To think this is unprofessional?

Doing a teams call to a room full of people with a full view of your unmade bed - I’m not sure it would be better if it was made. It was also someone quite senior.

Or aibu and that’s totally normal?

Nah that's a bit gross. Blur the background FGS!

ABJ100 · 09/11/2022 15:20

Yanbu completely unprofessional. Maybe they thought they had the background changed?

StressedToTheMaxxx · 09/11/2022 15:44

Maybe they're just concentrating on their actual work and don't think that a normal thing in a normal person's house matters.

sweeneytoddsrazor · 09/11/2022 15:51

Well I would (probably) have made the bed, but maybe thats where they have to work.

SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 09/11/2022 15:54

I'd probably be a bit eerrrr but I know I've got weird avoidances. I don't think it's unprofessional.

HowzAboutIt · 09/11/2022 15:56

Very unprofessional and rather 🤑

MsPinkMarshmallow · 09/11/2022 15:58

Bit weird. Also you can generally blur the background so people don't see your house, not sure why they didn't do that.

Bintymcbintface · 09/11/2022 16:03

I don't understand why you give a shit

Anonymous48 · 09/11/2022 16:05

That's definitely unprofessional. It might not actually matter, but it's unprofessional, just like dressing like a slob for a work meeting wouldn't make a difference practically but would be unprofessional.

REP22 · 09/11/2022 16:07

Very unprofessional, particularly of a bed. Should have used a blurred or custom background, that's what I do - my WFH desk is in my bedroom.

CongaLine · 09/11/2022 16:10

Maybe they're channeling their inner Tracey Emin.

WhatATimeToBeAlive · 09/11/2022 16:11

I'd feel weird about random colleagues seeing my bed full stop. I'd definitely blur it or use a template background.

purplemama1990 · 09/11/2022 16:11

Bed in background is fine to me, but I'd expect it to be made. My DH works from home and his desk is in the spare bedroom with bed showing behind him. There's no where else in our home we could fit a desk. Bed is always made and he does blur the background so you can't really see it to be honest.

PBSam · 09/11/2022 16:11

Don't think I'd notice or care. Not like they were sat in their pants in the bed.

CantSleepCountingSheep · 09/11/2022 16:12

Did they realise you could see it?

Fladdermus · 09/11/2022 16:13

I wouldn't do it. But DH takes his laptop down into the cellar to do zoom calls as it's quieter. I think it makes him look like a serial killer and it invades the privacy of all the spiders.

Dixiechickonhols · 09/11/2022 16:15

Etiquette for us at my work would be to blur or use standard background. I don’t but it’s a blank wall behind me.

Are there loads of bottles of wine in the background? I would find that quite distracting trying to see the labels!

fallfallfall · 09/11/2022 16:20

In a world where people wear suits and women expected to wear heels. An unmade bed in the background is sloppy and unprofessional.
I’d be tempted to forward the massively inspirational video from a senior US military general on bedmaking. It’s an amazing video for all you non bed makers.

StarlightLady · 09/11/2022 16:21

I had a work Zoom call with someone who works from a different company to me, knickers drying on an airer in the background! 😂

I don't think they wee very nice knickers either 😮.

Brefugee · 09/11/2022 16:22

in the past i've had people shutting off meetings like that when there are inappropriate backgrounds. We have a choice of 5 corporate backgrounds - it is mandatory to use one. Although for internal meetings we often gang up on the boss and use a viking- ship background

Sadly not. Just mountains of his very important crap that he sticks down there so I don't bin it.

People have been forced to work from home to cut the overheads in offices. If you're working from your home, then I don't see what business it is of anyone if your bed is unmade. Personally I make my bed every morning which some people would find fault at also, but I think it's a bit invasive judging someone by an unmade bed in their own home.

SweetChild0mine · 09/11/2022 16:30

Well it's not ideal but doesn't affect their work?

Back in early covid days not everyone seemed to have clicked onto the blue function, I loved a nosy at peoples house. Some people had some shit decor haha
