He's on the wall of my child's school as author of the month. I just do not see the appeal - as I see it he got into writing easily, already being a celebrity, and found success as he used the same illustrator as Roald Dahl - Quentin Blake.

There have been threads in the past about him, and now this
www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2022/nov/10/david-walliams-recorded-derogatory-remarks-britains-got-talent-bgt-contestants

Basically, saying really offensive things about some BGT contestants, on mic. Of course they were going to be leaked.

he didn’t call a woman a cunt at all

He called a male a cunt

That's alright then 😂

Guiltycat · 10/11/2022 14:55

Ahhhh Tom Fletcher..his books are fantastic! They made me and my DC laugh out loud. He and his wife also seem like really lovely people and I think his books have a good morale to them with strong female characters.

Agree that some of 'his' books are good.

I'll eat my hat if he, rather than his author wife, wrote them though. Can't really blame them, they have sold much more than they would with her name on. It always just irks me a bit when husbands take the credit for their wives actual work and would rather the book industry moved away from the whole 'celeb author' trend full stop (wishful thinking obviously).

Right, yes, that's right, and then said a load of dreadful things about a woman too.

I wonder why this poster is defending DW? Have they read all the links posted on this thread to news items detailing other behaviour of DW's? Would they still defend him then? It's not 'just' about a couple of crude remarks about two BGT contestants on one occasion.

PalatineHill · 10/11/2022 14:58

Walliams comes over super creepy, I have no idea why some people like his stuff.

A quote from Walliams from the link to what he said on stage in 2007:

'You're a big boy for 16 aren't you – that's what I'll tell the judge.'

This has proper Jimmy Savile "My case comes up next Thursday" vibes. <shudder>.

Luckily my kids have never been that interested in DW's books. Second Katherine Rundell and Eva Ibbotson as good primary adventure books. And the classics, the lion, the witch and the wardrobe, the wind in the willows etc.

A lot of Twitter comments - no-one seems to find it surprising, and he certainly doesn't seem to have many friends

Don’t like him. Strange man. We will find out more in the future I reckon

He does have two million followers though. Wonder who they all are.

What's this 'real story' that Twitter keeps hinting needs to come out?!

ChickinBell · 10/11/2022 16:24

No excuse for him to speak about people like that . I hope he's dropped

I agree, strange ugly character.

That language is shocking, but consistent I would suggest with who he is.

EsmaCannonball · 10/11/2022 16:32

He's one of those celebrities whom everyone finds a bit icky, but because he's overtly icky it's assumed to be part of the act. He's just icky. Creepy. Bleurgh.

Whatifitallgoesright · 10/11/2022 16:46

So publishing industry, what first attracted you to millionaire celebrity David Walliams?

AlecTrevelyan006 · 10/11/2022 16:48

I've never been a fan of is, but nearly everyone has at some point called someone else, and/or been referred to, as a c*. I can't get worked up about this particular incident.

DanglyThings · 10/11/2022 16:50

The things he thought were funny on Little Britain made it totally unwatchable for me, I'll never understand why people liked it, bad taste all round. Just an awful awful man.

Movinghouseatlast · 10/11/2022 17:17

Does nobody remember the News of the World video of him wanking whilst having a private dance in the back room of a lap dancing club? Probably about 15 years ago. It had no effect on his career trajectory at all which always surprised me.

A lot of it has aged badly, but it was hugely popular at the time. It clearly tapped into what a lot of people found acceptable.

I liked some of the earlier stuff.

DeborahVance · 10/11/2022 17:24

I genuinely think there is a lot to come out about David Williams and it will be another big scandal.

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 10/11/2022 17:26

I thought he was gay. Is that Gona be a scandal?! Coming out after being married to Lara stone.

Didn't do Philip Schofield any harm.

Oh I know. And it shouldn't be a scandal either but I can see the daily mail making it one.

One/many that for someone else came out after they were dead and everyone said they knew there was something about him.

At this rate, we'll have to wait for the BBC to do a celebration of his life in about forty years time before anything comes out.

Didn't he have a 17yr old girlfriend back in 2009-ish? Lauren or Laura or something like that? At the time it was all considered very normal but he'd have been around late 30s/early 40s. I think she went on to become some sort of wannabe WAG.

HappyHamsters · 10/11/2022 17:43

He is a real creep who loves showing off, all that silly bromance with Simon, I find him very strange and hope he gets dropped.

Oh I don't know but I wonder if all these women were paid to be with him.
Reading his comments about likening the woman to being in a pub with some boring girl that thinks you want to fuck her but don't, is so horrible.
NOBODY WANTS TO FUCK YOU DAVID.
