Mine are:

Feature Walls
Pampas Grass
Crushed Velvet
Hanging Lights - all on the same beam
Shiny furniture

My house is white and I love it - contrasted with darker wood, artwork, plants and colour from things like cushions etc. and to some that’s absolutely boring and that’s ok.

@BlackberryCat

I love my pampass grass!! I’m not actually a swinger but I like to think that my neighbors might think that I am.

This put my dh into fits - made my day

I did have a friend tell me that my kids bedrooms devalue my home 😂

Not just because the teens live in a weird den of clutter, but because they're decorated for each child. DD likes bright colours and geometric patterns, so her decor, furniture and bedding are all themed to that. DS1 loves nature and forests and has a lot of plants, so his room is like walking into a little woodland sanctuary. Very green and soothing. DS2 has a love for space, and his favourite colour is pink. His bedroom pays tribute to that.

Apparently, these choices devalue my home and their rooms ought to be white and maybe just their bedding in the colours they like. Same friend told me that the leaves on my driveway didn't give me the right curb appeal. I'm not trying to dress this house for anyone who doesn't already live here.

kneeldownandenter · 12/11/2022 07:42

Slogan pictures about family bring where the heart is etc.

Or those awful ones about dancing in kitchen. Or like no one's watching

Family shrine type set up around fireplaces when it's not actually a shrine for some one died.

🤮

Sunnysideup999 · 12/11/2022 07:45

Grey / griege everywhere
no books
zebra print/ animal print / safari lodge vibes
unoriginal print art or inspo posters (live love laugh etc)/ neon lighting signs (let’s stay home!)
unlit corners
big wooden units
fake flowers
crushed velvet cushions
those weird wooden chain things that people put on coffee tables (why! What are they!)
shabby chic
no photos
no colour

autumn1610 · 12/11/2022 07:49

that Bloody panelling everywhere, bedrooms and stairs. So overdone

Darkchocolateandcoffee · 12/11/2022 07:49

Mid-century modern furniture. Boring, hackneyed and ugly.

Showy-offy slogan posters 'In this house we...'

Shutters not curtains in the bedroom

luxxlisbon · 12/11/2022 07:49

Anthracite

Those ‘contemporary’ internal doors with the vertical panelling 🤮

When people with no taste or understanding of proportion do diy, so diy panelling with tiny beading and off proportions, a house near me has a picture rail that they have put in about 1M down from the ceiling and it looks fucking ridiculous

Garden rugs

Pattern and bold colour everywhere

White MFC

Flubber88 · 12/11/2022 07:56

Any 'spell out' crap such as 'Family' "Love" etc.

Westendbuoys · 12/11/2022 07:57

Ha ha, you'd all hate my white & grey house. It's full of mid century furniture too. 😂

I dislike:
Matchy matchy decor - a friend has her living room with yellow as her "feature colour" and just brought loads of yellow knick knacks, cushions, candles etc. It looks nice but there's nothing personal and there's nothing of her or her kids in the room.
Gallery walls - there's always a wonky picture, they gather dust and your wall is full of holes
Pink & green decor - you're not an Instagram influencers
Massive canvas from a family photoshoot.

Aozora13 · 12/11/2022 07:57

I recently stayed in a holiday let decorated in the Homes under the Hammer aesthetic which I’m really not a fan of - cold grey and white colour palette, glass dining table with brown pleather chairs, big see-through glass clock, light grey faux wood laminate flooring plus hairy grey rug, white glossy kitchen with coloured metro tiles for a bit of “personality”… The worst part was that DH really liked it!

wallpower · 12/11/2022 07:57

Doors with glass in them

all doors with glass in them? french doors? crittal doors? sliding doors? 😆

saleorbouy · 12/11/2022 07:58

Those stupid letters that people put on shelves such as.

LOVE.
RELAX
BATH

What's the point?

Penguinsaregreat · 12/11/2022 07:58

Most of the things listed on here don't bother me. What does though are the following:
Tiny hallways/passages. The ones where you open the front door and literally there is only room for One person . Get a couple of people in there and you can barely open the door into the lounge. Why design a house like this especially when the rest of the house is spacious?
Removal of gardens and natural products to replace with any thing else such as fake grass, stones, concrete. Vast swathes of concrete/stones/pebbles/paving look awful. If you think they don't then imagine every local park being turned into a car park. Stop destroying the wildlife and get some plants there.

Kabbalah · 12/11/2022 08:02

Minimalism with everything painted white : the psychiatric ward look.

Charlize43 · 12/11/2022 08:02

I really hate patterns on patterns on patterns.

You know those rooms which have a swirly patterned carpet, floral wallpaper, gingham or checked curtains, some other florals on the bed, printed cushions, then artwork hung on the walls and objects all over the surfaces. It's too much on the eye!

Even worse if some attempt hasn't been made to co-ordinate the colours.

I'm aways surprised that some people have absolutely no visual sense

DrivingHomeForChristmaaargh · 12/11/2022 08:04

Grey everything
Purple (unless in a teenagers room, where it is permissible)
Laminate floors
Tv on the wall
Family photos on the wall (on a table is fine)
Writing on the wall eg BATH in the bathroom- why?
No books
Looks like a hotel
Feature walls
I also don’t like too much bought-in shabby chic. That look needs to be done organically- if you just buy a load of stuff your house will look like a gastropub.

Things I have that pp don’t like-

Dark wood furniture
Lots of colour and pattern

Also really depends on your home. Something that looks good in my 16th C English cottage would look wrong in a Manhattan penthouse and vice versa.

DontSpeakLatinInFrontOfTheBooks · 12/11/2022 08:04

Mirrored furniture
white everything, especially when it’s shiny
nothing on the walls- photos, art etc
loads of grey/beige and no colour at all
very bright lights, especially with the aforementioned white everything
plastic grass

Penguinsaregreat · 12/11/2022 08:07

Also people in big houses, I'm talking 4 bedrooms for a family of 4, who convert their garage and drive so that they can no longer accommodate all their vehicles. Then park outside neighbours houses despite the fact the neighbour needs to park their own car outside their house. Then they get annoyed when their visitors struggle to park close by and if you decide actually, I'll start parking on the road and cluttering it up like you do they can't see the irony.

BirmaBrite · 12/11/2022 08:11

I hate those extremely shiny marble floor tiles, especially in living rooms. Just so cold and unfriendly.

Also a hater of the super shiny floors.

Freestanding baths in bedrooms.
Laminate flooring, cold and noisy.
No books on show, but this is only because I am nosy and love looking at other people's bookshelves. And I love books Smile

FlamingBells · 12/11/2022 08:11

Ensuite bathrooms without doors so the bathroom and bedroom flows into one space. Eew I don't want toilet smells and germs floating round in my bedroom..

Grey everything makes me depressed

Plastic grass

Fake regency style furniture

Crystal ornaments

ohfook · 12/11/2022 08:11

Nothing - it's taken me years to figure out my interior design style but I love looking at other peoples houses and seeing all the different ways people decorate.

Orangebadger · 12/11/2022 08:12

Beige! Hate most beige things especially sofa and walls.
TV above fireplaces... too high up so really not practical. And looks awful!
Feature walls. DH wants us to have one in our bedroom. I am digging my heels in firmly!
Cheap laminate? Just no!
I like open plan but not completely open plan. So to keep one separate room is ideal, not knock the entire ground floor to open it up! Just too much.
Family canvas prints!!! Why??

ohfook · 12/11/2022 08:13

Oh actually I tell a lie. My house has this really orangey fake wood flooring that I can't afford to replace - I hate that, although 90s me would've loved it!

MarshaBradyo · 12/11/2022 08:13

FourChimneys · 12/11/2022 07:20

Grey
Large television screens
No books
Random words eg HOME

Same here plus feature walls

Dotcheck · 12/11/2022 08:17

lightand · 12/11/2022 06:33

Not enough seating for everyone to sit comfortably.

Explain that to the people who hate corner sofas
