 00:03

I shower once a week. I’ll give my bits a wash in between usually. I don’t sweat much, my hair becomes a nightmare if it’s washed too often, and my skin dries out too. I also am like OP, showering is a mentally taxing endeavour. I’m neurodivergent though. I think western society is far too obsessed with cleanliness- you absolutely do not need to shower everyday.

Suboptimalsitch · 15/11/2022 00:06

It depends on each person. Since peri menopause I’m much sweatier and stinkier I shower every day. I would not be nice to be near if I didn’t. My friend could probably go a few days without a shower and not smell.

A percentage of people can’t smell their own body odour, so we aren’t always the best judge of whether we smell or not. My ex and most of his family had B.O but had no idea. I told my ex nicely that he could do with using a stronger deodorant, which he did, but up to that point had no idea he smelled.

My DC showered or bathed daily growing up and do the same as adults. They were always playing out and did sports so needed a good clean by the end of the day growing up. Hair was as needed.

I don't understand the utter batshittery of ANYONE who washes their tits, arse, and bits with soap and a flannel, at the sink. Having a shower is FAR quicker, washes you all over, every part of your body, and you can easily and quickly wash your hair too. Who the fuck washes their body at the sink with a flannel and soap? It's not the 1940s! Confused

Of course it's not batshittery! I was raised in the 70s to have a flannel wash with occasional baths. People really didn't shower back then like they do today. It's still a useful quick tactic for smelly areas. Wouldn't like to go a day without at least a flannel wash!
What I find batshittery is people who shower several times a day as people on this kind of thread regularly insist.

plymouthspark · 15/11/2022 00:14

BUT WHAT ABOUT YOUR BUM AND VAG??

How do you keep your bits clean? A week is far too long. I couldn't even imagine the smell!

PutinSmellsPassItOn · 15/11/2022 00:22

I alternate between a very quick bits and pits scrub (( 3 minutes tops just lather up and rinse)) and a full, 20 minute shower with hair wash etc. I've found as I've got older I need a shower daily or I stink.

LargeglassofRosePlease · 15/11/2022 00:23

Twice a day here. Morning and evening. Wash hair daily too. I don’t feel clean otherwise and I like to have a fresh fanny as well .

My children shower before and after school. That’s what suits us.

Theoldwoman · 15/11/2022 00:23

Of course I shower every day , actually morning and night. It’s a no brained for me. I wash my hair twice a week.
My kids are now 19 and 21 and they have between 1-4 showers a day.
When they were growing, they had a bath or shower every night before bed.

Sparklingbrook · 15/11/2022 00:23

Flannel/sink washes were a thing when I was growing up. As an adult I vowed to never do that as I hated it and as a PP said it’s less faff to just have a shower.
And I have one twice a day because I want to and I can. 🤷‍♀️

Faultymain5 · 14/11/2022 23:52

How long are you in the shower for. You should probably try my husband’s method.

Baths are unhygienic so I end up showering after them. My last bath was 2015.

Baths are unhygienic? Come on. Unless you've been down a coal mine all day, no one gets dirty enough in a day to make having a bath unhygienic.

DuchessDandelion · 15/11/2022 00:26

@bringincrazyback that's like a red rag to a bull on this thread! 😆

Sitting in your own scum is gross. There’s a reason why you have to wash the bath when you get out. Usually a little ring around it. If you leave residue in the bath and you’ve been lying in it…. It’s likely there is still residue on you.

GirlOfTudor · 15/11/2022 00:29

Showering twice a day is completely unnecessary unless you wake up sweaty/stinky in the morning and are the same by the time you finish your day.

Shower as often as you're comfortable with!

That's a soap ring, not a dirt ring!

Bugger, now I'm engaging.

4 showers a day?! Are you serious? That’s insane!

Faultymain5 · 15/11/2022 00:30

@bringincrazyback Please be mindful, I’m not suggesting you or anyone should stop taking baths if you like them. I don’t like them anymore , I don’t have them and at least you’re cleaning yourself if you have them. Unlike the Op who I would urge to be a little cleaner.

By all means do engage if you want to but I’m only asking what you might think soap rings are made out of. A hint is it’s not just soap.

IMO it's a huge exaggeration to describe bathwater as 'scum' in this day and age. In the days of one bath a week, yes. But not nowadays, with improved hygiene, unless someone has a job or lifestyle that gets them dirty.

And in my experience the ring round the bath you mention tends to consist more of accumulated bath product than anything else.

I accept what you said in your other post that you don't like baths and aren't trying to stop anyone else having them, but if you're going to advocate a live-and-let-live approach then please don't insult people who do like baths by telling them they're doing something 'gross'.

DuchessDandelion · 15/11/2022 00:41

Well, perhaps you're right but honestly once I've bathed and cleaned myself I'm as fresh as a daisy when I get out and there's only so much invisible 'dirt' I can care about.

Most people who bathe aren't going to be noticeable grimy so it's about cleaning sweat and excess oil in a large amount of water. Hardly come out stewed in filth, but I appreciate some people dislike it - same way as I dislike bags on the bed, I suppose.
