I think smokers are just so selfish

Not just because of the disgusting smell, but because of everything needing 10/15 mins advance notice.

'Yes I'm ready, just nipping out for a cigarette and then we can go' etc.

Really annoying.

No one cares if you stop smoking or not. We just don't want you doing it around us.

In public, where it's legal, I'll do it where and when I want. Cry about it.

You sound awfully defensive and aggressive. Is this thread upsetting you?

Why on earth would you think the anti smoking brigade would upset me. I don't even know you. Weirdo. Love watching the self righteous indignation though.

I'm surprised that such an Internet badass would get so butthurt about the simple truth that smoking, like not washing or brushing your teeth, makes you smell bad.

roarfeckingroarr · 04/11/2022 21:24

It's a disgusting habit and it's incredibly selfish. I hate seeing parents out with small children when the adults are puffing away. What an awful example and those poor kids breathing in smoke and probably having their things smell of smoke too. Especially families with a low income - it just seems worse spending money on tobacco when money is tight and kids are going without other things. Weak and selfish.

The self righteous of the anti smoker is quite funny though

What is truly funny is the way that the smokers have proven the OPs point without even realising they are doing it 😂

LesterBiggott · 05/11/2022 07:25

That's an example on what you find truly funny eh? You must be great fun and very popular at parties with your witty repetoire and high bar for comedy. 😉

carefulcalculator · 05/11/2022 07:39

There's some ridiculous judgement on here and I'm also quite tired of the word 'selfish' being used to describe 'legal things other people do that I disagree with'.

Smoking is undoubtedly extremely unhealthy and does smell. But the link between mental health issues and smoking is strong/well known and nicotine is very hard to give up, although nicotine replacements help especially vaping.

No one's crying. Calm down.

We just think people with your attitude are selfish and inconsiderate. And will no doubt start whinging about the 'nanny state' if the smoking ban is extended to other places.

Unlike the smokers huddled outside telling each other smokers are more fun.

Stephy1886 · 05/11/2022 07:47

Don’t get me started on the ones that stand outside the hospital doors. Signs everywhere not to smoke but you have to hold your breath & walk through a cloud of fag smoke
“tonight Mathew I’m going to be!….”

it’s always the same reply’s “I’ve seen Drs & nurses smoking”
“im stressed being in hospital!”

stop being selfish & stand away from the entrance

Most smokers don't have mental health issues though. They just enjoy smoking. And that's up to them as long as it doesn't impact on other people.

But people smoking around other people who are eating, waiting in a shelter for a bus, or queuing at an ATM machine or who stand in doorways forcing people to walk through a cloud of smoke are very annoying, whether they want to believe it or not.

How would you know what smokers huddle around and talk about? You don't smoke.

When they return the smoking shelters that aren't miles away, so that people don't get wet, then I'm sure smokers will be happy to stand away from the entrance. Really though, non smokers brought this on themselves by trying to push smokers out rather than accomodating their needs. Now we're huddled round a door near you. Deal with it.

Our trust banned smoking across all hospital sites. It was to encourage less smokers, rather than to punish them. If you don't want to get wet, skip a cigarette.

LesterBiggott · 05/11/2022 08:45

I don't need to get wet. If I want to smoke I'll huddle round the door.
Removing the shelters didn't really do much to discourage people did it, patients and hospital staff alike. If you don't want people huddling round the door then campaign for shelters. Or deal with it.

Deal with it haha

great stuff from a complete omelette of a person
huddling around hospital entrances. Enjoy

ReneBumsWombats · 05/11/2022 09:02

There's something so weird about a smelly person with tar-filled lungs and a prematurely ageing body, increasing their chances of cancer and developing smoker's cough, huddling round a shelter to avoid getting wet while puffing, telling everyone else to cry about it and deal with it.

Awe, great insults from people frustrated that can't get their own way. When failing, resort to name calling 😂

The world is made up of all sorts isnt it. People that smoke. People that hate it. People that resort to insults in place of discussion, people that just get on with their lives and accept that people have different opinions. What a diverse world indeed.

MrsSkylerWhite · 05/11/2022 09:40

Smoking isn’t just an opinion, though. It’s a dangerous crutch that affects the health of others forced to put up with it by partners/parents/caters, etc.
thankfully, it’s becoming incredibly rare.

LesterBiggott · 05/11/2022 09:44

In your opinion.

Surely you understand that huddling round the door to a cancer ward (as per PP) is incredibly selfish, regardless of your reasoning, and thus proves the OP's point?
