He's on the wall of my child's school as author of the month. I just do not see the appeal - as I see it he got into writing easily, already being a celebrity, and found success as he used the same illustrator as Roald Dahl - Quentin Blake.

There have been threads in the past about him, and now this
www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2022/nov/10/david-walliams-recorded-derogatory-remarks-britains-got-talent-bgt-contestants

Basically, saying really offensive things about some BGT contestants, on mic. Of course they were going to be leaked.

Lauren Budd, I googled it. She was 18, he was 38.

Skinnermarink · 10/11/2022 17:50

He’s not gay!! Not at all. That’s part of the ruse.

Oh I know. And it shouldn't be a scandal either but I can see the daily mail making it one.

No, being gay isn't/shouldn't be a scandal. But any dodgy behaviour should be - like PS's with the young runner, just as one example.

Yuck. Young enough to be DW's daughter.

Agreed

Ahhhh Tom Fletcher..his books are fantastic! They made me and my DC laugh out loud. He and his wife also seem like really lovely people and I think his books have a good morale to them with strong female characters.

Agree that some of 'his' books are good.

I'll eat my hat if he, rather than his author wife, wrote them though. Can't really blame them, they have sold much more than they would with her name on. It always just irks me a bit when husbands take the credit for their wives actual work and would rather the book industry moved away from the whole 'celeb author' trend full stop (wishful thinking obviously).

It will when people stop buying them. IACGMOOH will stop airing when people stop watching it. I really can't believe it's still going.

I know, I'm on a thread about it. But I've never watched it except once when I was a student and the rest of the group insisted. Hadn't heard of any of them. Even copious amounts of alcohol and other stuff couldn't make it enjoyable. I went and fell asleep on someone's futon instead.

AbsoluteYawns · 10/11/2022 18:42

@Flyinggeesei234 -- everywhere! Start with schools.
The man is held up as a hero. He held disgusting views.
Even his website makes a tiny mention of his nasty past - no remorse.

Does nobody remember the News of the World video of him wanking whilst having a private dance in the back room of a lap dancing club? Probably about 15 years ago. It had no effect on his career trajectory at all which always surprised me.

I had no memory of this, so searched for it. Can only find one article m.imdb.com/news/ni0118192 apparently some search results have been removed...

longfishbagel · 10/11/2022 20:02

Sheitgeist · 10/11/2022 10:25

He's a repulsive, talentless prick.

Exactly.

catandcoffee · 10/11/2022 21:51

Very strange how Simon Cowell let's him get away with this behaviour.... it's like DW has " Stuff " on people.

As if Cowell gives a shit! If it doesn't adversely affect the ratings, nobody will give a toss.

SweetSakura · 10/11/2022 21:57

The books are badly written and horribly derivative. Even if he was a pleasant person the popularity of his books would make no sense.

The fact he is vile and this spills into the stereotyping in his books should be no surprise to anyone who has watched little Britain

Completely. And while this isn’t about SC I feel a lot of people have stuff on him.

Fantastic ideas, thank you!

Artemis Fowl series very good if you like Potter. By Eoin Colfer.

The Invisible Detective books by Justin Richards.

David Almond - as above , brilliant

JustDanceAddict · 10/11/2022 11:36

I used to like him, but not any more. His first few books were good (boy in dress, gangsta granny) , then they became formulaic.
Dahl was a miserable anti semite but an amazing author. Hard to reconcile.

So many books are what I call lick and stick, they are repetitive in their story lines, Jilly Cooper springs to mind and, going back in time, Catherine Cookson, the write hits on a winning formula and simply rejigs it every time.

mrBanks · 13/11/2022 08:38

@ClaribelLowLieth the real story is this. He is a sexual predator who grooms teenage girls and invites them back stage for his after show parties. He hides behind his camp persona so that he appears non threatening.
He slept his way through the young Harper Collins editorial staff, one at a time, using his position and power to woo them. Last year a senior, female, executive fell on her sword and was sacked for not protecting those women, and HC carry on with publishing him and making a fortune from his books.
Be under no false illusions - everyone in publishing knows. And when this breaks (a major newspaper is close but he is lawyered to the hilt) then these people at Harper Collins, Waterstones etc must be held to account for allowing him to be promoted as a role model to young children.
Harper Collins is a Rupert Murdoch company. Look how slow The Times were to report the BGT offensive comments story - last by quite some way and only when they felt they couldn’t not.

StickySnotBalls · 13/11/2022 08:57

@mrBanks 👌 I fear you are right

Thanks for spelling it out - the dark mutterings about 'something' that would come to light weren't really cutting it!

It's gross but hardly akin to Savile.

mrBanks · 13/11/2022 09:03

@ClaribelLowLieth It is worse than Saville in some ways because we should have learnt from Saville. How are we here again, this time in 2022, when two industries (TV and publishing) know that someone is a sexual predator, and yet his books are on the top shelves of every supermarket and chain bookshop (you should note that independent bookshops often will not have him front and centre if at all.) People are making millions of pounds from a known paedeophile.

AlecTrevelyan006 · 13/11/2022 09:12

Interesting

LikeTearsInRain · 13/11/2022 09:12

Well he is still not cancelled. Sorry to say it looks like he is getting away with this one.

LexMitior · 13/11/2022 09:26

He is a creep, but not a paedophile.

Anyway, just don't buy the books and don't watch him. He makes Cowell look like a fluffy bunny by comparison. Apparently they don't like each other so expect him to be replaced for the next series

Skinnermarink · 13/11/2022 10:13

Very interesting to hear @mrBanks account because I’m coming at it from the TV industry (I was a lowly employee in the company that makes BGT and I don’t work there anymore) and what is referred to in the post is spot on. Just because you’re not an important member of staff in regards to the show, it doesn’t mean you don’t see and hear a lot of things.

a major newspaper has been trying for a while to break the story, but his lawyers are shit hot, it’s where a huge chunk of his money is spent.

No, that's not good enough. He is a sexual reactor who targets young women and teenagers and businesses have enabled him.

Companies which have a duty of care to their employees have failed to protect them.

Walliams was the compere for Presidents Club dinners too for several years www.ft.com/content/075d679e-0033-11e8-9650-9c0ad2d7c5b5

Clymene · 13/11/2022 10:39

Predator, not reactor
