AIBU to think this is not tat

Recently purchased this rather gorgeous glass and metal pineapple from our local charity shop. I love it, but DH thinks it's ugly tat. Obviously he's wrong and has no appreciation for it's beauty. Maybe you lovely MN'ers can settle this argument for me.

YANBU, it's divine.
YABU, it's tat.

Obviously I know what this answer is 😁...If anyone has one, or knows where it's from I'd be intrigued to know, I'm thinking TKMaxx.

You missed your chance. You should have hidden it and given it to DP for Xmas.

Does it light up too, to add to the tat-factor?

SuperCamp · 05/11/2022 13:21

I like the anti assassination positioning.

I wonder which art gallery it came from?

WhoWillSaveYourSouls · 05/11/2022 13:23

The creative side of me wants to turn it into a statement lamp. Just need to get it into my workshop 🤣

WaddleAway · 05/11/2022 13:23

Oh bless you OP, I hate it but I genuinely love that you love it so much. Everyone should love the objects in their house!

FlickyCrumble · 05/11/2022 13:23

I’d be having my pina colada’s in that at Christmas. Is there a hole for a straw?

RoaryMouth · 05/11/2022 13:24

I was expecting some retro beauty…

Longdarkcloud · 05/11/2022 13:25

It’s fine as it is OP, don’t be persuaded by mners who suggest painting it. As to the
“ blue “ leaves, pineapple leaves often do have a bluish caste to them. Here it makes the objet d’art more dramatic.
In 50 years’ time it will be worth a bomb and your grandchildren will bless you OP

CandidaAlbicans2 · 05/11/2022 13:27

Wow, it's a statement piece isn't it! 😁It's tat, but the sort of tat that I'd embrace as "art"...just 😁I mean, just look at all the overpriced "art" around (IMHO of course) that many people rave over, so what's the difference apart from a few hundred plus quid

NameChangeForARaisin · 05/11/2022 13:27

Ice bucket?
Its gloriously hideous.

grayhairdontcare · 05/11/2022 13:27

It's fucking horrible

LydiaBennetsUglyBonnet · 05/11/2022 13:28

I love that! It I do have a penchant for quirky ornaments!

Herejustforthisone · 05/11/2022 13:31

It’s a pearlescent and blue ornamental pineapple. It’s shit.

Daisy62 · 05/11/2022 13:32

I hate it but everyone has their own taste. If you love it, enjoy!

halfsiesonapotnoodle · 05/11/2022 13:32

It's absolutely awful and lacking in taste!

WeepingSomnambulist · 05/11/2022 13:32

Pineapples used to be the height of upper class. When they were first imported, they weren't eaten. They were displayed at parties. People would actually rent a pineapple to display if they were hosting a party as they were so expensive and so hard to get and just screamed decadence and wealth if you had one on display in your home.

We've gone from that to pineapples being available in every sort of colour and design for us to display. They dont exactly scream decadence anymore when you see tat like that.

TrippyLily · 05/11/2022 13:33

Burn it.

Beachsidesunset · 05/11/2022 13:33

It looks like Exhibit A in a murder trial ...

LolaSmiles · 05/11/2022 13:34

It's tat to me I'm afraid, but you have my sympathy as DH thinks some of my find are tat as well.

Kennykenkencat · 05/11/2022 13:38

ShinyS1 · 05/11/2022 12:01

I paid £8 for it, a bargain! At least there's a few people on here who have great taste 😁...I was going to show this thread triumphantly to DH, but maybe not, ha.

You actually paid money????

🤣🤣🤣

Purplecatshopaholic · 05/11/2022 13:39

I have looked at it so long now, I have gone over to the dark side and decided it’s divine and I want one!

That's interesting, the history of pineapples symbolising decadence and wealth, unfortunately we are neither decadent nor wealthy!

Ignoring the second paragraph, naturally 😁

It’s so astonishingly awful DH could cite it as unreasonable pineapple in his inevitable divorce petition. Can you compromise by keeping it in the bin?

It's growing on me too. Especially with the symbolism.

DramaAlpaca · 05/11/2022 13:48

That's glorious! I want one
