I'm looking for a new more modern dressing table as mine is over 30 yrs old and quite large and dark.
I'm going round in circles.
Anyone bought one recently and where from

I have one but it's an old vintage mahogany thing so not at all what you are looking for.

I thought most people had one?! I keep all my makeup and jewellery in/on it and use when I get ready.

I love my dressing table! I used to have the IKEA one but found a gorgeous one 2nd hand in a vintage shop and couldn't resist. The lights are from Amazon

That's beautiful

MotherOfPuffling · 06/11/2022 22:05

I got mine years ago from Vinterior. Too messy for a pic, but have found a stock pic of it. Picture doesn’t really do it justice, it’s lovely. When I sold my last house the estate agent tried to persuade me to sell it to them!

You've inspired me! Have a small chest of drawers by my bed with a gold model dummy I bought for £10 on it. Also have a £10 marketplace mirror lurking on the landing. Will get sourcing a stool or chair!

Redup · 06/11/2022 22:09

Are you a man or a woman OP? That will help us answer.

SuperlativeOxymoron · 06/11/2022 22:10

Yeah... @Bumpinthenight I didn't actually see that price tag. Although the equity in the sale will allow it, pretty sure DH will tell me to get stuffed 🤣

Bluevelvetsofa · 06/11/2022 22:15

Mine’s from M&S

I don't have one but I'm watching because my 12 year old has asked for one for Christmas. Will tell her she's 78 years too early.

TheOGCCL · 06/11/2022 22:17

I use a desk with three drawers - one drawer is not enough for all my paraphernalia. One side has shelves so use that for my hairdryer. Plus flat mirror acrylic across the full width. Inspired by this picture

@Mushroo yes a parallel universe exactly! I'm starting to feel I have been missing out all these years. Thank you everyone who has confirmed that they do indeed sit down at a special place to do makeup.

To answer the same question, I keep my (very few) make up bits in my handbag in the hall cupboard. Make up is applied (rarely, and rapidly) on the way out the door with brief reference to the mirror in the hallway, while I shout "get your shoes on" and "has anyone seen my car keys?!". I asked about random crap because the top of my chest of drawers would be my nearest equivalent to a dressing table and it usually has the contents of my pockets, washing waiting to be put away, Duplo 'ornaments', books I might read, that kind of thing.

I imagined this was normal, but it seems there is a better way!

Specksofwhiteallaround · 06/11/2022 22:18

@ColonelNobbyNobbs where did the blue storage basket come from if you don’t mind my asking?

ScrambledOrPoached · 06/11/2022 22:19

I have a dressing table. A little luxury that I love after years of sitting on the floor.

however I like traditional furniture so no point sharing a pic as not modern.

Lachie · 06/11/2022 22:22

@Davethecat2000 that is gorgeous and my favourite one of this thread. It reminds me of one I spotted in a vintage shop except it had a large circular mirror and was pistachio green. Very 1960s or 70s I think?

I even like the sound of the one OP has, all dark wood and old.

(Generally why is everyone piling on the poster who asked if OP was 90, they likely have got the message by now!)

EasterIssland · 06/11/2022 22:22

I need one but I’m not finding what I want. 80-90cm long. And with no mirror. I loved one but was on the big side(120) and husband said no as it’d be blocking access to the boiler

FunnysInLaJardin · 06/11/2022 22:25

I have a dressing table, its an antique desk with all my makeup and a mirror on it.

How do you cope without one? Where do you do your hair and makeup?

cherrysprinkles · 06/11/2022 22:25

Also have the ikea one. Love the fact I can hide all my stuff in the drawer!

ScoobyDoo80 · 06/11/2022 22:25

I have one! I actually bought it from Next about twelve years ago.

It’s white and made of tempered glass-loads of storage. I have one of those big white mirrors with the lights around on top and do my hair/make up sitting at it each day.

I was lucky to have room for it when I moved house as I’m very used to using now.

PeloFondo · 06/11/2022 22:26

For anyone that needs a closer mirror this was my solution (short sighted!)
Got some glass stands to raise the mirror to the weight height (useful for storage too) and then I have a separate light up mirror on top

Usually apologise for the mess but I love makeup and own lots of it so I'm stopping apologising Grin
Then I got a 3 cube storage box for next to it for extra storage

This is mine. I love it because it’s pretty small. We have quite a lot of storage in our room so baskets for appliances etc in nearby cupboards.

This is beautiful! Do you mind me asking where it's from?

clare8allthepies · 06/11/2022 22:26

I love mine, I was so excited to finally get one when we moved into this house and had enough space in our bedroom. Photo from Amazon as mine is a complete mess at the moment. Use the big mirror to do my hair when I’m wearing my glasses but I use a light up mirror from boots to do my make up as I need it much closer!

the Madrid table at the futon company is W90 x H72 x D50cm and no mirror

SmokedHaddockChowder · 06/11/2022 22:27

"Where do people who don't have dressing tables doing their hair and make-up? On their floor?? Can just imagine makeup stains everywhere!"

I shower, then get back into bed and do my makeup sitting up in bed, using a handheld mirror, drinking tea!
I then do my hair infront of my leaner mirror. I've set it up with a professional bracket to hold my hairdryer, and made sure the hairdryer has a white cord to blend into the wall!

Are you 90? Surely nobody has a 'dressing table' anymore?

I grew up with one. Then for 20 years went without. Just got a new one. Why did I wait so long. It’s modern and functional and not just for makeup (I don’t wear a lot) but it has helped me with my hair routine (simple) skincare, keeping all beauty products in one place plus stuff like deodorant perfumes nightly beauty regime (I do 47skin). It’s also where I do my diary. I used an antique stool and bought a lovely mirror light combo. It’s where I pluck and style myself before leaving my house. I’m not young or old but I really missed having this. And guess what. I look loads better for it. Bathroom wasn’t cutting it for me.

KezzabellaB · 06/11/2022 22:34

This one's mine. I am also not 90! Grin
