Come to mine for a 'cuppa'
Do you want a 'cuppa'
Have a 'cuppa'
While we have a 'cuppa'
Urgh

Probably unreasonable, but I just bloody hate it

That's literally what they're called isn't it?

Aren't they called cafes? Coffee shop to me is Australian!

Fancy a brew and we’ll have a look at your leccy hill together hun? Bring hubby too if you want

70billionthnamechange · 10/11/2022 20:14

@DorritLittle oh maybe. My take is that cafes sell food like proper food, brunch lunch etc and coffee shops sell cakes, sandwiches and pastries. I say that because I have a coffee shop and would never call it a cafe for that reason but I could be wrong. Guess it's just what we've grown up with innit

Get your sunnies on and let's get a bevvie!

It's timeless- look at how Georgiana, Duchess of Devonshire affected speech and accents too. It's all stupid until it's fashionable.

I don't understand the "-do" part of language. A hen-do? Why not just a hen party? What's the "do" part? A big to-do?

LikeAStar1994 · 11/11/2022 13:26

It doesn't bother me.

However I did see it spelled as "cupper" in a public Facebook group the other day.

MasterBeth · 15/12/2022 11:04

"Would you like a drink of tea?"

We're having a bit of a do has always been a phrase used up here to denote a party. It might be a regional thing again.

I really really dislike Toasties and Sammy or Sarnie.

Mercurian · 15/12/2022 11:18

Not a fan of Smellies for perfume either... ugh

MamaFirst · 15/12/2022 11:19

I have irrational rage over 'cuppa'. Agh!

xogossipgirlxo · 15/12/2022 11:21

"Cuppa" is my pet peeve too, because it sounds like "kupa" in Polish which means poo 😂When someone asks me if I want a cuppa, you know what I think about.

Marigoldandivy · 15/12/2022 15:06

Funnily enough, I don’t care what it’s called, but the thought of drinking tea is enough to make me gag.

I read a thread earlier which had cuppa on it repeatedly - wondering if that is the reason for it's resurrection!
