Worrying about having 4 wisdom teeth out at once?

stopbeeping · 12/11/2022 15:42

Needs to be with a GA as my teeth are really impacted and sideways

I have three children aged 6 months to 6 years old. Worrying about how sore it is afterwards and the practicality of it being done twice. I don't really want two GAs if I could have the one.. but is my head going to feel like I've been stamped on?

Aibu to be getting worked up about this?

A friend had it done in one go. She ended up with two black eyes, but with painkillers she was ok.

insweetharmony · 12/11/2022 15:44

2 at a time was more than enough for me. I imagine 4 would be, well, twice as bad

stopbeeping · 12/11/2022 15:44

Oh no, I was panicking about this

How long till she could eat? Is that how you get a dry socket when they take out wisdom teeth?

MIL had a black eye with one tooth out

I take Dihydrocodeine every day for my back and have for years
I'm worried I'll be in a lot of pain because I'm so used to the pain killers

I had impacted and sideways growing wisom teeth and had all four out under GA. I was a bit groggy for a day or so afterwards, and my mouth was sore from the stitches but it wasnt too bad to be honest. If you have decent help with the children, hopefully it wont be too bad for you. Its probably better having them all done at once, rather than two lots.

Did your head throb?

Wonder if I should ask if they can do two then the other two..

Have you had other surgeries or painful things in your life? Where did it rank?

Modern drugs will make it manageable. Just don’t over do it while the long acting freezing is still in place…
plan ahead with mushy soft foods 3xper day x 7 days.

Everydaywheniwakeup · 12/11/2022 15:46

I had all 4 out together. I felt pretty shit for a day or two but had no complications so everything improved from then on.

KangarooKenny · 12/11/2022 15:46

I’d be having one GA rather than two.

Is this the thing that people have done then tell you about having soup through a straw for a week?

Dreading it

I've had kidney and gall stones, and broken a couple of bones. All were much, much worse.

11GrumpsaGrumping · 12/11/2022 15:47

I had all four out at the same time. It honestly E wasn't that bad. Sore and groggy for a day then mostly fine. Better to do it all in one go!

stopbeeping · 12/11/2022 15:47

KangarooKenny · 12/11/2022 15:46

I’d be having one GA rather than two.

That's exactly what I was thinking

I was wondering if they can give me like a nerve block in my face that helps for say a day or two

I've had three sections and my second one I literally had no pain but the most recent one I was so so sore for about two weeks afterwards.

What about heavy sedation to get them out? Is that a thing?

Assuming you’re in the U.K. it won’t be split over two GAs. Partly because it doubles anaesthetic risk, and also because it doubles costs. So put it out of your mind - it’s not an option.

This is really reassuring
I've had kidney stones too

I thought I was dying

Don’t use a straw ! It can give you dry socket

stopbeeping · 12/11/2022 15:49

@Motorina

Who said someone else was paying

Not sure if you meant to come across as rude but you did

I'm also worried about the two GAs I agree

Was considering having two out one the top one the bottom and done twice

You don't know peoples circumstances so it's quite rude the way you replied

I’ve had 4 wisdom teeth out in one go under GA, and I’ve had 3 csections so can compare! My head didn’t feel stamped on at all, I had impressive swelling and bruising along my jaw for the following 2 weeks, was able to eat after a few days. I then got an infection and that really messed me up and what I could eat etc, but the procedure and recovery itself was fine.

Iusedtoplaytherecorder · 12/11/2022 15:50

I had all four under until GA. I was absolutely fine, hardly any side effects. In fact I had a job interview the day after!

Ruizy · 12/11/2022 15:50

I need the answers to this too so just marking my place

Kidney stones is the worse pain I've ever had. I'd rather have my wisdom teeth again any day. The worse part for me, genuinely, was eating soup and mushy food for a few days after. I detest soup and struggle to eat mushy food, as the consistency makes me feel sick.

queenofthewild · 12/11/2022 15:50

I had just my bottom ones out. My face was black and blue and swollen like a pumpkin lantern. I couldn't go out for a week and was in so much pain.

I few years later I had the top ones out. It was slightly uncomfortable for a day.

Get the lot out at once and get it over and done with.

This is the stuff of a horror film isn't it? I have read about dry socket and it's meant to be worse then any of the pain of a tooth coming out

They said they will have to break the teeth into bits to get it out

Think I'm going to be mighty bruised

OP posts:
crochetmeahat · 12/11/2022 15:51

I had all 4 out when I was 19 under GA (totally impacted) it was a long time ago but I ate things like soup at first graduating onto things like carrot and swede mash and flaky white fish.

I can't really see why 4 would be worse than 2??

Ask the anaesthetist about their advice for post op pain relief

Was it like a headache? How is the pain?
