I'm looking for a new more modern dressing table as mine is over 30 yrs old and quite large and dark.
I'm going round in circles.
Anyone bought one recently and where from

I use a computer desk as my dressing table and have the mirror on the wall above it like this one

Specks this is it - few variations and colours

I have this one - not my photo. Its willis & gambier, absolutely love it and I've had it for nearly 20 years. I recovered the footstool in red velvet to match my scheme.

I have this, got one with lights as the lighting in the bedroom is terrible and I was getting very fed up of trapping back & forth to the bathroom & trying to do my hair in a doorway. I love having somewhere to sit and get ready.

Adding a photo of my ingenious hack - I put a screw in and I hang my hairdryer underneath which keeps it nicely out of the way.

Where would you wear your dressing gown if you don't have a dressing table fgs???

Geppili · 07/11/2022 00:13

I'm a sprightly 88.

StarbucksSmarterSister · 07/11/2022 01:25

I have one but it's an old vintage mahogany thing

Ooh can we see it please? I bet it's gorgeous!

Fourcandleforkhandle · 07/11/2022 02:21

I don't have space for a dressing table ( everything of mine is just on the bedside cabinet). But Daughters have one' I made'. Just used baskets for storage of makeup etc. Mirror is just an old one painted white. Does the job!

I'm jealous of all your dressing tables. I'm 51 and I've always wanted one but never had the room. I have a mirror that I crouch down to every morning to dry my hair but my knees are starting to complain about this situation these days. 🙄

GreenTea70 · 07/11/2022 04:45

OP - This is the mirror. Comes highly recommended

Is there anybody on mumsnet who does their make up and their dry hair in the bathroom in front of the mirror? All my friends do it there.

I would like a dressing table, but in my bedroom it is a choice between dressing table and chest of drawers and considering the fact I live in a small apartment, chest of drawers it is.

PassThePud · 07/11/2022 07:27

Not a dressing table, but I have this built into the wardrobe.

Here's mine. Got it on gumtree a few years ago. Grew up watching my mum using hers everyday and it seemed like a normal thing to do.

That's lovely 😍.

DannyGary · 07/11/2022 12:09

Where do you store your makeup, do your hair, do your skincare?!

I don't wear make up.
My face cream sits next to the sink.
I don't own a brush or comb.
My hairdryer hangs on a hook next to the bathroom basin (not in UK so there is a plug).

a1poshpaws · 07/11/2022 12:42

I'd show you mine, which I was ridiculously thrilled to find for £120 only 5 months ago, as it's my dream dressing table - but it's exactly what you're trying to get a change from I think! It's a dark wood 5 drawer with triple mirrors and gilt handles - 50's to 60's era perhaps? I'm 69. 🙄😂

Here are some which are really modern - is this too far the otherway?

If I hadn't had my heart set on the exact vintage one I've got, I might have fallen for the one with the drawers down the side, myself.

I'm not sure if these ones come built or flatpack: you'd need to read carefully and maybe need a local handyman or relative to build it if flatpack - always supposing you're like me, "handless" and not 2 of my friends who do every single thing including carpet laying, themselves.😉

I love the idea of this but....

(1) My husband gets up much later than I do, so could never have one in the bedroom as it's always still dark when I leave for work....

(2) I like to be very close to the mirror when applying make up, so would be constantly craning my neck Confused

(3) Lighting! How are you all getting the lighting right? Surely window-facing tables are no good on winter mornings? Do you all have 'Hollywood-style' bulb-lit mirrors?

Is everyone situating these lovely dressing in spare bedrooms, to get round the above? Feeling a bit dressing-table-dense here.....
