I know, I'm on a thread about it. But I've never watched it except once when I was a student and the rest of the group insisted. Hadn't heard of any of them. Even copious amounts of alcohol and other stuff couldn't make it enjoyable. I went and fell asleep on someone's futon instead.

The books are badly written and horribly derivative. Even if he was a pleasant person the popularity of his books would make no sense.

So many books are what I call lick and stick, they are repetitive in their story lines, Jilly Cooper springs to mind and, going back in time, Catherine Cookson, the write hits on a winning formula and simply rejigs it every time.

@ClaribelLowLieth the real story is this. He is a sexual predator who grooms teenage girls and invites them back stage for his after show parties. He hides behind his camp persona so that he appears non threatening.
He slept his way through the young Harper Collins editorial staff, one at a time, using his position and power to woo them. Last year a senior, female, executive fell on her sword and was sacked for not protecting those women, and HC carry on with publishing him and making a fortune from his books.
Be under no false illusions - everyone in publishing knows. And when this breaks (a major newspaper is close but he is lawyered to the hilt) then these people at Harper Collins, Waterstones etc must be held to account for allowing him to be promoted as a role model to young children.
Harper Collins is a Rupert Murdoch company. Look how slow The Times were to report the BGT offensive comments story - last by quite some way and only when they felt they couldn’t not.

@ClaribelLowLieth It is worse than Saville in some ways because we should have learnt from Saville. How are we here again, this time in 2022, when two industries (TV and publishing) know that someone is a sexual predator, and yet his books are on the top shelves of every supermarket and chain bookshop (you should note that independent bookshops often will not have him front and centre if at all.) People are making millions of pounds from a known paedeophile.

Very interesting to hear @mrBanks account because I’m coming at it from the TV industry (I was a lowly employee in the company that makes BGT and I don’t work there anymore) and what is referred to in the post is spot on. Just because you’re not an important member of staff in regards to the show, it doesn’t mean you don’t see and hear a lot of things.
