AIBU to think this is not tat

Recently purchased this rather gorgeous glass and metal pineapple from our local charity shop. I love it, but DH thinks it's ugly tat. Obviously he's wrong and has no appreciation for it's beauty. Maybe you lovely MN'ers can settle this argument for me.

I tried that, it didn't come up.

I definitely thought tat, but it doesn’t look too bad where you have put it. I think it would look better still with a green top instead of blue.

It's a shame there wasn't a match, but you have ideas now for a collection.

These were popular in the late 50s and 60s, used as an ice bucket on your drinks trolley. Exotic, innit.

Matter of opinion tbh, if you love it its divine if he hates it its tat, is it a biscuit barrel or just art? I can see in the right kitsch quirky style house it could look cool. Don't think I would particularly go for it personally but if it was a bargain Nd you love it and it brings you joy happy days

I really can’t think of any reason someone would give such a lovely piece away to a charity shop in the first place. Unless, maybe check it with a black light, op? Looks like it could inflict some nasty slash wounds and blunt force trauma in the hands of someone with anger issues (possibly anger issues caused by having such a unique item on display in the living room). Maybe someone wanted to dispose of incriminating evidence, and thought oxfam would be the last place the police would think of looking?

You could file the blade edges down, spray the top gold, remove the iridescent finish with some acetone, and fill the jar with rum or brandy or chloroform to calm the nerves of the other people who share your home.

This thread is lovely. Although, now that I’ve seen the DEDICATED side table for the pineapple, er, what is that hanging above it on the wall? Is it a mixed media wall hanging that’s also part metal and part something else? Maybe you have a tat style, @ShinyS1 ? Part metal, part __?

OP, it is so stunningly awful that it is amazing and should take pride of place in your house. If lights won't show from inside it then you should drape them over it, little battery ones, to make it really stand out. Maybe a neon sign over it would be good too .

I love it, in the right spot where the irridescence catches the light. If yoh have touches of teal in the room then it's a no brainer fab bargain!

I’m on team ‘divine tat’ too! It’s naff and kitschy and I kinda love it. I’m also happy to hear how happy it makes you! Something that makes you smile that much is definitely worth the £8 you paid for it. Go forth and enjoy your fabulous camp pineapple!

If you stick lights inside and paint the blue "leaves" gold you might get away with people thinking it's an ironically blingy look rather than you actually like tat.
