I'm looking for a new more modern dressing table as mine is over 30 yrs old and quite large and dark.
I'm going round in circles.
Anyone bought one recently and where from

Do people have dressing tables? I don't think I've ever had one. I'm not even entirely sure what they are, like, do you mean those tables with mirrors you see in period dramas, where people sit and brush their hair and admire themselves while their husband pads up behind them and slips a surprise heirloom diamond necklace round their neck?

😂😂

flippetyflaps · 06/11/2022 21:23

This is mine. It's from Loaf. I'm just over 50% of 90.

I much prefer to use my en-suite bathroom sink. It has a big surround and drawers underneath for the makeup.

makes cleaning up the powder / spilt makeup so much easier

I have the IKEA one. It’s great 👍🏻 I can’t imagine NOT having a dressing table tbh!

Snap! I love it, sleek and minimal with a really wide drawer.

Apartridgeinachestnuttree · 06/11/2022 21:26

I use this with a big silver mirror on it! Love it.

Another 90 year old here 🤚, (minus 50 years). I have a dressing table from m&s with three drawers each side and a big mirror in the middle. I've had it 12 plus years, its lasted really well, I have just bought a new stool for it though!

Bigslippers · 06/11/2022 21:33

I’m far too young at 87 to have a dressing table. Waiting for the big NINE OH to have one

AbsoluteTruths · 06/11/2022 21:33

I have a 1920s Art Deco desk with tonnes of storage and a mirror that lifts from the side. I can't imagine not having a dressing table! It's where you do make up, blow dry, skin care, store your products/perfumes. Even if I had a tiny room, I would care out a space for one.

Really love that Oliver Bonas table though...

90yomakeuproom · 06/11/2022 21:34

I have a dressing table which I use every single day!
Also (shock horror), said table is in a designated 'make up room' in my house!
I'm 90 years old too and can't wait for the comments 'omg Barbara you actually have a room in your house just for make up' 🤣
P.s name changed as some people will recognise

I have a chest of drawers from dunelm and a mirror on the wall and sit of my bed. I'd love a dressing table but don't have the room.

SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 06/11/2022 21:36

Mine is a mid-century Heal’s one that I picked up for peanuts at our local auction house.

Mine came with a triple mirror. It holds so much stuff. I do my makeup on the bed, obvs.

StarbucksSmarterSister · 06/11/2022 21:36

OP, You will also need one of these sets.

Suitable for age 85 upwards. 😁

@whatisforteamum I just bought my very first one back in April and I love mine. I'm 36 btw. I bought it from wayfair. It's white high gloss (great, easy to clean, no staining) and it has 4 drawers. I specifically wanted 4 deep drawers. One for hairdryer/Straightners. One for hair products/brushes/bobbles etc. One for moisturisers/deodrant/sprays and my top one for make with drawer dividers in it. It came with a table top mirror (and a stool) & I only have a jewlerry box and perfume sitting on it. (Less stuff to collect dust, less stuff to move when cleaning)

I really love having somewhere to sit and get ready and having somewhere for all my bits and pieces to go in. I say go for it, if you want one, you will love it.

Don't understand the age comments at all.. better than sitting on the floor at a mirror or worse, standing for ages doing the boring task of drying your hair.

CinderCellar · 06/11/2022 21:44

I love having a dressing table but none of my friends have one, it’s so convenient, I don’t get why you wouldn’t have one if you have the space but I’m definitely in the minority!

TheHateIsNotGood · 06/11/2022 21:44

Nope, I will not show you my dressing table as it's covered in acoutrements and trinkets in disarray all veiled in a thick layer of dust.

When I get it back in order I will happily show it to you.

fannyfartlet · 06/11/2022 21:47

MIne became my WFM space during lockdown and still hosts my computer set-up. I thought I'd miss it but I've just migrated into my en-suite instead with a couple of baskets on the sink top.

Davethecat2000 · 06/11/2022 21:51

Mine doubles up as my bedside table.

It cost £10 from a charity shop.

This is mine, sorry for the bad lighting (and yes I removed some crap before I took the photo).

I have the smaller Ikea desk, really wanted the Malmo but thought it was too long for the space I have. But this one is fine too, the drawer keeps all my skincare stuff in it (Ikea also do nice drawer inserts for you to keep things separate). The only issue I have with this desk is that the white surface gets dirty quite easily, whereas the Malmo has a glass top so would have been easier to clean.

Whoever said they are for 90 year olds is way out of the loop - most 20 - 30 year olds covet them these days, only they call them Vanity tables.

I'm not mad into makeup, but use mine everyday for putting in my contact lenses, doing my hair and applying skincare. It's just part of my morning/ evening routine. Before, I used to have to sit on the side of my bed with a handheld mirror and put stuff on my windowsill, very annoying. I feel like a proper grown up now :-)

I need drawers, drawers and more drawers. So my dressing table is a 6 drawer malm, with a big mirror on top. I find standing easier to do makeup.

Scottishgirl85 · 06/11/2022 21:58

We got our carpenter to build a wee corner one when doing the dressing room. Could'nt be without it, and I was 35 at the time!

Yes just turned 90

That's you told @Fufumcgoo !! 😂

SnappyCroco · 06/11/2022 22:02

Here is mine OP. I love it, got it from Cotswold Company. The mirror has little drawers under it and the top drawers have dividers for jewellery.

I will be 90 next week too 😂

I’d love a proper antique type one but currently have a small IKEA desk with a little mirror that lights up when you open it.

Mine is similar to this - had it for years and have always had a dressing table in my bedroom . Can’t imagine not tbh . Here
