I'm looking for a new more modern dressing table as mine is over 30 yrs old and quite large and dark.
I'm going round in circles.
Anyone bought one recently and where from

I have the top half of an ikea pax double wardrobe- so 4 drawers of clothing, one draw of my bits and then the top shelf has d all my bits on it. Best thing is when I shut the doors it disappears.

AMessageToYouRuby · 06/11/2022 22:36

What on earth people are surprised about I don't know, they're sold by nearly every furniture shop and feature in most hotel rooms so can't be that unusual.

I have something very similar to this (which is from Next but mine is vintage) and use the same set up of a triple mirror and storage stool. Mine was my nan's, and replaced my existing dressing table as I think I've always had one having shared a room with older sisters.

Definitely a sociopath as it must be clear and tidy. I have a nice little tray with my perfumes and brushes on the top. Also like a candle, but no other toot, would drive me mad. I do my skincare, hair and make up there twice a day.

Same, but mine is reasonably tall and I have a mirror on top so I stand in front and do my makeup.
Never had a dressing table. If I had a nice big bedroom I'd probably like one though.

I would count that as a dressing table 👍🏼☺️

H1Drangea · 06/11/2022 22:38

Here’s mine
not quite 90 , 2/3 of the way there though

Also, I have the no7 from Boots, light up magnifying mirror. It does need a socket, and mine is 12 years old so they might have changed but I find it very good for when you need an up close angle. I even take it on holiday with me!

Jayneisagirlsname · 06/11/2022 22:48

I'm envious of some of these lovely dressing tables. It makes you all seem very glamorous and sophisticated.

I have absolutely no use for one (and no room). Hair is curly so I let it air dry, no hair dryer or straighteners here. Make up takes 3 mins max and skin care routine is Nivea on twice a day.

The one thing I can't get my head around is how you can bear looking at yourself for so long in a mirror. Makes me shudder.

Herecomesthesunlittledarling · 06/11/2022 22:26

This is beautiful! Do you mind me asking where it's from?

@Herecomesthesunlittledarling Thank you. The dressing table was from Homesense earlier this year. The mirror is a White Company dupe from Dunelm.

MK85 · 06/11/2022 22:56

Just don't go for mirrored it's an absolute nightmare to keep clean

Solonge · 06/11/2022 22:59

Im in my 60s.....I have one, my daughter and daughter in laws have them in their thirties....I work for landed gentry....they have them....and their kids...its where the makeup, hairdryers...triple mirrors all live...the draws contain all the makeup and hairbrushes....not sure why you wouldnt have one.

GoldenCupidon · 06/11/2022 23:08

I’ve got a Futon Co one from a good sale www.futoncompany.co.uk/shop-by-product/furniture/tables/suki-dressing-table.html it’s so sleek I love her

I like the ritual of sitting at my dressing table mirror at night, putting my various creams on whilst thinking 'fuck me when did I get this old' and 'why has someone stuck a photo of an old hag on my mirror' 😂

Hilarious! I bet you’re lovely x

Twoscotcheggsandajarofmarmite · 06/11/2022 23:10

Love my ikea one, have my palettes in the drawer and everything else on the Alex drawer unit next to it.

I often do make-up in bathroom as light is better, but do enjoy my dressing table as it's pretty and I display all my jewellery, ornaments etc on it. The little draws house everything like hairbands and nail varnishes so they're out the way.

The set-ups I've seen here are lovely 😍

I have this it’s from Oliver bonas the mirror is separate but from there as well

Beautiful, is there enough space to pull in with a chair?

Bumpinthenight · 06/11/2022 23:17

🤣
'It's an investment' might work!

Awrite · 06/11/2022 23:18

So many lovely dressing tables. It's making me nostalgic.

I got rid of mine in lockdown and bought a desk (to wfh).

Now desk just sits there and I use my tall mirror for hair and makeup.

Might have to rethink.

Blossomtoes · 06/11/2022 23:22

I really want a dressing table now.

MrsToothyBitch · 06/11/2022 23:24

I am currently using a white 4-cube from Wilko as it's good for storage but I am about to buy this from M&S. It's listed as a desk but I want something with decent depth on the drawers!

I've always had a dressing table - from living at home as a teenager and in each home I've lived in since. Another one that has an ikea malm dressing table. Love the long shallow drawer - just the right depth to keep all your make up and bits without it all getting cluttered, I have some cutlery trays inside to keep things organised. I have a bathroom mirror with built in lights above it as I couldn't place it near a window for natural light. I have this ikea unit next to it and keep my jewelry in the top 3 shallow drawers and hair stuff and other random crap in the others.

I couldn't do my make-up in the bathroom - it'd be all steamy from just having had a shower and dh is usually waiting to get in there after me. You also then have to go elsewhere to do your hair as you can't plug a hairdryer in in the bathroom.

CottonHeadedNinnyMug · 06/11/2022 23:29

Well this is mine www.barkerandstonehouse.co.uk/tables/monza-dressing-table

I inherited a little bit of money and I've bought it as a gift from my grandparents to me. My daughter is obsessed with it and I hope she will keep it!

I can't imagine not having it. I had a console table there before and in a previous house I had a shelf and a chair instead.

NowNumber5 · 06/11/2022 23:30

@Blibbleflibble
Orbit oak dressing table from brand interiors bought 6 years ago though. X

😂
Love this - it’s like ‘Spot The Difference’.

I’m gutted though, I’m only 89 so shall have to wait another year to get one!

beachcitygirl · 06/11/2022 23:35

Can't take pictures as covered in make up and mess but my 17year old has a kidney shaped dressing table with curtains (laura ashley fabric) and she loves it. I have a walnut Art Deco piece but would love a futuristic style piece

LaLoba · 06/11/2022 23:43

Alright AIBU, I’ll bite (and no, I haven’t read the full thread, it has been a long, hard Sunday). If you don’t have a dressing table, where is your skincare, toiletries, make up, hair products, brushes, hairdryer etc?
OP, mine’s a 1930s one I got from an antiques place about 20 years ago. Am intending to rejuvenate it, but have been intending for a while, so who knows when I’ll get around to it!

Whoopy · 06/11/2022 23:51

I’ve just bought my little granddaughter her first dressing table. She absolutely loves it, great for her makeup and hair accessories! She’s 3 (going on 13), I’m nearly 93. 👵🏻😁

Hereforthelaugh · 06/11/2022 19:06
