I'm looking for a new more modern dressing table as mine is over 30 yrs old and quite large and dark.
I'm going round in circles.
Anyone bought one recently and where from

I have this one - not my photo. Its willis & gambier, absolutely love it and I've had it for nearly 20 years. I recovered the footstool in red velvet to match my scheme.

This is mine too! I have the bedside tables as well. Love it.

Habreathmint · 07/11/2022 16:20

I'm gutted that no-one loved mine! 😪

AnnaA89 · 07/11/2022 17:46

People asking about your age! I have a vintage 1930s Art Deco dressing table my MIL gave me! I love it!

wishfulthinking93 · 07/11/2022 17:46

On move in day so it doesn’t look so tidy anymore 😂

Have you tried looking for a posh looking sideboard or desk and table top mirror, nowdays there's not much call for a dressing table because most people get ready to go out in the bathroom but a sideboard and table topped mirror or even a desk and table topped mirror would have the same effect. Depending on whether you want one you can sit under or not if so a desk is probably best with some storage either side. Your other alternative is to look at antique or second hand furniture stores for them.

Cottagewitch · 07/11/2022 17:53

I'm mid 30s and I have one, can't imagine where I'd do my hair and makeup if I didn't. I won't post a photo though as it won't help as mine's ancient (my gran got it when she got married, always loved it so I got it when she passed away).

myfaceismyown · 07/11/2022 17:54

I got a genuine Art Deco one from a charity shop and painted it white. It has a massive round mirror and bags of storage as drawers are big enough for straighteners etc. and a middle cuboard for tall stuff. No I am not 90 either....

AllHunsBlazing · 07/11/2022 17:55

@Bekstar nowdays there's not much call for a dressing table

Have you googled “dressing table”? I made the mistake of doing this, inspired by the OP, and have spent literal hours looking through the hundreds and hundreds of beautiful options that come up. I don’t recommend this if you don’t have time to waste!

itsmellslikepopcarn · 07/11/2022 17:56

I wish I had room for one. My current set up is doing make up ontop of a blanket on the sofa, and hair stood at the mirror on my wardrobe 😂

Shortkiwi · 07/11/2022 18:00

I didn’t have one until recently and I love it. I bought a Stag dressing table and painted it. Don’t know how I survived without it!

West Elm for me.

AppleDumplingWithCustard · 07/11/2022 18:11

Mine is a seven drawer chest from the Cotswold Company. They do actual dressing tables with a knee-hole but I preferred not to have wasted space so as to maximise the storage.

Is there anybody on mumsnet who does their make up and their dry hair in the bathroom in front of the mirror? All my friends do it there.

I would like a dressing table, but in my bedroom it is a choice between dressing table and chest of drawers and considering the fact I live in a small apartment, chest of drawers it is.

Yes me. I let my hair dry naturally but I would use my bathroom mirror for makeup. I also don’t know anyone with a dressing table. It would be a bit of a waste of furniture for me anyway, as I spend about 3 minutes at most doing makeup and hair every day, no need to bother sitting down for it at a designated table.

whatsup00 · 07/11/2022 18:21

Some of these look really professional. I am 93 and I do not have one (yet!).

Davethecat2001 · 07/11/2022 18:21

@Cottagewitch yours sounds lovely! I'd love to see it!

Pearshaped20 · 07/11/2022 18:22

I only have a small room, I have one of those lean to desks which works for me

Alright AIBU, I’ll bite (and no, I haven’t read the full thread, it has been a long, hard Sunday). If you don’t have a dressing table, where is your skincare, toiletries, make up, hair products, brushes, hairdryer etc?
OP, mine’s a 1930s one I got from an antiques place about 20 years ago. Am intending to rejuvenate it, but have been intending for a while, so who knows when I’ll get around to it!

Skincare, toiletries, hair products in a bathroom cabinet, make-up in a travel bag in the bedroom wardrobe that I carry into the bathroom to use. I don’t use a hairdryer. We do have one but I have it to my teenager who keeps it under their bed to use occasionally.

spacewitch99 · 07/11/2022 18:23

Never had one. Ever. Age 50+ and feeling like I have missed out! 😆

wentworthinmate · 07/11/2022 18:24

Not an actual dressing table but it’s what I use it for. IKEA Malm tall boy (stole their photo but similar contents to mine).
