I think smokers are just so selfish

Not just because of the disgusting smell, but because of everything needing 10/15 mins advance notice.

'Yes I'm ready, just nipping out for a cigarette and then we can go' etc.

Really annoying.

Awe, great insults from people frustrated that can't get their own way. When failing, resort to name calling 😂

Then you have folk like yourself who can’t walk the length of themselves to the smoking shelter. Subjecting people to their smoke.
“I don’t want to get wet”. Use a jacket or umbrella. Or is that beyond your comprehension?

LesterBiggott · 05/11/2022 10:39

Or is that beyond your comprehension?

Nope. I just can't be bothered :-)

In your opinion“

well, no. In the opinion of oncologists, too.

It's a little more nuanced than that.

Lazy and just subjecting to your ignominious behaviour :-)

*At the entrance are large NHS signs saying “this is a non smoking site - you can’t smoke outside the building or anywhere on site”

Huddled outside as we go in are usually around 5-10 patients, ranging from 20s to 70s in age, puffing away and not turning away, so my DD , a cancer patient, gets greeted with plumes of smoke every time we go in

The NHS trust when challenged point to the signage - there’s little else they feel they can do

I live near a large hospital site/campus on which smoking is banned. I often walk along a footpath adjacent to the site and see hospital staff there on fag breaks - but patients just stand outside the buildings!

Most smokers don't have mental health issues though. They just enjoy smoking. And that's up to them as long as it doesn't impact on other people.

But people smoking around other people who are eating, waiting in a shelter for a bus, or queuing at an ATM machine or who stand in doorways forcing people to walk through a cloud of smoke are very annoying, whether they want to believe it or not.

I'd be interested in the date behind your assertion 'most smokers don't have mental health issues' because the research for a long time has been that smoking is linked to depression and anxiety, as with problem drinking etc.

Most people who smoke want to give up, but due to the extremely addictive nature of nicotine it is usual for people to have to attempt to give up many times before finally managing it.

Of course people smoking around other people is annoying, it is also damaging to other people's health if indoors. The health impact of occasionally inhaling some smoke when walking in the street is very minor, certainly much less than an average daiy dose of car emissions - my personal heath is definitely more impacted by car emissions than by smokers, due to never being indoors with a smoker any more.

The world is made up of all sorts isnt it. People that smoke. People that hate it. People that resort to insults in place of discussion, people that just get on with their lives and accept that people have different opinions. What a diverse world indeed.

Insults? I'm sorry if the truth offends you.

Are you saying the majority ofvsmokers have mental health issues? I'd be interested in seeing your data on that.

Topsyturvy78 · 05/11/2022 21:18

Yes they are selfish and light up outside without even considering anyone else nearby. Who might have asthma or any other underlying health condition.

If I am waiting at a bus stop in the pouring rain with my son who obviously has a disability. You can guarantee someone will come along and light up. It's us that end up standing in the rain.

My son has siezures and cigarette smoke is one of his triggers. Non of my family are smokers. Nearly every time someone has lit up near him he has had a siezure. Then they stand there all concerned like what's wrong with him. Just f*off with your cancer stick. That's what has caused it

It's a disgusting filthy habit and makes you stink. Don't know how anyone can afford it anymore anyway. And don't get me started on people that smoke right outside the front door of a pub. When there's a perfectly good beer garden to smoke in.

Topsyturvy78 · 05/11/2022 21:23

You definitely don't there was a hospital that completely banned smoking in the grounds. It was that bad newborn babies leaving the hospital were breathing it in. Imagine being hour's old and your first breath of air outside is full of nicotine.

I worked in a kid's hospital that banned smoking on the grounds. No one would do anything though, because the parents smoking in the door way of the hospital would pull the "sick kid" card all the time. And they would get way with it too.

Topsyturvy78 · 05/11/2022 21:27

Yes I hate that especially when you have a young child and like can you move away I don't want smoke in they're face thanks.

vodkaredbullgirl · 05/11/2022 21:29

Not all of us or inconsiderate, I don't even smoke when out and about.

PurpleButterflyWings · 05/11/2022 21:30

I think calling someone an absolute OMELETTE, may be my new favourite insult. 🤣

vodkaredbullgirl · 05/11/2022 21:30

are, that should have said

Topsyturvy78 · 05/11/2022 21:32

I noticed that when I left a children's hospital. We were waiting outside for a lift. Only seen one actually use the smoking shelter.

Moidershewrote · 05/11/2022 21:40

All smokers do smell truly terrible. Some are worse than others, but it’s basically a scale of rank to rancid.

I’m amazed anyone can justify the coat to be honest. That’s what gets me more than anything - what a ridiculous waste of money.

Moidershewrote · 05/11/2022 21:41

I offered to lend a bit of money to a friend who relies on baccy recently.. he told me it was £27 a pouch now!
I did not give him a penny.

Are you saying there's so much dirt in the air in a hospital that it doesn't make a difference if you smoke near newborns?

Come on, that's below feeble.

Of course they do. You smell if you don't brush your teeth, you smell if you don't wash, and you smell if you regularly inhale nicotine and tar and envelope yourself in smoky clouds of them that cling to everything. It's just a fact. Our friend Lester whatshisface can complain that it's an "insult" but like I said...sorry if the truth offends you. Smoking makes you stink and ruins your health. If you don't like that, you know what to do.

MostTacticalNameChange · 05/11/2022 22:03

I haven't touched my parents since i was 8 years old because the smell of smoke stops me breathing. I'm almost 40 now and they are both still "alive" and smoking with COPD. Smoking is absolutely disgusting. It has robbed me of proper parents and grandparents for my kids. And encountering the litter and damage done from the litter sickens me. I had a horse die from eating discarded filters.

Smoking stinks. The litter, the smell and the environmental cost is so repulsive. Could not give two shits if you compare it to strong perfume or traffic fumes. We all know it ain't the same. Smoking has negatively impacted my life physically, mentally, financially, emotionally, environmentally and i have never ever smoked myself.
