Eating an entire 500g tub of sweets

Is that just weird? A man in his 50s, getting through a whole box of (really sickly) jelly sweets in one go? I had one sweet on Halloween night and couldn't even manage that, it was so sickly. The kids had a couple each and didn't go back to them, so they've been just left in the cupboard. Got up to find an empty box this morning, asked dh where he'd put them, thinking possibly he'd moved them to a different container... "I ate them," he said. What would you think? I mean, it's not the world's biggest problem, but I just think it's strange...

I can get through half a kilo of Gourmet Jelly Beans in no time at all...

It's a good job we aren't just clones of each other isn't.

Good for you!

I love sweets and could eat them until I was sick.

Oh yes and I have done! Pick n Mix, you naughty mink 😂

Fluffmum · 10/11/2022 23:44

DH lives on this type of crap food. It’s a one off don’t make a fuss

Toomuchtrouble4me · 10/11/2022 23:53

You couldn’t eat one tangfastic cherry?
I’m envious, If they’re in the house, then I can’t not eat them until my tongue bleeds.

Summerofsyn · 11/11/2022 00:00

Sounds like my DH

HowcanIhelp123 · 11/11/2022 00:09

I'm not a huge fan of sweets so I wouldn't ... but I could 100% get through a 500g bar of chocolate or two if the mood took me 😂

DanglyThings · 10/11/2022 22:58

@DrManhattan @Newname1022 To think this is not normal behaviour for a man in his 50s

I’m in my 50’s …. Love sweets and can do the same if I’m in a glutinous mood 😂😂😂😂

Reigateforever · 11/11/2022 01:07

Usually anything unhealthy asks me to eat it. I hear it calling me even when I have eaten a full meal. I don’t buy such things as I have this problem. I have no control. I buy food daily since on my own.
Richard Osman has even admitted he has a food addiction.

YDBear · 11/11/2022 02:04

You do know that 500g is only just over a pound? I probably wouldn’t choose to eat a pound of sweets but I certainly could if I felt like it.

DH once ate a whole box (I think 36 bags) of crisps in one day... then complained his mouth was sore.

this Reminded me of our housemate at uni who would regularly eat a 6 pack of cheesy wotsits while waiting for his frozen pizza to cook.
there was a good reason he was known as ‘big fat R**’ I think!!
that was one of his many meals most days😂

kennycat · 11/11/2022 04:50

hopefully they weren’t sugar free because sometimes the sugar replacement is a laxative; he’s have the squits for a week 😂

Pinkroom · 09/11/2022 12:35

I had one sweet and could even manage that.. 😂only on mumsnet

She's being unreasonable, I just licked a sweet and that was enough 😂😂😂

Spookypig · 11/11/2022 05:52

Hugasauras · 09/11/2022 12:38

You couldn't even manage one sweet? Hmm

Haha I thought that 😂

So he’s got different tastes to you? That’s okay.

ReneBumsWombats · 11/11/2022 05:57

God, one of these. However, despite the utter delicacy (are you the person who vomits and faints in McDonald's?), you're right, 500g of sweets in one go is too much and it seems it is affecting his dental health. Not sure what you can do about it, though.

DanglyThings · 11/11/2022 07:15

Not even Tangfastics though, which are the decent quality ones, these were horrible cheap things! I know I'm digging myself further in lol. And no I do not faint in McDonalds! I have a very healthy appetite and eat like a horse. Just to prove I'm a normal human, today I'll have a sausage and has brown bap for breakfast at work, a few biscuits with my cup of tea at break time, possibly a Macdonald's for dinner as I'm rushing off to the hairdresser's this afternoon, a few more biscuits when I get home with the kids, chicken pasta and veg for tea, and probably toast and cereal before bed. I think that's reasonably normal. Whereas dh lives on pot noodles, crisps and frozen pizza and doesn't go near a vegetable or fruit. Never mind the sweet binges!

dcthatsme · 11/11/2022 08:19

I'm a sugar addict - so yes I could do that too. It's a sugar binge. It's a pretty gross thing to do and I try not to do it too often!

My Dh has just eaten 1/2 a home made cake. It was there…. and then it wasn’t🤔

Hes not particularly greedy.

Sounds greedy to me ..

Miisty · 13/11/2022 17:22

My husband like this now a Type 2diabetic

AutumnCrow · 13/11/2022 18:50

I used to be able to eat like the OP.

Now I can't. Life, innit.

The OPs husband may well be one, just undiagnosed as yet.

Hopefully not though.

ReneBumsWombats · 13/11/2022 21:32

It wouldn't be a bad idea for him to get tested. A lot of people with diabetes don't have any symptoms until serious damage is done. And the sugar is clearly having a detrimental effect on him.

DanglyThings · 13/11/2022 21:58

He's had a test for diabetes before but it was negative. I'm convinced he is diabetic though, he has all the signs, but even if he was I don't think it would change his habits. It's not just sweets though, he would buy two packs of salmon of it was reduced (from £4.20 to £3.80 ffs, but that's another story) and he'll cook the whole lot and just eat that on its own, where other people would make a meal with other things. Or he'll eat the last three packets of crisps, knowing fine well that ds14 needs a packet in his packed lunch the next day....
