Eating an entire 500g tub of sweets

Is that just weird? A man in his 50s, getting through a whole box of (really sickly) jelly sweets in one go? I had one sweet on Halloween night and couldn't even manage that, it was so sickly. The kids had a couple each and didn't go back to them, so they've been just left in the cupboard. Got up to find an empty box this morning, asked dh where he'd put them, thinking possibly he'd moved them to a different container... "I ate them," he said. What would you think? I mean, it's not the world's biggest problem, but I just think it's strange...

Hang on...were they Tangfastics or regular Haribo?
A whole tub of Tangfastics is quite a challenge.
Not that I've tried..... honestly 🙂

I used to go through Tangfastics by the tub when I quit drinking. Ruined my mouth 😂

This is 500g.

I think I would feel a but sick after all that.

I really want some of those sweets now though.

That's actually less than i was picturing in my head - I'd make short work of that! 😂

Chesterdrawsseriously · 09/11/2022 13:11

Is this a serious thread? You can’t eat one sweet and if you do you’re full the rest of the day? And you think this is normal and your husband is the weird one?

JOFFCV · 09/11/2022 13:12

The massive salad thing does make me laugh though as when we go to a certain pub and I order their bacon & chicken salad with garlic bread and coleslaw I never manage to eat it all. I often think how horrified some Mumsnetters would be. It is huge though and there are only so many tomatoes I can eat in one sitting.

Is this the greedy husband troll?

ShirleywasaLady · 09/11/2022 13:16

Also, Halloween was over a week ago - so if you've only just found the empty box now, he's not eaten them in one go has he? He's eaten them over a week...? I mean, that sounds totally reasonable?!?

I don’t understand many things on here. The massive salad urban legend being one. I have had my share of massive salads and when you add things like meat Ie chicken, bacon, then things like avocado, sauces, coleslaw , croutons, hard boiled eggs it can be a huge meal.

the mythical chicken is another, where people can get a weeks worth of meals from one chicken for a family of four and argue it’s decent portions of the meat.

i also don’t understand the whole toilet brush issue. And am imagining lots of minging folks shoving their hands down there wiping up skid marks with wet loo roll.

but this is the first time I’ve seen someone think it’s abnormal to eat more than one sweet.

luckylavender · 09/11/2022 13:18

You couldn't eat one? Well we're all different. Not an AIBU though.

NoOtherShadeOfBlue · 09/11/2022 13:20

Eating 500g of sweets is as weird as being full all day from eating not quite one sweet. Both suggest extreme and/or compulsive attitudes towards food.

IncompleteSenten · 09/11/2022 13:21

DanglyThings · 09/11/2022 12:44

Ok, it's me then. No problem, thanks for the replies. I do agree I'm a weirdo for not being able to eat a whole one of those sugary pair of cherries things 😅

Oh well, they're just horrible. I wouldn't eat one either 😁

Fairyliz · 09/11/2022 13:24

I don’t think it’s weird but it is greedy especially as you have children in the house.
It also can’t be very good for his health and I speak as someone who has a sweet tooth.
As a one off it’s not too bad but if he does it on a regular basis it will be very bad for his health.

PatriciaHolm · 09/11/2022 13:26

OP didn't say anything about being full from one sweet, she said that it was too sickly for her to eat. I agree - I hate those kind of jelly sweets, I couldn't eat one, but not because they are filling, just horrible as far as I'm concerned. My kids aren't fans either.

If someone did eat a full 500g in one sitting, that's clearly not a normal attitude to eating. That's around 1700 calories, including 250g of sugar.

However, it sounds more likely that they have been eaten over the past 10 days or so.

whatsup00 · 09/11/2022 13:27

TBH I think eating half a kilo of sweets in one sitting is extreme yes.
I haven't tried the pair of cherries sweet so no comment on that. I love the double dips in the picture.

Is he severely constipated after this? I think it would make quite a lot of people unwell actually.

Chuckle94 · 09/11/2022 13:27

He ate the sweets nobody else likes. What’s strange about it?

DanglyThings · 09/11/2022 13:28

The tub was still full at 11pm last night, and empty at 7am this morning. I'm aware I sound nitpickingly crazy, but just giving the details for clarity 😆

Oh, I could absolutely nail a few tubs of Tangfastics. Regular Haribo I’d have to force myself. I’d do it, for the bravado, but the sour tang really helps take the edge off that much sugar.

Chomolungma · 09/11/2022 13:29

It probably wasn't all in one go though? Hallowe'en was over a week ago. If it was all in one go that would be a lot!

FightingFatAt49 · 09/11/2022 13:30

He's an adult - Stop policing what he eats, leave him manage his own diet.

APurpleSquirrel · 09/11/2022 13:33

I think we need some perspective here - this is a 175g bag of Haribo - so 500g would be just under 3 of these bags.
I'd imagine my DH could do that, but I suspect your DH has eaten them over the course of a few days.

OP never once said she was full from one sweet

BitOutOfPractice · 09/11/2022 13:33

You feel full for the rest of the day after half a sweet? C'mon!

I think there's only one weirdo sweet-wise in your relationship.

I mean, I'm not a sweets fan (I could eat my entire body weight in crisps!) but even I could choke down a bag of sweets.

Does he have the shits yet?

APurpleSquirrel · 09/11/2022 13:35

@Cigarettesaftersex1 this is what she said:

Honestly, if I eat one sweet, I feel like I couldn't eat for the rest of the day.
